  • New iPad Air with M1, ultimate loop station with loopy pro.

Or even the new iPhone SE with the A15 would be a great one too.

New Mac chip incoming... M1 Ultra!

  • M1 ultra. What a beast.

    -Mac Studio!

-(Notice they didn't get rid of the 1/8" audio jack? Bring that back to the iPad Pro, Tim!)

-The Mac Studio can play 18 (yes, eighteen) simultaneous 8K video streams! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat!?!

-New Studio Display. It's a 5K display... which is kind of strange, since you'd think they'd also want to sell an 8K display?

-Taking orders today, delivering on March 18th.

-Mac Pro coming later, but this little Mac Studio trounces the performance of the Mac Pro already.

16-core Neural engine (ChowDSP might have code to use this)

Do his plugins use neural networks live or were they used to "train" the DSP engine?

Separately: did the new Air lose the audio jack?

At this moment their store is still offline, so that's to be determined.

UPDATE: OK, the store is now online, but every shot they show conspicuously does not show the bottom of the iPad Air, so there's no way to tell if it's there or not.

I suppose the big question is how much RAM is going into the new Air,s and will it make a lot of difference. Shame they didn’t go to 512 GB storage. More reasonable price than the Pros . If I spent up to 2K on a iPad Pro last week I’d be kind of pissed now. Interesting to see the bench marks to compare. I should imagine these will sell quite well.

It won’t be there. Don’t get too excited.

I’m usually wrong about my predictions but I’m confident about this one. :-)

The old Air 4 already Lost it. I don’t think apple stuck an AirTag on it so I doubt they will find it again.

    🤣

Yeah I see that the tech specs definitely omit it. I'm not looking to purchase, but this is a pretty strong signal that it won't come back for the Pro models.

I think if it's important, buy the previous model, which they usually have refurbished or unadvertised. Ask for it by name!

Ooh I didn't know that, sorry for misusing "lost" as if it was a new development

  • Can live without the audio jack.

The roadmap for the M1 that was leaked is turning out to be true:

    M1
    Jade C Die (M1 Max)
    Jade C chop (M1 Pro)
    Jade 2C-Die (M1 Ultra)
    Jade 4C-Die (unreleased — 2 x M1 Ultra!)

So the M1 Ultra is the 2C-Die. And is ridiculous. (2x M1 Max).

The last chip remaining in the roadmap is the 4C-Die which will be 2 X M1 Ultras and is the last part of the leaked M1 ‘roadmap’.

If true the Mac Pro is going to be epic.

Not sure what name it will have what comes next in the sequence Pro—Max—Ultra?

Maybe it’ll be called the Ultra Max Pro.

Although they said ‘one last chip in the M1 lineup’ so maybe they’re saving it for the M2?

  • Apple.com confirms 8GB ram on the new iPad Air. Looks like a fantastic upgrade. …well, fantastic unless you want more than 256gb storage

  • New devices, I swear it’s hard to keep up.

  • Gah, I need 512 GB of storage as a minimum. I'll wait for the next Pro, whenever that is.

Good point. He's doing University research on neural networks, circuit modeling and non-linear filters and using his code in his IOS Apps.

See this page on his work:
    https://chowdsp.com

I'd imagine he'd be the type of developer that would consider this hardware feature for making a more flexible and faster modeling app.I'm hoping he stops modeling circuits and turns his skills towards modeling physical systems like horn, string, wind and percussion instruments. If he stays in the world of academia we might keep getting low cost apps since he'll be tasked to publish but he could use his skills in dozens of commercial applications.

  • So, how much more powerful will the new Air be than my 2017 Pro?

I wonder if the new Studio Display will work with non-Thunderbolt iPads?

    Edit: Yes it is!

Studio Display is compatible with the following iPad models running iPadOS 15.4 or later

iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation or later)
    iPad Pro 11-inch
    iPad Air (5th generation)

    https://www.apple.com/studio-display/specs/#footnote-2

  • i wonder if they're gonna underclock the air m1's like they did in the mini6's a15's
wouldn't be shocked if they did

  • I’ll come back next time they release some iPads then, maybe they’ll have caught up with the iPhones – those start at 128GB minimum these days.
