So a punter goes into the Apple store ,cos they’ve heard and read about MAKING a bit of music on an new iPad ,naturally they’re talked into buying up (as they do in an Apple store),fair enough,so out they go,get home then fire-up the New IPad (air, pro) and open GarageBand,no need to go the App Store for another daw yet. Pull out the headphones or pods then search for a hole to plug in.Fuck Me there Ain’t One!, now as a layperson how would i have a fucking clue that be the case? You wouldn’t! So the solution is an iPad 9th gen , if anyone on this forum thinks you can produce (better) music on the up-market versions you’re kidding yourselves. Never read so much about Dongles et.al. and the workarounds ,why do jump though these hoops ? I’m baffled.
To be fair a USB-C to headphone adapter isn’t exactly large or expensive
Apologist says ,not expensive or large . But it is an add on ,who knew? ,so back to the store cos the the person who sold it to you ,forgot to mention it.
I know what you are getting at. I have a 2nd gen iPad Pro 12 inch because it’s one of the last with a headphone jack. I use the jack all the time but times have moved on and Apple are never going to include a headphone jack again. Might as well accept it and move on.
I just checked the highlights, and I'm happy that the iPhone SE is being updated. My 2020 model still functions fine and I'm not planning to update it for a long while (I don't need 5G that badly lol).
I am tempted to save up for the new iPad Air though.
I hope I can snag a refurbished m1 Mac mini cheaply soon, is already so much more powerful than my 2012 mbp. But that 2012 has mixed 4 albums already this year and done a heap of other gigs. So an m1 will be a huge leap that does everything I’d need for a while.
The Mac mini studio does look awesome though. Out of my price range right now, but it does look awesome.
Mac Pro Dubba-Dubba Ultra.
Have fun staying with your old tech, my 3.5mm friends. It’s not coming back for iOS.
Its fine I guess, kind of like being mad when Apple laptops dropped USB2 and upgraded all ports to USB3. Complain and stick with an old MacBook Pro with USB2 as long as you want… but the rest of the world is just going to get over it, buy some new cables and gear, and move on.
For all the benefits of my new iPad Pro, losing the 3.5mm jack cost me:
Except usb3 was backwards compatible with usb2 devices, so those didn’t (and still haven’t) become useless. And since every headphone in the world used the 1/8 and 1/4” connector, including every piece of pro audio equipment, needing a dongle is a pain in the ass. And Bluetooth is a lossy format.
Apple said that the reason for the headphone Jack removal on the phone was for waterproofing, but I don’t see that as a necessary thing on iPad, the chances of accidentally going swimming with your iPad is fairly small…
But it is what it is.
Too bad, Mac mini didn't get upgrade. Maybe later in year, we'll see. Studio is dope but super duper expensive.
The base model of that one, at $2k, is a pet amazing computer. $2k is too much for me right now, but it’s still a great spec. I record and mostly music recorded by live musicians with minimal virtual instruments or samples, and any video work I do is pretty simple, so for me wherever I can get a new Mac the lower end ones will be great for me. I have also moved to using less and less processing in the past few years.
I do realize that other people are in different situations for sure. It’s very rare that I need low latency recording, for instance, because everyone is playing together and I am either using a digital board or my uad setup, so round trip latency doesn’t play into monitoring.
But for video editors, film scoring, things like that, the new macs are going to be beasts.
I’m not really paying attention to any new iPads, my 2018 is still doing everything I need and it’s an auxiliary platform for me. If file management ever becomes more straightforward (ie having Finder or similar on iOS) then that would make me use it more.
But , again, I realize my use case for tech is different than many.
Actually that is not my experience at all. The salespeople don’t make commission and they are not evaluated by sales figures, so why bother. Just saying. In all fairness.
That’s kind of my point… all it takes is a usb-c to 3.5mm dongle or a hub. Same hassle as having to get some new USB2 to usb-c cables or hub when laptops no longer had built-in USB2.
But yeah, bluetooth for now is only a partial solution, for non-critical listening and movie watching.
I’m curious if the M1 Mac Mini gets a price drop on refurb and second-hand markets… do more people want it since the Studio is so pricey? Or more supply available since everyone’s upgrading to MacStudio?
How do you advance at Apple? Are the salespeople in the stores are of a different caste? I assume that the Apple event today “talking up”the latest and greatest wasn’t a sales pitch and wasn’t meant to create revenue. Just asking.
The picture of Cook with the Brain with a White Asshole, pegging -Slick!
I've known people who worked at the Apple Stores and they were outstanding. Those people tend to rise quickly and move up to corporate headquarters or senior positions in the ranks. They notice.
i got a song placed in this event!!!
i produced and co wrote the song at 4:30, the MLB / Apple TV + announcement. Ive been shooting for an apple ad for years now and finally got one. 🙏
@shinyisshiny Wow!
Congrats. You must be on cloud 9!
Nice one.
All this talk about CPU upgrades, how about apple add a segment where Tim Cook keeps loading instances of Model D without crackling. Maybe add that metric to one of their slides?
Cool. Well done!
Nice one!

They won’t do that until Logic is available for iPad 😂
@samu so you going for the new iPad Air 256GB ?
