Another new version is out now:
Version 1.6.1
Great ! Thank you 😊🙏
Thank you for the updates!
Super thanks for the 1.6.1 update, now all my samples loop perfectly when imported to AudioLayer
Confirmed, thanks Harry!
Thank you all for your feedback and support!
Forgot to note one more thing: loading time of big instruments should be considerably faster with this update
You're welcome!
I've not dug in super deep yet but when it comes to setting loop start & end and moving start & end points a 'snap to zero-crossing' could be a handy option? (If it's there and I've somehow missed it I'm sorry...).
This could be very be especially handy when moving the loop start & end in 'zoomed out' mode?
For looping it could auto-check in what 'direction' the zero crossing of the loop start or end is going and 'match' it so the wave playback continues either down or up reducing the probability of clicks.
I'm not a huge fan of 'cross fade looping' so being able to simultaneously see the 'loop overlap' (start and end) would be super handy (Auditor does this with it's 'End to End' function making it super easy to fine-tune the loop).
And finally being able to destructively edit a sample that has already been imported into an instrument could be handy.
No need to add just something to consider if/when AudioLayer gets new 'feature updates'
Cheers! (5-Stars on Swedish AppStore).
@VirSyn Thanks for the update! The SSD playback is much better, however, when using it I’m still not able to get tracks to freeze properly in any host. I’ve tried Cubasis and MTS. In Cubasis I’ve tried realtime and offline bouncing but I get audio cutoffs and crackles.
Cubasis has some freeze/render issues related to the multi-core thing (Settings->Audio>Multi-core Processing) so disabling that one to check might be worth a try? (I have a bunch of apps that do not render/freeze properly with it turned on).
Hi. I’m trying to figure out the sample editing modules for level, pitch, filter… I think I get the concept but I can’t find a good way to edit stuff in an efficient manner.
Say You have 15 velocity zones for a snare on D2… most commonly you’d want to edit the decay or attack for the 15 zones at once. How do you do that?. I’ve tried drag-selecting all the zones as in bulk edit but it doesn’t work. How would you edit them in bulk without having to go one by one?. I’ve looked around in YouTube but I can’t find anything specific. Thanks!
Typically, you would put zones that you want to share settings on the same layer and adjust the settings for the layer if you don’t want to edit at the zone level
Thanks for the answer. Yeah, I figured layers was the way to go. But I’m finding that layers are not working properly in the drumkit exs I’m trying out.
Is anyone else finding problems with multi-layered kits?. In my case the mute/solo don’t work and I get mostly no sound at all.
I tried with a Grestch kit and now with this Pianobook free kit https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/lorenzos-drums-v1/
The samples are there, but it just won’t play. Might be the cause for the layer editing not working properly.
Hi,
Yes, drag-selecting multiple zones to edit at once still doesn't work. Only one of the zones in the selection seems to be edited (when "zone level" option is ticked).
Putting your zones in another layer is not a proper solution because the crossfading feature between zones only works when they are on the same layer.
So to sum up, 2 critical features are still missing in my opinion :
Oh, yes : regarding the new mute/solo option, I found that using only the "mute" buttons is safer. "Solo" doesn't seem to always mute the other layers (no sure and still to be confirmed but this was my first impression...).
If you are encountering problems, providing steps to demonstrate the problem and maybe a screen recording would make it possible for @virsyn to track down and address the problem,
just a quick intervention: i had a look at this drum kit and this kit does a kind of round robin which AudioLayer doesn't seem to like. It's definitely AudioLayers fault... no need for you to mess around.
Now i'm back trying to find a solution...
Thanks for the tip! This helped in Cubasis somewhat. Still getting issues In MTS however.
@VirSyn the latest update seems to have broken AudioLayer in MTS and BM3 for me with crackling. This is on an iPad mini, and 2018 Pro. I’ve tried all buffers, but with no luck. Seems ok in C3 after turning off the things @Samu recommended.
Edit: ‘in BM3 and MTS , no luck. Ive tried a usb 3 SSD and SD, with same results. What’s even stranger is at certain times after a restart, it’ll behave, then sometimes it won’t’. However It never behaved like this in MTS or BM3 with prior versions of AL.
Also, any shot of getting a M1 desktop working (AU) version of AudioLayer? It’d be cool to be able to move projects back and forth with continuity of AudioLayer patches.
Just for clarification: the crackling is only on freezing tracks AND using SSD for storage ?
I'm not 100% sure on this on my side (Don't have external SSD to test with) as the crackling also can also affect AUv3's that play perfectly fine in real-time when using the multi CPU support in Cubasis but fail during freeze/render even when using Real-Time rendering!
(Ie. it 'smells' like a Cubasis issue or it could equally well be an iPadOS i/o issue when pushing the CPU during rendering...).
My suspicion here is that Cubasis is a bit 'too eager' to write the samples to disk without actually waiting for the AUv3's to deliver the bytes that can be written causing the crackles in rendered files.
So for me It's a bit of 'trial'n'error' on which plug-ins behave well in certain situation as one solution does not work for all of them...
Cheers!
It’s actually occurring in both SSD and when stored on the iPad since the latest update, whereas it was only ssd before. It’s especially bad in MTS but my experience is very similar to @Samu in Cubasis also.
Another update hits the ground:
@ipadbeatmaking: hopefully the crackling should be a thing of the past...
FIRST TEST AND IT APPEARS FIXED!!!! 🙏 🥳
Playback has been much better. However freezing is still a little hit and miss
The kit is working now. Will try the others and see 👏🙌🙌
thanks for the update @VirSyn .
the built-in effects are lovely, have you considered adding pitch function to the delay effect ? it would be really cool for sound design.
This will sound annoyed but I'm not. I've learned that any support is a blessing.
What can you do though when you buy something and no one can/will respond. I've had way more help from this post though. Drumdrops support is appalling. I never knew that before as I have heaps of their stuff, but never needed help. I suppose I should just abandon the whole idea of using their products in Audiolayer. Like someone else said, how much is my time worth.
Have you sent @virsyn a copy to diagnose?
I don't know if I can as it's a commercial product.
I believe under a circumstance like this where the recipient is a developer just trying to help you and Drumdrops is not providing support, it is highly unlikely that Drumdrops would care.
Hopefully Harry ( @VirSyn ) will respond. I've posted a few times in thi8s thread but had no response. Maybe I should PM him.
