I like Tone Stack! Less gimmicky than Bias, delivers amazing tones and that's the bottom line.
Love ToneStack and was using it all last night.
@Don: What is it about BIAS you find gimmicky?
Kgmessier…. The preamp tube choice is rather lacking, the three choices given are well known to only effect gain output and little effect on tone. Using gain control is much more effective and provides much more control. !2at7 and 12au7 are generally used in other circuitry such as reverb for that reason. A choice of manufacturer say Mullard vs. Telefunken would provide much more tonal possibility.
Don't get me wrong I like Bias but find a lot of the real-estate there kind of a waste to the point it can be distracting.
I find Tone Stack friendlier because of less clutter that has little to do with sound.
Just my opinions all, and as I say I have come away with useful tones from both.
just got ts....its pretty slick....awesome....I also have bias and haggis....I only use these apps to record into my daw.....lots of tone from all 3
BIAS is pretty much everything it promises to be and yet, somehow, it probably isn't even in the top 2 or 3 of guitar apps I use. ToneStack, Flying Haggis, and Overloud THM (Auria pluging) just end up being so much more convenient, and BIAS can be a little resource hungry. But I have Agile AmpKit too, and none of these apps are "bad" - all of them have their own kind of appeal.
I agree
For anyone hearing occasional pops and clicks in the new version, I think the new output limiting modes were causing them. Since turning them off I haven't been hearing them anymore.
Ok so maybe it isn't the output limiting modes. Has anyone noticed an increase in pops and clicks in the latest version? I can't tell if it is tonestack or Effectrix that is causing the issue but I definitely can't run the same the same combination of apps like I used to before getting some pops and clicks.
Hi, just wanted to introduce myself, just purchased this app in my quest for the ultimate ios tone. I have to say, the flow is nice and having two paths for audio has serious potential. I decided to limit my quest on obtaining the best tone for headphone practicing. I grew up loving the 80s chorus rockman, then moved into the ADA digital world, migrated to the line 6 side and now trying to get things setup where I prefer the Ipad for my mobile work. I would like to have the tone of jamup and bias but with the flow of tone stack. With audiobus, tonestack, stereo designer and Auria, I have been able to achieve some nice sounds, very appealing with headphones. My data flow for audiobus is tonestack as input, stero designer for effect set to wide 1 and output into Auria stereo tracks panned L and R. Adding stereo designer really opened everything up, tone stack sounds great but with stereo designer, it changes everything. I'll put up some samples soon!
So, as someone who only want to use this as an effects rack for my synthesizers, would you guys say ToneStack is the best option?
Given the huge selection that comes with the Motherload bundle—not to mention the ability to split signal paths—I say yes.
New free demo app from Yonac and an IAP sale.

I personally think that it very much depends how you use the effects and how much you actually need amp sims on your synths. IMO amp simulations generally anihilate all the hard work programmers do to make them sound authentic. TS is predominantly a guitar fx therefore a lot of what you pay are actual amps simulators. Another aspect would be how you're using your synths. I find sugar bytes offerings very good because of the rhythmical aspects they have. They may be of a very slightly lower quality (very arguable) but don't tend to kill the natural sound of a synth. If you reall want yonac set of fx why don't you just get magellan and use it in the effect slot?
Having said all that I really like the analogue delay and vibrato that TS offers. Again, that's on a guitar.
Edit: on the other hand I find envelope wah and octaver quite weak.
Also LiveFx is an interesting app. Modulation not great but the Decimator on synth bass is wicked.
Yes.
I'm thinking hard about getting the Motherload IAP. This has quickly become my favorite modelling app.
@Matthew Get it now, while the 40%-off sale is still on!
Oops, helps to read lol. Bought the motherload. Didn't even realize it was on sale.
I got the motherload yesterday evening as well. This app is the first one that gives me the sense of playing around with real fx pedals in a guitar signal chain. Having real character and not just having standard bland fx with a pedal picture, giving a very real experience. Great! And very low latency. I have issues with Jamup (intermittent) and Bias (noticable, more constant) latency, but so far not with TS.
Bought the mother load the other day at the sale price. Loving it. The Pepper and Vineger OD with the '59 amp and that Zone Verb make for some real classic tones with humbuckers or single coils. Most of my other guitar app setups (Bias, AmpKit, JamUp, AmpliTube) don't always transfer from one guitar to another. Tone Stack is very versatile and pretty easy to dial in.
Giving away a few copies at the link below, please have a look if you don't already own this great app.

Just picked up MultiTrackStudio as my new DAW, the internal guitar amp isn't all that great (nor does it need to be), so I fired up ToneStack again. Man, did it sound great. Baby on the way and busy with work, but I wish I had an extra hour a day just to check out all that the app has to offer (and record some music).
I also swear it's better optimized than it was when it first came out. CPU usage seemed consistently in the 20% range where it was 30-45% before on same settings. Maybe, maybe not, but there's been a long list of improvements in the two updates since. Wasn't even mad to see the Motherload go on sale for $15 off not too long after launch - so long as you paid for quality, the cost shouldn't be a concern anymore once it's spent!
I can't honestly say if this is "better" than JamUp, and I hope I'm not asked to. BIAS still probably has some of the best sounds on iPad, but ToneStack is just an awesome complete package.
Can I plug two guitars in? I'll be using the behringer ufo202. I don't know how relevant it is.
@Fozziemusic and @supanorton I totally agree. I have most of the other guitar apps and I can tweak them all day and I just can't get ever the sound quite right. With a real amp I can dial in a tone I like in a minute or two and ToneStack is the first app where that is also the case.
So far I have spent a few hours tweaking EQ and adjusting gain stages, noise gate etc., definitely some usable tones there. Now assuming I know what some of these amps are modeled after I can't say they match the overall tone compared to the originals but still usable tones. Just curious, hypothetically can you use FX from TS and say a nice Mesa amp from BIAS or vise versa? I haven't tried it yet so anyone with any knowledge pipe in!

Yes, I know people have done that, but that would be two pretty resource hungry programs running together. Maybe the newer iDevices could handle it, but just worth pointing out.
BIAS sounds great, but it bothers me that it's basically just raw amps with no effects. And they don't sound as great to me once they move over to JamUp.
@Waterbound and @StormJH1 I use bias through Tonestack on occasion, I can even do this on an ipad2 (my secondary unit). I was running into latency issues, bumped down the buffer and put audio share into the output slot with Tonestack as an IAA effect. Usable latency that way. But you will always have an amp In front of pedals. I would like to see Yonac improve their amps to a level of positive grid's bias or PG to improve jam up pro's routing. Or the best option for the consumer yet, load Bias amps directly into Tonestack (dreaming, I know). Once these devices are powerful enough, I look foreword to a Guitar Rig app (hopefully not crippled like imaschine, still dreaming). But even then I will probably still find myself reaching for Tonestack for its versatility. Great app.
Could you explain your workflow on the IPad, Flo26? Do you use speaker IRs for live playing?
Does someone have a tip or magic incantation for dealing with L/R split signal paths? I keep deleting the split entirely when I mean to add an item to one of the paths.
@flo26 your English is fine, good even. And infinitely better than my French so thank you. It's your spacing that will drive me mad!
Cool, thanks Flo! I have rooms too and will try out your suggestion. I have impulses on my pc as well, so that's not a problem.
