In the pic above ^^^ I set the mix to be 0. Stereo input is present in the output. I also did a test with two different delays on A and B and heard each one + the original stereo signal when I added into the mix.
Yes the stereo is very weird. It works perfectly sperated when there's nothing in there at all but with amps and FX anywhere it seems to break the separation. I don't get it. Maybe it's a 1.0 bug that will get fixed in the next update?
I've only had a very short time to play with it, but the Whammy pedal is infinitely better than the one in Jamup. Quite like the 59 Fender amp as well. There's a lot of stuff in there, it's going to take a while to check it all out.
Not all FX @Munibeast - see above discussion ^^^
@MusicInclusive Thanks for that. Tried this with Stereo Designer and EchoPad. Makes a big difference in the sound. Back to experimenting...
@richardyot, Are you talking about the "Wanger" IAP?
@gkillmaster said:
Yes. The one in Jamup sounds like a fart, this one can actually sound like a bass, especially when played through a bass amp.
@ArcaneScreams YW. It's very reminiscent of POD Farm from Line 6 on the desktop. I feel at home with this app therefore. I like the sound so far. Used it on Animoog and it transformed it very nicely! It probably doesn't have the richness of BIAS for amp modeling, nor subtlety of Flying Haggis for acoustic, nor does it have Stompbox's truly separate stereo, but it's a keeper for me.
I noted the comments above about attenuation / filtering. I've noticed attenuation - maybe alterable by the settings. OTOH - if one is going to boost the signal in the chain with various items that's probably not a bad place to start! :-) I'll look at the possible filtering issues raised a bit later as time permits. For me - I can see myself using this quite apart from guitar (which I'll use it for anyway), in the FX slot of AB.
Oh - and having everything MIDI controllable is nice. Esp. the pedals. I want to try that out with various MIDI pedal sources I have too. :-)
Anybody else have problems with the tuner recognizing the low E string? The open E and F on the low E string don't seem to register with the tuner for me.
I just checked out the "What's Included" page on their site. Are all those items in the $5 version, or is that just a list of what you COULD purchase using IAPs?
I downloaded the app first thing this morning, but with a combination of my inlaws being in town for a week and work being a little insane, it's doubtful I'll get a chance to plug a guitar in this thing much, if at all. Which is a bummer, since I really want to know how it sounds and bore you all with 1,000 word essays from a very amateur guitarist's perspective
Just from playing around with the app itself, though (and without obviously hearing how anything sounds yet), here are some initial impressions:
The interface is very similar to JamUp XT, IMO, especially the effects "flow". This is good and bad - I found it a little difficult to get it to respond to button presses and double-taps at times.
The total collection of apps is quite impressive. However, I did feel that the initial selection you get in the base app (for the $4.99 intro price) was a little slim. It's missing a few classics like the AC30 and some Marshalls that I believe were in the base download of JamUp. But certainly enough information to "audition" the app.
The preset mgmt system in this might be the best one so far. Not only is familiar from other Yonac apps, but it's sortable and accessible given the complex arrangements you may need for different effects setups.
The pricing structure, again, is not "unfair", but it isn't cheap either. I will need to take a few days to really evaluate if I plan on owning the majority of the content. If so, the complete package for $50 ($55 total investment) probably is the most cost-efficient way to do that. The bundles are $10 each, and effects are usually $2-$4. Amps are all $3.99, with the exception of what looks like a Vox 4-watt, which is $1.99. I count 7 bundles (plus the $5 8-track recorder, which I won't buy), so the total bundle probably saves around 15-30% off the full price.
Surely (hopefully) the stereo signal path wasn't intended to behave like this. What do you guys think? Is that a bug they will fix or not?
Ok, so I read thru all the pedal descriptions, and added in only ones that said stereo. Those I choose that did not say stereo in the description seemed to break the chain. If nothing else, I highly recommend purchasing the Graphic EQ, and adding one in before the splitter, one for each stereo channel panned hard L/R directly after the splitter, and one right after the A/B mix. Makes a Huge difference.

Yes, those are included in the $5 version.
"Out-of-the-box, ToneStack comes with 6 amps, 6 cabs and 20 effects. Expand to a total of 24 amps and cabs and 70 effects available for purchase in the ToneStack store."

Now I need to find out how many of these effects are duplicates of Magellan...

I don't think it is a bug. If you replicated this with hardware as soon as you sent stereo signal into one mono stompbox or amp you'll end up with a mono signal. If this is what you're refering to.
@ArcaneScreams - did you make a list of which are stereo capable? That would be highly useful! :-)

+1 to me this is exactly how things work in the "real" world of guitars and effects so I had no prior expectation it would be otherwise. I don't know of any real stereo distortion pedals and to run a stereo guitar setup involves running two amps, one for each side. Good to know that the stereo effects stay stereo, just have to be careful setting up the pathway.
I'm not able to try TS at the moment, on vacation without a guitar.
@StormJH1 Bristol City looks like a Vox. It might not be the AC 30, but I'm not able to check at the moment.
@MusicInclusive I did not make a list. This is what I have in the chain at the moment.
Graphic EQStereo Chorus
Flanger 2X
Phased 'N Confused
Electron Dominatrix
Scanner
StudioDelay
@telecharge Thanks! That's quite a deal for $5! I don't play guitar through my iPad but i've got plenty of synth apps i could mangle with that many FX.
Anyone else having an issue with the signal bypassing ToneStack entirely when loaded as an IAA effect in Audioshare? The source audio plays fine, but no wet signal whatsoever.
Edit: That's on an iPhone 5c (haven't tried an iPad yet). ToneStack working fine in the effects slot of Audiobus on the same phone.
I am seeing gain reduction and some scratchiness when playing back a (guitar) recording that I've made into the inStudio recorder. Recording via AB into Cubasis and playing back does not seem to exhibit this. The level sounds fine while live monitoring during recording, but the playback seems about 10-20dB below the monitoring level. Not true in Cubasis. Can anyone confirm? Are there settings I've missed maybe?
Okay, I think I need to clarify what exactly it is I thought I could do:
My double neck Bass/guitar goes into the apogee one bass left guitar right. Then in TS I'd like to keep left and right separate and route them through the amps and FX (bass through bass amp and bass FX, guitar through guitar amp and guitar FX) and at the end of all that pan both channels however I wish. Also use the AB switch to toggle between bass/guitar. I thought and hoped this to be possible.
Hmm. Yeah. Even though TS can be selected in multiple channels in the AB output slot, all the audio is mixed going in. Unless we're missing something.

You are right, and I did notice that. However, I believe it is supposed to be an AC15. The paired cabinet is a 1x12" speaker and the description sounds like it could be either an AC15 or an AC30. How much any of this actually mean for the end result of a digitally modeled guitar amp in an iPhone app, who knows. This is also coming from someone who gets "AC30-ish" tones out of a 1x8" solid state Vox Pathfinder 15R
The "British Boost" is clearly the one they intend to be an AC30 (the description even name drops "the Joshua Tree", and is an IAP. Ironically, of all the different apps that purports to do an AC30 sound, my favorite is Flying Haggis (whatever the 4th cabinet setting is called), and it doesn't really advertise it copying any particular amps at all. Everybody who has ever described a Vox AC30 uses the adjective "chime" to do so, and yet I hear radically different iterations of that tone from app to app.
It's interesting to me reading the reactions to the app and almost all of the focus is on the effects, and not the amps/cabs. I think a good portion of that may come from the fact that synth players are using it as a Trojan Horse source of effects (which is totally cool).
But to me as a guitar player, the effects are great and all, but something like Flying Haggis proves that the underlying quality of tone determines whether or not you'll use the app. Flying Haggis lacks a lot of bells and whistles, but the basic tone is great. Other apps like AmpliTube are well put-together but I don't like the clean guitar sounds out of them (my opinion, others may certainly disagree).
Got it. Will check out later today.
Switching the core audio mode from multi route to standard seems to make IAA work with tonestack.
@CalCutta said:
Update on this: This routing works fine on my iPad Air (had a chance to tinker for a moment at lunch, love it!). I'm gonna t-shoot a bit further on the iPhone later tonight, after work
Spent an hour with it this evening, first impression is that it sounds great.
I did the motherload. Looking forward to checking it all out in the next couple of days.
