I know comparing it to Mac/ PC software it's still a bargain, but I have all the others so it comes down to do I really need it? Probably not, will I buy it anyway? We'll see.
I know the "hardware vs. software" comparison is old, but I still look at it this way.
List price today for the Boss DS-1 distortion pedal $49.99
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/boss-ds-1-distortion-pedal.
Now add 17 more distortion pedals on top of that. Plus, amps, other effects, 8-track recorder...
Another point is you can resell a Mac app if you don't want it anymore. On iOS you can't do that and you have to worry more if it will be updated regularly by the dev (and run on newer devices coming with iOS 8 installed). So the risk on the buyer's side is bigger. I know Yonac has made really great apps but his guitar to MIDI app was very disappointing. It didn't get much of an improvement at all and seems to be pretty much abandoned now. Anyways, just saying there are good reasons why apps are cheaper on iOS.
Now back to ToneStack. I really like what I've seen so far. The only thing I'm missing is more bass amp models and FX. I'm still pretty sure I'll buy the complete package, though. Bring it on!
Just tweeted!:
ToneStack's special intro price will be $4.99. Tonight! Midnight!
4.99? !!
Let's face it, truth is we will all be $4.99 poorer at 12:01 AM
This is the same discussion about pricing that keeps coming up. But, there are two sides to that coin...price relative to other stuff, and price relative to one's budget...
Of course even at 50 bucks for the whole thing is still very cheap when compared to a mac/pc program, or even some plugins, not to mention real amps and effects hardware. No doubt about that, I'm fully aware of that, and I'm not complaining...
but my budget IS rather limited at the moment, unfortunately....
But, having said all that, at 5 bucks for the base app...I won't even wait for the reviews and videos... ;-)
5 bucks. Must. Get. Even for just effects its worth every cent. ...watching the clock. So 12et - 11pm my time I think.(hope) Might be a late night...
Sweet intro price! That's how I like it! I still wonder what all the IAPs will add to that. We'll know in less than 3 hours.

That is both my impression and expectation - $4.99 intro price for the base app, which will probably be $9.99 to $19.99 at full price (consistent with Magellan and Organ). Like Doug was saying, IAP's will be necessary to unlock the full suite of 24 amps/cabs and all the effects, and that will all total up to $49.99 or so at full price.
But I am glad to see that they are offering a basic version to allow you to determine if the overall program and tone is something that works for you. I pretty gladly would have paid for all the content in JamUp and AmpKit, but there are a few bundles that I never got because they just weren't things I really was going to use.
Goddamn you all... I need to stay up till midnight to buy this... And then later to play with it. Curses on you all...
4.99 seems like a great deal and add as needed. I probably will skip all of the amps as I'm a bassist so I'm covered there, and for the little bit of guitar i play on demos I'm also well covered. But the studio effects. (Especially the plate sim) are of much interest.
Maybe we could schedule an eleven o'clock meeting of our own AA? Coffee, donuts, and fond war stories about old tube amps lugged up barroom stairs etc etc.
Ha! Borrowed Peavey mkIV bass amp ( with cabinet containing 1 18, 1 10, and tweeter, so I could plug into a DI...) lugged up 3 flights for my 1st club gig in 1990...16 yrs old, studio one in Newark. If you are a sopranos fan, you saw it as Adriana's Lollipop Club...
I just saw that the plate sim has both pre filters and post filters, very good for plate verb. Guess I'm spending a little bit.
Are there any non-guitarists here who will be buying this? I've not tried any of the guitar amp/fx apps with virtual instruments. Anyone here have any experience with that?
Great to use as sends or inserts in auria.
@telecharge
I am a guitarist, but also a thereminist, bassist, mandolinist, ukeist, dulcimerist, lap steelist... I own over 50 instruments and almost every iPhone/Mac virtual instrument. while many analog purists piss on iOS... I love it. And I purposely look for new effects apps to plug all my instruments into.
I am paid on the side to create synth patches and loops. And I use these effects loops to create new and odd material
Was just running 'guitar' amps onto an imini patch (of all things) and made some great sounds. I do worry/think that those of us who haven't actually lugged Peavey's up to Tony Soprano's place (or equivalent) might not get the subtlety of one plate reverb over another, but I've found lots of use for Haggis/Ampkit and others. Glorious noise.
I did get mugged in Trenton once, but I guess that's a pretty large subset.
Can't buy it yet but here it is...

Haha! Great post all around.
You should see my bass rig now, definitely easier to carry up the steps! For half of my gigs now I don't even bring an amp. And I went to Trenton state, never did get mugged in Trenton thankfully.
I only see one IAP called "Tommy" for a measly $1.99. If that's everything I'll have money left over for lunch tomorrow. Recognition to @JMSexton for the super early linkage!
I'd also like to point out that I have never explored Magellan too deeply and just realized that quite a few of these effects are there. Fool with them to whet your appetite for the next 30 minutes. The compressor is pretty easy to make "not subtle."
Thanks for the input, gents. I'll give this one a go.
...While we've got a few minutes to go, I guess we should all tune our Guitars. (Sorry!)
The link came up on my iphone. I wonder if it will be a universal app???
Yes, it is universal.
It's in the Aus store now
Can't buy it yet though. At least not here. But it does show up.
You're right @ChrisG, it's still unavailable
Unavailable...did they yank it? I was really looking forward to this tonight.
EDIT: not showing up anymore, either.
