  • @Sinapsya: Interesting! The good thing as "new" customer is that i can start with a full blown Logic for an price which is below some updates of other DAW's. I think 180€ is a very good price for such a DAW.

@Cinebient I want to tell you my Logic History: I began to play in 1994 with Cubase 2.0 on an Atari ST, after that I buy a Pentium 2 with Cubase New with Audio and an Audio Interface with 8 in/out where inside they take me Emagic Logic Audio 3.5 for free.....After try it is an instant love. When I buy my first Mac (Powerbook G3) I buy Emagic Logic Audio Platinum 5.0 for 1000 bucks!! When osX arrive update to Logic 6.0 for 350 bucks!!

And now after Logic go to Apple I can't update to Logic X but I need to buy it again :-(

    This is my Logic History...

Well,i'm also a longtime cubase/Logic user but whenever i hear the "but now i can't update and need to buy again" i'm thinking: "wait,is the price of a complete Logic these days not similar to what other companies (or emagic in the past) charge for just an upgrade?"

There's really a lot someone can complain about apple but the prices of their software doesn't belong to this imo.Just sayin...

  • @Crabman yeah Man....but if a new user can buy a Full Version for 180 bucks, I that I had spend plus then 1300 bucks on previews version must have for free!

Is not right that I must pay like a new user :-(

  • You see it from the wrong perspective imo.Why do you care about new users? Why should the developing costs now be free for you just because they dramatically lowered the price of the full software?

In other words, you wouldn't complain if the software still cost 400,- and just an upgrade 180,-?

    Don't be so ego ;-)

  • @Crabman When I buy it cost 1000.... you know?

  • edited July 2014

    Man, that was years ago.
Logic X costs what others take for an update.
    No reason to complain ;)
Just imagine you are buying the update to logic X ^^

@lala If you had spend 1350 bucks you will think the same??

  • @lala ok...so buy it anyway, I'm an old user :(

  • You guys aren't being fair. No doubt, you're totally 100% absolutely right but that doesn't mean it doesn't burn a bit for @sinapsya!

  • It's the nature of technology, we all benefit from the investment in development which makes the cost of newer, more powerful technologies even less. If nobody was willing to invest in the technology, it wouldn't be developed nor would the less expensive, better product be available either.

Nothing is free. If people expect endless updates for free, then there won't be much if any new developments. It's not unreasonable to be compensated for how they spend their time developing new hardware and software.

I'm just grateful there's so many wonderful programs and hardware to choose from at affordable prices so that more and more people can have access to these musical tools.

It's okay to wish that you'd been able to get rewarded for supporting the software when it wasn't so affordable, but at the same time it's a fantasy to compare old technology with new technology that didn't even exist then. When you buy a product, you decide to buy it based upon what you knew at the time along with the options you had at the time. Buying a product isn't synonymous with investing in the company that creates it and benefiting from their successes.

  • Agreed.

  • Yes @Paulinko but a lot of the new technology is an old technology adapted to the new platform, with multitouch etc. Otherwise I totally agree. This is even more true for IOS where generally prices are on the low side. I would speculate though that the price of the PC software was adjusted considering the amount of piracy is going on.

  • I can understand booth sides.... whatever.... i'm going to buy Logic Pro X today too. Oh damn, my change from iOS to Mac will be an expensive hobby :O but i must say that compared to what i get in terms of options, support and long time use etc. i think that desktop software is not overpriced. IOS apps a cheap but i need a ton of them to create the same things like in one or two plug ins. IOS is still super great for synths but i really find it hard to play with a DAW on it now.
Now i must find a way to get my packages per post without my Mrs. get notice it..... She rolls with eyes when i bought my MacBook Pro, then Omnisphere, a day later the super drive etc. Maybe i should change the delivery adress ;)

Too topic: I think i will try this little beast on iOS and when i like it i have to save for Tera 3 :)

  • While the topic is on Logic, remember that you can use the same iTunes credit on Mac store also! That means , you can use those 15-20% off cards to buy logic too effectively getting a sweeeet discount !!

  • @thepinkelefant: You're right. That let me buy Logic Pro X for 144€ ;)

  • Just to be clear, I totally agree with you @paulinko. I've just felt the burn @sinapsya seemed to be feeling, most recently with an ipad 3 purchase. :) I don't begrudge apple for technological progress or anyone who got a much nicer iPad 4 a few months later but yeah, it burned a bit.

It is totally emotional and irrational but there is something about 'upgrade' pricing that it does indeed serve the purpose of making earlier adopters feel better about the whole thing - even if the universal base price of new version is similar to what an upgrade would have cost.

Early adopters also get the never stated but somewhat obvious benefit of actually using the software between then and now.

  • I bought a secondhand iPad 2 just two weeks before the iPad 3 came out...

I still feel like I dodged a bullet...

  • @syrupcore it can definitely be tricky figuring out when to jump in or out of tech driven purchases. It's very easy to have regrets about decisions you've made in this regard. I think the smart tech companies do try to accommodate early adopters with upgrades and discounts to reduce the impact of such regrets or feeling like they've been burned.

I owned an iPad 3 and traded it in for an iPad mini retina and am glad I did although I didn't have any significant issues with the iPad 3.

  • I ate that bullet. I bought a 64gig iPad a week before they came out with the 128s.

  • (HYPE) I think this is really close..!!

  • Aw boo- was hoping new comments on the thread meant it had been released....

  • Where. Is. It. ?

  • Any idea about the price?

  • FB page says anytime soon and there will be a launch offer price - don't know how much.

  • Actually, all of there apps are reasonably priced (like many round here I own 'em all).
