Really enjoying the heck out of this app right now.

    +1k

  • It’s definitely limited but I have actually been getting a lot of ideas out with it. Another feature I’d like to see is slicing like with Simpler so I can just chop up a loop quickly to a drum rack. And I’d still like to be able to do a bit more without having to go to ableton but i know they’re probably not going to do that lol. The ableton cloud works fine for me though so it hasn’t been a hassle to get it to my computer

    Ableton Note into Koala.

    Excellent and timely information.

  • …,,,

I realize that they want me to use it with Ableton Live, but I work in a 100% iPad environment and would love to be able to make this work with other apps, like Loopy Pro, in a more smooth collaboration.

I think it is not so much “they want you to use Live” as “Note is an extension of Live for iOS” users.

If others find it useful, they are probably happy to pick up some users -- but they probably don't make a profit on the app. I wouldn't expect them to invest money in features at this point that don't primarily serve the people the app is aimed at.

  • I think it’s great so far and have already created a couple of tracks and finished them off on desktop.

I’d agree it’s aimed at Ableton users that also have an iPhone rather than pure iOS musicians.

If Ableton were going with more of a full version on iOS, I expect it would be at least in the Cubasis price bracket.

I think you’re right. I’ll just enjoy it for what it is 😊

Just found out that it’s actually quite easy to import and trim in Loopy. Just dial in the right BPM in the import file pop-up screen in Loopy and it’s dead easy to snap the sample into a tight loop.
Not the smoothest work flow, but not too bad either. I really like the ease and fun in Ableton Note, and if I can create some interesting sounds and loops to import into my main creative hub, Loopy Pro, then that’s great!

Decided to give this a go. Experience is pretty slick to go from iOS to Live. Needs more presets, an easier way to add files, and definitely ability to add more fx slots since all the Ableton devices are already there.

  • I feel like the 8 scene limit is likely totally arbitrary. Probably the track limit too, I imagine it could go up to at least twice that amount. But I get it. And it’s still fun. The only other place to get the retroactive looper or whatever experience is Endlesss, which is kind of a weird environment, but perhaps I need to check in on that one as well.

Yes, I feel like I could bump my head on the scene limit pretty easily. I suspect the track limit is so there's no problems importing into AL "Lite" and "Intro"

  • Please everyone, submit your wishes through the app, they will definitely get read.

  • I sent in some requests via the in-app link. I also suggested that I would love to see an iPad version of Live a la CB3 and Zenbeats since I have no interest in tying my music-making to a desktop. Can’t hurt to let them know.

Just did it. The clip editing is actually really good, I must say. Note Probability editing would be perfection.

Definitely more fx slots. Also, just discovered Note Repeat. Damnit, I was wrong lol. 😂

It's definitely a walled garden within a walled garden, but you can harvest your productions at least. Groovebox came closest to this potential, Gadget too.

  • Looks to me like a toe dip into the ios pool. Awesome that they have such a direct pipeline to us customers. They’re gonna get inundated for sure with Ableton Live for iPad requests, no doubt about it . ,

  • Ableton live suite for iPad? Who wouldn’t buy that? Make it free for existing Abelton users.

  • That new Bitwig remote app though (R-Kontrol ).. Whew !

  • One thing I am really liking is the lack of a visible grid. Using nudge to correct timing is enough and keeps things more organic.

Things missing for me, like others, midi input as I find the screen difficult for playing, automation controls are fine, but for note input I struggle, as I do with all apps.
Also audio input selection for multi input interfaces for sampling from my different hardware units connected to my 18i20 and behringer ada8200. I don’t want to have to recable each time I want to sample a different unit. I”m assuming here that it is trying to use channels 1+2 as I have the interface connected and it isn’t using the mic

    Looks interesting..

Makes you wonder about a BitWig Note…

But are there any rumours about future export without a tail?

Yeah - "adding a tail" is not good for me either.

Other apps do clean loop exports... not an app for me until they fix that.

If would have asked me this before I would 100% have said that it was an awful idea. But it works remarkably well!

  • That's one of my favorite things about Note, combined with the after the fact capture of your notes. You can just play around and not worry about the tempo or timing, and Note will figure that out for you after the fact once you hear something you want to keep.

    Usually.

There is the random time it dorks it, but that's pretty rare for me at this stage.

  • Spent some time playing around with it tonight. Very cool as it is, and would love to see it develop further.

I think you’re on to something there. If Ableton Live Suite included a free iPad version, I would buy it at full desktop price, just to get the iPad port.

    I like the idea.
It's not that I couldn't live with Gadget on my iPhone though, Ableton export with audio and MIDI works just as expected and the choice of available sounds and loops is huge.
Plus I have fully editable synths, maybe I'm one of the few who still loves to tweak synth sounds.

    +1 +3/4 ;)

  • I wonder if Note could also be developed as a controller for launching clips on the desktop version.

  • Resample audio output by long pressing the microphone icon in sampler or drum rack.....
