I doubt we’ll ever see AU hosting in Note, you wouldn’t be able to open the sets on Move or in Live which is one of the main purposes of it.

Not to mention that implementing hosting plugins is a nightmare as the whole AUv3 thing is a complex bug-ridden minefield on the hosting side.

This is my thinking as well, TBH. Cross-platform compatibility is really hit-and-miss with Logic Pro, mainly because of incompatible versions of 3rd party plugins between iPad and Mac. I'd rather see Note focus on bringing over more Live instruments.

  • The 4-track Move/8-track Note setup looks like it could be fun to exploit.

Resample a couple of tracks you’re done with into a couple of drum pads, then “swap out” the original tracks for 2 new ones using Note. Those tracks are intact for further editing in the future. Meanwhile, you get two fresh tracks to play with.

  • Max for live instead of auv3 would be cool, apple would probably have an embolism though 😅

    No midi import…

I'm on the 1.3 beta and that will be a significant update. I think the benefits of 1.2.1 mainly accrue to folks with poly aftertouch controllers.

Thanks. Do you know if the v1.3 will also be available for Ableton Move and bring significant changes?

I ask because it looks like they are synchronising the versions of Note and Move

I think the most significant changes in 1.3 will be the MIDI editor improvements, which won’t apply to Move. But who knows, there might be features I’m overlooking that will warrant a Move update.

Seems there have been many updates to Note… still no midi import, or is it me?

No not just you, it also needs midi export from the app

I guess, if one has Live (on desktop), you can send to Live and do an Export… But getting Midi ‘IN’ can open up Note, more…

  • I just want to export in app. I don’t want to have to turn on the Mac and load ableton just to grab some midi. The Note sounds were ok when they first came out but there are so many great AUv3s out there. Note is great for sketching I just want to grab the midi and use better sounds and more recording scope in an iPad DAW or Groovebox like GR2.

I think your point about Live is spot on. I’m of the belief that Ableton is looking at a bigger picture than we are. They ultimately want people utilizing the full ecosystem. The smaller aspects of the ecosystem (Move and Note) are gateway products meant to led a user to the advanced workflow in Live.

  • Ableton has been pretty clear that Note is primarily intended as a convenient way for Live users to start projects on the run that will be completed in Live.

Yes that’s absolutely the case. I know most of us on this forum would like it to be more of a full-featured iOS DAW, but I think really wanting or expecting that will ultimately lead to disappointment. It’s just like the Move in that respect. You shouldn’t bother unless you’re okay with a workflow that finishes in Live.

OTOH I bet someone could write an iOS app that extracts MIDI from Note project files.

Actually, it’s the lack of midi import in note that I am still on Live 11.. It will be nice to bring in Lumbeat iBassist/Drums clips directly from Note to Live 12 (automation etc.)..

Like others said.. I think it is a gateway to Ableton Live… But Let’s see where GR2 is going.. It’s may be why we are having so many Note updates.. GR2 ALS export?

Maybe the new IAs are up to the task?

  • We might be into something lol

  • Can some test it? It seem to work:

    Cool, thanks for sharing.

although I haven’t gotten it to work, yet. I tried importing to Drambo (no reaction) Sand (crashed) and LK (Import dialogue, but empty clip).

For anybody, who wants to try, an ablproject file, like note puts in it’s app folder is not what you need, you need to export/share from note and use that ablbundle file.

Edit: I have the note beta installed, so could have to do with that, maybe?

My example project comes from the beta too, but only has two tracks with one clip of midi. I could read the midi on atom

    Nvm

  • You can still use AUM to route midi to Note’s input. It’s hacky, but works.

  • Anyone here using Move?

Yup. Combined with the iPad it’s so good, but still needs better pad layouts.

Yes, it has a nice, distraction-free workflow
