Audulus 4 released
Found this one here really exciting. After years of beta the app is going to be released in a few hours. Freemium. $20 (22€) for unlocking full (being able to edit and save and stuff).
Truly universal with one purchase for Mac OS and iOS/PadOS versions

Cool. I hope it comes with plenty of great patches to get you up and running. Modular and me are like oil and vinegar…i need the mustard to bind it all 🤪
Holy crapola, that’s awesome, so you could still use as an Au, you just can’t save any patches/presets inside the app? Correct?
The touch interfaces are awesome!
Looks superb! They had me at "reverb modules". 🤣
Great for modular people always found it a bit heavy going myself.
This looks amazing and with LUA too… interested to see updates from v3. Reminds me a bit of bitwig grid.
The latest public beta is still up (mentioned in their Twitter timeline) if anyone wants to give it a try
So $20 give access to a macOS and iPadOS version with no additional purchases necessary for the full app?
Appears so, Universal!
Interesting. I gave up on it when v3 development stalled and the v4 beta was getting into its multi-year run, but if it’s $20 to get it on both platforms I’d go back to it.
Twitter feed states iOS14/15 but Testflight page states 16.1 required.
I think the requirements changed in ghdd we past week or two because of an iOS 15 bug gif which Taylor hasn’t found a workaround.
If you are hoping for iOS 15 compatibility it might be worth contacting the developer.
So it's something like a software Nord Modular 3?
More like MAX/Msp
Bit more intimidating, then.
I'm a hardware modular user that struggles with miRack, but I often wonder if that is due to the limitations of the design (hardware simulacrum) being a poor fit for the complexity available.
Something like this that doesn't trap itself into the hardware design paradigm might work better for me. I'd never touch the deeper programming layers, though.
I feel the same way regarding miRack struggles. I do love mucking about in Drambo though, and Audulus 4 looks right up my alley for some modular fun. Hopefully I won't have to update to iOS 16 though, lol.
Agreed. If you need something with the fun factor of a Nord Modular but with more advanced modules like for physical modelling, wavetable synthesis, sampling features etc. then Drambo would be the best bet atm for sure.
In the past (i.e. V3), Audulus mostly required fairly recent iOS versions which means less work for the developer.
The user forum is full of great and some outstanding patches. Without the editing IAP though, I expect some of them to be of limited use if you can't add or change i/o connectivity.
Same here, luckily we've been blessed with Drambo and miRack in the meantime, both running as AUv3 and both excellent modular synthesis environments.
Would get it for sure once I get a new iPad to run iOS 16.1 on 😅
goddam it's a christmas miracle!
Does all that stuff above mean that you can build a synth and then put a custom faceplate on it?
It is! I thought this was going to be a never ending beta!
I have been exploring if MiRack is something for me, I know it has tons of patches. In what way does Audulus differ?
Audulus could be considered somewhat similar, but also has more depth - you can build from much smaller units, and create modules from scratch.
MiRack has the advantage of having more pre-built modules.
Mirack is more of a direct euro rack emulation, whereas this is more like pure data or Max, that is a graphical modular way to create your own synths ( or samplers or effects or sequencers etc)
(I think)
I would say there isn’t much of a comparison. MiRack is an app for loading pre-built modules. It includes a large library of modules.
Audulus is an app for creating/building modules and effects. Some pre-built modules exist but nothing on the order of what exists for miRack.
It is aimed at people that want to build their own modules. Over time , a large collection of cool stuff will exist as the community grows.
Right, I get it. Well, for me euro rack is already pretty complex hardcore synthesis to start with, so even going as far as building my own modules from scratch is not what I aspire.
Audulus is one of the most powerful tools that we have on iPad regarding audio and music.
