They finally got me. That very low price cannot be denied. Bought... and I like what I'm hearing so far. A far more positive experience than the Synthmaster synths.

Yes a steal at this price!..very complex indeed. Just using one wave table and modulating it with the lfo comes up with very interesting harmonic content.

Exactly. I’ve been on the beta for well over a year and still feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible sometimes. It’s easily one of my top 3 iOS synths and maybe the most powerful one we’ve got. Brilliant work from the dev.

    Better than Tera Pro?

For me, yes. I like Tera Pro a lot but it’s not in my favorite. I think BS has a better UI as well. Both are very formidable though.

Just to react quickly : I tried the beta of Buttersynth and although the sound was good, my reaction was « okay, but not as “rich” as Tera Pro ». To be honest, I would need to spend much more time with ButterSynth trying to create sounds I like. So this is just based on a quick first impression. Buttersynth has features Tera Pro don’t (sample player, granularizer) but Tera in return has 8x unison and something I love : the ability to create feedback signal loops. This makes sound evolve, unveiling harmonics, etc.
I will very probably buy Buttersynth and try to create epic sounding presets. Probably it is an amazing synth. But right now, I am still not 100% sure it can beat Tera pro sonic-wise.

I definitely see where you’re coming from. Tera has a handful of presets that make me think “wow this is actually coming from an iPad??” Buttersynth does too, but it really rewards programming more so than Tera (again for me personally). I love both and am glad to have both at the end of the day. Plus Tera Pro has the Brainz module which is one of my favorite synth creations of all time. Just unlimited craziness to get into there. Haven’t bought the wavetable IAP yet. How would you say it compares to BS if you have it? Or SM2 for that matter.

How is iMPC pro 2? I don’t think I need it since I have BM3 and Vatanator Pro but I’ve always thought it looked cool. Anyone tried it?

It sounds pretty good, but it doesn’t have much connectivity, and has had periods of crashing when it’s not updated for iOS updates. I haven’t had in installed for a long time, so can’t speak to its current stability.

Thanks my friend! Think I’ll just stick to what I have. I love Phase84 but their apps can be unreliable at times and sometimes it takes a whiiiile for updates.

  • I mean might try iPhone version 2 for $3.99. I did that with Unique Synth, and it’s still pretty dam good. Plus got a newer iPhone, so many host/daw’s though…

Don’t do it, I’m a big fan of Akai’s but they dropped the ball by using Retronyms to develop their apps. All Retronyms seem to care about is selling sound packs, not improving apps

Agreed. I’m glad Phase84 finally became AU but so many of their apps haven’t been updated in many many years. It’s tempting at that price but that’s only because of the price. Considering I have BM3 and VP I really don’t need it. Gotta stop the GAS from kicking in lol

  • @HotStrange I love impc2. I dig the way it sounds, works, and the workflow. I always get great results with it for whatever reason. It’s just fun to create with. I have every iOS music making app and I end up, a lot of the time making drum tracks and more with it quite often. Maybe it’s just me but I dig it. Not the most stable machine but making music on iOS has always been that way since the beginning. Workarounds and troubleshooting. Part of the reason why I still mess with my iPad regardless of having a room full of outboard. It’s just fun and for that price, man don’t sleep on that. Or do. It’s a good drum machine for sure.

Thanks for the feedback! Does it do anything that BM3 or Vatanator Pro can’t?

I had an MPC One for a while but could never quite get into the workflow of it. But it was very powerful. And I have their little MK3 midi controller which is great, so I’m definitely a fan.

  • @HotStrange Not so much what it can do. More so the way the machine moves and sounds. For 10 bucks it’s a good deal.

Right on. Workflow will always be a personal preference

I have the original impc for iPhone from like 5 years ago. I used it occasionally but it never quite clicked for me. Is 2 a vast improvement? It appears to be… Is the workflow in any way similar to imaschine 2? Also is there midi or audio only? Thanks.
