Does beatsurfing 2 require account registration in order to unlock the AUv3 etc.? i almost impulse bought the IAP. Thanks to some pesky account registration window and the incinvenience associated therewith, I may have narrowly avoided a deadly gas attack.

Edit: ah, no it doesn’t require account. But my gas is already gone. So whew

I don’t wanna fuel your GAS too much but Beatsurfing is a really fun app. That said if you’re not into the idea of making your own touch based instruments (which can be a bit tedious) then I would probably pass on it.

Auto levelling tool according to description.

These are great apps. Especially at that price.

Was just thinking... Do we have other auto levelling tools as AUv3s?

I can’t think of anything that does exactly what that does. Maxima and Barricade kinda but it’s not exactly the same. Just in the general vicinity.

The bass one is really useful as well. Especially if you like to distort the hell out of your bass lol it does a great job and reining it in without affecting the sound.

I think one of the Dotec apps is supposed to do that but I’ve never tried it. I only have their free video player (which is really fun and hosts AUs) but that’s it. Have you tried any of their stuff?

They make the IAP effects within Gadget (never tried those either). They look…unique. A bit cheesy but a good kind of cheesy. I just have other apps that do what those do so I never gave them a shot.

The Amazing Noises Limiter has its normaliser mode which effectively does the same and works very well.

That’s pretty cool I never knew that. I think that’s the only Amazing Noises app I don’t have yet. But Barricade is my go to for limiting so I’m not sure I’d even use it. That’s a useful feature for anyone just getting into it though.

I said what I said because I’ve seen people elsewhere complaining about IAA being deprecated and I’ve never quite understood why, nor do I
get why some companies still support IAA but not AU (Korg being a prime example)

One big benefit for using IAA is a full screen app. Being windowed in AUM is not nearly as good as a full screen, especially on a smaller device. Am I the only one who feels this way?

    Absolutely not.

    +1
For an app like Velocity Keyboard which is (totally?) pointless being used as AUv3, the IAA full screen mode is much more enjoyable. Being forced to use it as AUv3 with windowed and reduced space would be a downgrade.
(To be honest, IAA is not even needed here as MIDI IN is enough).
Let’s take the great FingerFiddle as another good example.
Generally speaking, I find that using beautiful synths in a windowed mode is not doing them justice (although we don’t care, only sound result should matters… 😏)

  • Gustav Scholda aka GSDSP Apps are on sale! Check bundles too.

  • Productivity

IAA should also still work on older devices, as long as the app/host supports it. So if you have or use an older device that can’t be updated to a new version of iOS, IAA apps should still be functional even when it does get deprecated. I think.

  • Vox Guru has several IAPs on sale.

Yea I use the bass one a lot, I should use maze rider more but I always forget about it. The bass one is definitely worth $1, they both are really. Bass Leveler really helps the bass cut through the mix, and controls/levels it at the same time.

Grape Search - Search engine mixed with AI is free usually $2.99 - has a tracker or 2

    Both have some trackers.

What bothers me more than IAA apps are AUV3 apps that automatically install code for an IAA mode that almost no one will ever need. The cluttering of menus with duplicate entries which can’t be removed makes an annoying iOS shortcoming even worse. Why 4pockets, why Bram Bos, why?

  • @HotStrange re:BeatSurfing 2, can i control other synths on the ipad? What connection? Or just the sounds it comes with? If it can, do the buttons you create Only activate notes/sounds, or could i have create a slider button that opens and closes a filter in another synth?

To be honest I haven’t used it to send midi to other iOS synths so I’m not entirely sure. The App Store description says it does indeed send midi out though. It doesn’t say whether or not you can control CC values beyond note on/off though. You could always do the free download and see if that works. There’s also a lot of tutorials in-app. Sorry I can’t help more! I’ve only used it as an instrument/sampler so far.

Agreed. I had my eye on it for a long time and finally bought it for $1 a couple of sales ago. Definitely worth $1 but also worth asking price as well.

I can’t speak for everyone but midi keyboard apps as AU is useful for me because I like to tweak synth parameters as I’m playing for live use. I’ve seen multiple people here say the same as well, so I’m glad it’s AU. Same for other synths too. I like to tweak synths, effects, and sequencers as they run so being able to have multiple windows open at whatever size I need is important for me. I can see your side of it as well though.

If you use AUM, you can make it mostly full screen.

That not good for those of us that like to tweak live. Being able to change synth and effects pastors simultaneously while also tweaking the sequencer is necessary for live performance or recording live performances. If I use IAA it’s usually a “set it and forget it” instance or for sampling into something like Koala to manipulate further.

  • Not to be “that guy” but maybe lets make another thread for the extended IAA vs AU discussion? Haha I just keep checking this thread for more sales but mostly it’s just those posts today 😅

Now to be a hypocrite and throw in my two cents: I think both have their place and uses, but I don’t like bouncing back and forth between apps if my IAA audio etc is going to a different host

    Carry on ☺️

I think a main problem for many of us is that we already own most apps that are going on sale or don’t want those that do.
It’s like the end of an era when you realize you’ve purchased more than you’ll ever need across all categories. So, interesting conversations make visiting while waiting for a buy signal helpful.

  • @ambrosiajam What would be a good idea, and I’m not sure if it’s possible with this forum’s software, but I propose two distinct threads:

One that only lists sales ONLY (zero discussion)
One that freely discusses the sales and apps on sale.

Some forums can have a stickied locked thread that hovers at the top. That would probably be a good strategy for this idea.

And I completely agree with you, until I started giving in more to the discussions. I used to be mildly annoyed and now I look forward to adding comments to the rotating list of apps on sale haha

Kvraudio has this and over there it's just two separate threads

Hmm maybe as just a general app discussion thread but maintaining 2 different threads is a lot to ask of @Poppadocrock

  • It's also hard to enforce unless you're a mod/admin. The juice might not be worth the squeeze.
