Well… I’ll let @Gavinski give his opinion but to me the overlap is minimal, although they have some similarities and mainly work with chord progressions, I think there’s enough difference to get both, especially if chord progressions are one of your things. 4P-P has some cool randomization features, a piano roll, a difference in workflow/approach, and other features that I think make it different enough to justify both. I’m not saying go buy it now, but if you like working with chord progressions, I do, I’d at least give it some consideration, watch some videos, etc… it will most likely go on sale again in next couple months too.

Cheers all! I hope everyone is enjoying the thread this year. First and foremost I want to thank everyone for the continued support and interest in the content I share. I also want to thank those who help contribute to the thread by posting sales and IAP’s they find. It’s the end of the first quarter so I wanted to provide my donation details for those able to help out financially. The links are also in the original post of this thread if you need to find them at any point in the future. If you are able to give something towards my continued efforts with the App Sales & Discussion Thread, I would greatly appreciate it. Times have been a bit tough financially, so any amount you are able to gift would be truly welcomed. The best way to do this is directly to my PayPal.me account (direct link below). You can also donate through Kofi, this allows you to do a one time cup of coffee for $3 or set up a cup of coffee on monthly basis. Either way is fine, but there are less fees applied when donating straight to PayPal. Special thanks to the monthly subscriber. Thank you all for continued support. Cheers to 9 more months of 2023 app sales and freebies!

Just one last little plug before the end of the 1st quarter of 2023. Thanks so much to those who have donated. Cheers!

Sorry for the off-topic post, but does someone know how I get of this list? I want to receive emails when someone posts on other discussions I participate in, but preferably not from this one.

I think you can set notification settings… I can’t remember how specific they are though. If you have the thread starred, or if someone mentions you by name you will typically be notified.

Bought it - I spent last night watching a couple of videos and you're right, minimal overlap. I think it's brilliant. Thank you so much!

Check you haven't activated the star icon on top of this discussion maybe?

    That’s likely what is happening.
Whenever I start getting unsolicited emails I check the thread and sure enough I’ve inadvertently tapped the star at the top right.

I’ve been using Scaler for years via desktop and now on iOS, whereas I’m 24 hours in with Progressions. What I know already is that there is only a small amount of crossover- it depends what you use it for I guess, but definitely worth having both in my opinion. If you have neither, I think Progressions has an easier learning curve, but Scaler is a monster - indispensable for me a songwriter. For an example of how I use 5% of scaler - the modulation tab, please see the second post (screen shot) in this thread I started:

Thanks! I went ahead and got it and I’m having a lot of fun with it so far. I have the lite version is S2 and am planning on getting the full version soon, as even the lite version has proven to be super useful. You’re right about it being a monster. I can definitely see the value of both. One for quick progressions, jams, etc and one for the deep stuff.

I like it quite a bit but it is NOT an easy app to get into. Almost no instant gratification. It is very powerful though. I’ve still only touched probably 1/3 of what it can do.

Thanks, yeah it looks complex and I already have enough of those. I did find my bookmark to the thread here.

Looked at his website. Seems like the best deal is the cross platform bundle, so I may have set the App Sliced alert thinking that would notify me to see if the desktop version was on sale. Sometimes I do that. Can't remember, and unfortunately once an alert is triggered I can't see when I created it to jar my memory.

The main reason I got it is being able to use that complexity with my own samples as a kind of Octatrack level sample sequencer. I just haven’t sat down to truly learn the app yet, but the times I’ve played it, I’ve always came out with something that sounds pretty cool. It’s a bit spendy though

  • When I first started out I totally underestimated the investment of time to learn audio software. It's a hidden cost. Now I shy away from complex apps and towards simple, because my time seems to be more limited than my wallet in this regard and I've stacked up so much of a backlog for learning that I may never catch up. :o
