Yes, iPhone compatibility is planned as a free update in case the iPad version does reasonably well!

Nice! Will keep an eye out. Looks like a great app 👍🏻

  • I got a chance to try the beta of this, and there's some really nice functionality in it for sure. You can definitely over-cook things with this app if you push things hard, so it can do some interesting distortions and what not outside of mastering uses too.

  • The userguide is very clear and gives a good process to master your track. For me, the mastering process has to be done completely separately to the mixing process, so it is not a problem if this is not AU. It is even better should we consider the lack of power (CPU, etc) of an IPad

Thanks again for your valuable input. I hope you noticed most of it was considered and implemented 😊

Thank you, yes, the user guide is of course only an example of how to use the tools in the app, but I feel it's generic enough to be used for many situations and types of music.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I don't think I need it, but I'll definitely buy it to support you @SevenSystems . Who knows? Maybe I will need it afterall, lol. Funny how life works that way sometimes. :)

Would like to read about people's experience with actually using the App.
I have nothing worth to be mastered, so only playing around.

And yes, you can use it without AU! Even if that would be a nice addition, of course.

The graphic about the flow is key:

It would be nice to have this flow somehow visible in the App.

Ah... if this view is not in the app, it should definitely not be shown in the App Store. It's misleading. It would be OK if it was a graphic in the user manual or on the developer's web site, but you cannot show functions that are not in the app.

  • @tja said:
I think, the link to the manual could help...

    App overview:

    https://seven.systems/trinity/en/index/

    Manual:

    https://seven.systems/trinity/en/guide/

Thanks. The links were helpful. I don’t have anything that needs mastering, but the app, manual and price make this a really good learning and practice tool for me. A far better introduction at the moment than a high priced book, and much more immediate as well. Hope to see it on iPhone for even more portable practice.

The flow chart for trinity is indeed very useful and instructive by itself. @SevenSystems when do you anticipate a Mac release? Thanks!

  • @SevenSystems said:
    @White thanks for the post!

First of all, I can see why some of you ( @echoopera @Jumpercollins ) are bothered by the lack of audio connectivity. It would obviously be an objective advantage to have and I'd have loved to include it. However, Trinity uses a rather obscure, generic audio framework which, while good, isn't specific to iOS and thus does not support any of its technologies. Background audio did work when Trinity development was started, but broke somewhere down the line due to a change Apple made in iOS. I hope to get at least that working in a future update.

Why use such a framework then? Because I plan to release the app for Windows and Mac as well, and the framework being so generic makes that easier. As well as I've been using it for ages and Trinity development would've been considerably more work using Apple (AUv3-compatible) frameworks.

    If there's ever a Trinity 2.0, it'll definitely have AUv3 and background audio! 😊

(if I may add: Trinity costs about one-third of similar apps with comparable features, and that is mostly to compensate for the lack of connectivity. Sorry but had to! 😎 (this is the final price, not introductory))

Don't really see why you would need AU or background audio for mastering 😅
    Really.

And you can configure the Limiter down to -2dB, which is great! 🤗
And I just love the bands, the compressors and the EQs - all is working together neatly and easily.
    Dithering is also possible!

Finally a competitor to TB Barricade (I never liked Grand Finale, not even version 2).

I am only missing 32 bit exports, which would be great (maybe added later, @SevenSystems ?)

Thanks! Yes, 32 bit float WAV export is planned for a 1.x update!

When Mastering you need to be able to go back to the source and tweak things there. This is way too compartmentalized and myopic in its approach to mastering for the way i work.

There should be no arbitrary limitations put in place for this type of tool.

Maybe it will change to support the following:
    Auv3 and Background playback…so we’ll see.

They may feel that there are others in the same boat and chose to make it available in a form that suits their needs and decided that the likely return in investment to make it AUv3 was low.

Yes, that's it, at least for now. If there are any reasonable sales, I'll happily look into further development that includes user requests, like the (totally reasonable) request for AUv3 👍 But it's also true that including AUv3 in the first place would've increased development effort by at least a factor of 2. Being a mastering app, I personally also think it's not a HUGE deal -- yes, it's an advantage if you can tweak your mix while your mastering chain is already running. But trust me -- Trinity's multiband dynamics are so forgiving that even a total trainwreck of a mix will sound good (just look at the "White Hole" demo! 😊)

@SevenSystems nice work with the reference track approach. This looks great but I’m going to struggle to move away from my familiar auv3 mastering chain. The advice is to master using a stereo mix, but I like the convenience of doing it in the daw.

I might get it as more of a ‘final check’ tool just because of the referencing bit.

A reference track auv3 is a piece we’re missing on ios. There’s desktop plugins that apparently do this very well - matching volumes so you don’t get fooled by ‘louder = better’. If you could separate this bit out into an auv3, I bet it’d do well.

Yes, both Mac and Windows should be doable and are planned if the iPad version sells more than 3 copies without AUv3 😉

EDIT: sorry misread... Xequence would definitely be a larger project to release on other platforms, but not intrinsically undoable either, so... yes, maybe!

I really don’t get the need to insult someone’s effort.

    Fair enough.

But one question. When did the word “myopic” become a trigger word for an “insult”. It is just another word for narrowed focus and omitting visual noise in the distance/periphery.

Are we unable to critique things from a personal perspective now? Must we accept effort as success or can i not be honest and constructive with my feedback?

Anyhoo. People are getting value out of it which is great. I just don’t work this way and my way of working is valid and if we don’t bring up personal workflows to a dev, then they may never be considered.

I just think lack of auv3 and background playback is a big miss for how “I” work. But to each their own 👊🏼™️

Peace love and joy everyone. 🙏🏼💗

Good points. This place will definitely be more respectable if honest. I think problems start with personal attacks and I think we all know that.

As for mastering, in a traditional sense it’s a separate process as traditionally you’d mix it down to stereo and master that as opposed to doing it ‘live’.

I do see positives in both approaches though ;)

Yes, I totally get how people's workflows differ and I actually used to have my mastering chain "always in" back in the hardware days (most of it at least).

If Trinity ever becomes AUv3, I'd probably want to offer the EQ / Analyzer section as a separate plug-in anyway... I mean, it's nice! 😉😄

  • @SevenSystems wow! First congratulations and thank you for such an intuitive and fantastic sounding app.
I’ve used Fab Filter combos, Toneboosters combos, Final Touch, Grand Finales’ 1 & 2, the CB3 MasterStrip, and combos of various apps in various ways. Trinity gives me the cleanest most crisp sound, with the options to tweak to more punchy & crunchy without things going really off track.
This is important for me because my ears can drift into finished tracks that suck when I critically listen a week later. Thanks for putting the bumpers in the gutters!
Your Manual is nice and clear too, even for musical morons like me. I will be patient on iPhone versions and AUv3 insert-ability because I totally respect what you’re accomplished.
Please consider Trinity to be a hit app (5-star review included) so you can keep making updates to Trinity.

For the bumpers, you can also thank @Tarekith who pointed out the need for them in the first place! ;)

I'm actually thinking of doing a few more demos if (prospective) Trinity users are willing to share their unmastered masterpieces (is that an oxymoron?) and get free mastering in exchange for agreeing to have their tracks featured as demos on the Trinity website.

    What do people think?

Maybe it’s time for me to finally start putting my stuff back out there again…
