Anyone who watches Vampyr will rest in peace (pun intended, but no stakes through the heart) about the need to just... Hmm....Embrace the 'aleatoric', as Svetlovska might say.
Haha! Nice!
Do you have a link to the finished project?
Enjoy!
Will watch over the coming days. Many thanks!
I would like to participate if a slot is available.
thanks for the Vampyr video

I'd like to give my space to someone else. I have a few things coming up which will impede my ability to participate in this fun project. Cheers.
I just finished this track (which will appear on my EP that'll release tomorrow)!

The reason I'm sharing this with you lot in this thread is this was warm up sci-fi score. 😎
This will be a very strange, bittersweet venture. Last year was for me one of the hardest to get through so far, and I just found out today a family member has died. But anyway…
The other thing is, I’ve never even thought writing a score for anything, let alone attempted it. So yeah, any advice is welcome. Or if experience is preferred (understandably!), I’ll bow out, no worries.
And specifically, this kind of collaborative 5-minutes-a-piece style of thing. Must admit, it’s all entirely unfamiliar.
My condolences mate. I'm so sorry to hear it.
I'm relatively new to scoring myself, which is why I "phoned it in" when doing the score for Vampyr lol. But I plan to watch my portion, take down notes of time stamps of various events, etc, and score it all in NS2.
It is a fun venture though.🙂
Couple of transcripts here, first has some notes on the music, only glanced at the second:

What a script, pure imagery. oh to be a filmmaker in the silent era…
Modern techniques of drama, tech and production could bring about the most fantastic renaissance in silent movies… except that I’m sure the direction of travel won’t be that way lol
I think we should stop accepting applications by Monday, so if you are on the fence get your name down!! so far we have 29 contributors not including bench sitters. 8 on the bench.
Someone a while back in the thread (apologies to whoever it was, just now I don’t have time to trawl through the whole thing again) suggested bench sitters might make some tracks that could be used in case of someone having to drop out - I’m up for that.
So sorry to hear about your loss.
I suspect most of us that did Vampyr had no experience of scoring, either (I certainly didn’t), and the 5 minute sections method is probably not how you’d do it if you were doing a film from scratch. However, it’s a simple way of doing it with a large number of collaborators, that actually worked out very well. There was much discussion about how we could do it, and this seemed the simplest, considering we were aiming at a Halloween premiere and some key participants had work commitments.
I was interested in the project from the start, but the thing that tipped me into going for it was a video from someone I follow on Instagram, which was posted during the discussions. The nutshell version was “if someone offers you an opportunity and you’re not sure if you’re ready for it or not, do it!”. Sound advice: it may just open unexpected doors, point in new directions, etc etc.
My own additional advice would be to follow your own instincts on this and go with the flow, don’t overthink, and don’t stress about it.
Just found out that metropolis is still in copyright in the EU. Does anyone with a knowledge of copyright law know what that means for us and above all, @Gavinski? Would it mean he would have to block access from EU countries? And is that even possible!?
I’ve noticed there are plenty of versions of metropolis on YouTube so I don’t think it would be a major issue, but…
And your piece was bloody fantastic!
Was wondering about that.
Given that there are loads of versions of the full length movie versions of Metropolis on YouTube and they don't seem to have been hit with a take down notice I think (hope) we are safe/
Just saw this on Reddit (Second answer)

Perhaps there're so many versions because they keep getting deleted, so everyone is trying to keep it up.
Have no idea of the potential repercussions for this project though. Doubt we'd get in serious trouble, but it might not be able to be hosted on YT etc.
I'd say it's just for the fun of it. Even if it can only be hosted on DropBox.
I mean, I don't mind putting it on my channel, but i won't get much traction
Lol. Well, less traction, less chance of it being taken down?
I’ll bet most takedowns are for music infringements by the big conglomerates. Unless someone using long music sample that trigger “hits” I doubt anyone will flag it. And at its length it would never get thousands of views anyway so not really any “assets” to recapture.
Yeah...That's cool!
The problem there is that having it removed might entail you having to live with a copyright strike. Would be a shame for anyone to have to suffer an ongoing penalty.
What about starting a new channel just to host it? I don't mean you, specifically. If everyone was totally happy with keeping the final product for forum eyes only, it might be quite easy to avoid it getting tracked by any kind of algorithm. Could be totally wrong, of course. I'm ot in any way YT savvy
Yeah, there is maybe a case for putting it on a dedicated channel where there will be no repercussions. I really don't want a copyright strike. You get a few of those, your channel gets deleted. Once you get one that stain is there forever.
Even hosting Vampyr on my channel didn't lead to it getting a lot of views. I think the main thing is to make it for our own enjoyment. It really was a buzz to hear what other people had created.
Why don’t we formulate a question (or maybe a series of questions) and ask a lawyer?
My suspicion is, if we use a US youtube account, maybe ok? But I would ask some questions anyway before proceeding, if it was only me doing this. As it is, we’re a collective, so the discussion-to-agreement component is important. Learning about copyright law is an important part of doing what we’re doing here. Here’s an unparalleled opportunity to learn!
It’s not like there are no other silent movies we could use in the worst case scenario.
