    Wowzers!

It's an impulse buy price if you don't already have it.

    Well worth $30.

Shame they make you pay again for iOS though. They don't even offer a discount if you have it for desktop.

IK do love a penny pinch.

Yeah but IK are particularly bad when it comes to looking after existing customers.

You can get great deals (such as the mixbox deal above) as a new customer but upgrade pricing is non existent.

For example. The $29 mixbox deal comes with sunset sound (it’s amost worth it for that alone if you don’t have the t-racks version).

I have MixBox and T/racks sunset sound. Guess how much they want just for sunset sound for mixbox? €70.

    €70.

That’s not capitalism it’s daylight robbery! If making their existing customers feel shafted is their intention they’re succeeding admirably.

Compare IKs upgrades to Arturia for example. Once you’re a customer arturia offer really good deals for existing customers.

Ik? Not so much. Not at all in all honesty.

So caveat emptor with IK. Upgrading is almost never worth it.

Buy it cheap but don’t expect a reasonable upgrade path.

Ik should be making hay with all the current Logic hype and making bundle deals for people that have Mac plugins and want the iOS versions and vice versa.

I agree but, in fairness, Arturia does this better than anyone, so the comparison would be in their favour even with a proper IKM upgrade strategy in place. 🙂

Izotope is similarly crap BTW. You open pluginboutique and right off the street, with no previous izotope purchase you may be able to get a humiliatingly better deal than izotope's self-titled "personal loyalty deal" offered to you on their own website. It's ridiculous.

But if you stock up on almost everything IK makes during a massive group buy every five years or so, it’s hard to complain about their pricing ever again. I’m referring to desktop only. I’m not paying $ for their iOS stuff.

Izotope are also pretty poor, yes.

Good ones include United plugins that give you free updates for the life of the plugin and also discounts on bundles and also they have a referral system with 20% off for new customers and 10% back to you in referral credits. Unlike IK they also show dynamic pricing on their website when you log in showing you how much you save.

Tokyo Dawn give free updates. I’ve never had to upgrade anything TDR. They just keep everything up to date.

D16 give intro discounts to existing customers as well as discounted upgrades that are even less expensive.

Spitfire give discounts based on what you own.

IK usually repeatedly sell a product on sale to new customers for less than the price existing customers are expected to upgrade for.

Ik also have a representative that scours the forums for people talking about IK so he can admonish them in public.

Not really. It’s easy to complain

IK really do make you feel naughty for buying anything in a group buy.

They’re like utility companies that give good deals to “New Customers only” basically forcing you to leave when your contract is up whilst rhey fleece the customers that can’t be bothered to switch.

  • They’re like utility companies that give good deals to “New Customers only” basically forcing you to leave when your contract is up whilst rhey fleece the customers that can’t be bothered to switch.

I upgraded to Amplitube 4 for a $14 subscription to some music mixing website, and upgraded to Amplitube 5 with every single piece of gear in the Custom Shop during the last mega group buy. I think I spent around $226 to get almost every piece of software they sell. I believe any complaints from me would be unjustified.

Old customers can get the same great deals. It just takes lots of patience. Probably be another 5 years before I buy anything else from them.

  • Couldn’t resist at that price. I don’t have any IK at all so am on the Wowzers side of this debate.

Am I sure? Nope! Just saw people on other forums saying they got sunset included.

    I already have MixBox.

Perhaps those that bought via the deal can chime in?

This must be a huge loss leader for this web site to acquire new customers if true. Frankly, I’d want to check with IK Mulitmedia if they are authorized to sell their software because when something sounds “too good to be true” it usually is.

IK often do this, especially when something new is just round the corner.

If you check out posts on other forums such as gearspace and VI-control, people seem to be happy with them and they've received and redeemed codes for Mixbox.

Black Octopus been around for a while.

  • Well,I just bought it, and it does indeed have it. Which is pretty great, 😊. Thanks for your help! 😌

Then they do indeed seem to be absorbing a big loss on every sale, probably to gain new customers. It’s a calculated risk.

That’s just IKs MO. Mixbox has been out a while now. They’re probably about to release mixbox 2 or some new IAPs such as the newer Fame and stoneroom reverbs.

And then all the new customers will lose their sh1te over how much IK expect people to pay for the upgrades!

I’m still not convinced this is the real deal. If it comes with Sunset Sound add-on for free, why the hell wouldn’t they note that in their promotional copy? I don’t know and have never heard of this company, but to be very blunt it looks to me like a scam. Let me know when everyone who buys this and tries to register it with IK Multimedia if they have any problems with it.
