What do you think of MPE being preset based? I think I would have preferred to have it as an global on/off.

Preset based seems better for me.
Some models are not well suited for MPE and others are. So it’s better like this than having to jump every time in the options menu.

Also, has anyone tried the new sound pack? I got an offer for it but it's still very expensive for being "just" a sound pack.

You can lock it in the controller settings, the little lock icon... Didn't find it intuitively either, but was quite happy to have found it. Not sure if it remembers it after closing.

Ah, perfect. So everyone does the way he/she prefers 😊

  • I like very much playing Mathilda in MPE mode. Very expressive.

    Which pack?

Loney Tunes was released with the update. I got the other 4 so I got offered a 50% discount on the new one. Link

Didn’t even notice till you said it. Don’t know what to think, should be global, I thought it was global. Also it is neat to have it in preset settings.

  • Has anyone thought to do a few rounds with tomofon where you sample its output and then create an audio model out of its own output? I wonder what will happen....

I haven’t but I’m definitely gonna try it now lol that sounds like a fun time.

  • How's everyone getting on with Tomofon?

Have been sniffing around Tomofon desktop, but with today's low price on iOS I'm tempted here. Desktop will never go down this low in price. Unclear if there is any material difference between the platforms. I've not noticed Klevgrand doing that, in which case it would be all about workflow. My intention would be to combine field recordings with a one-shot library and create some magic. lol

    1. Anyone compared the desktop and mobile versions? Any material differences?
    2. Is it geared to play like a live instrument or generate new samples that could be exported?
    3. Generally speaking, is Tomofon better with loops or one shots? Equally good?
    4. Anyone have some examples using it with found sounds / field recordings?

    TIA

I gave this a decent shot... Tbh, although some of recent iap packs that came out were cool, I found it hard to make my own interesting patches on this. I don't like most of the factory content. I basically never use it.

Can you put your finger on where it disconnected with you? Watched a few videos last night and there is certainly a learning curve higher than most. I would be more in the create interesting patches camp rather than consume IAPs or presets.

  • Seems all sounds are samey. Was super hyped for it to release, messed with it, it's meh. But maybe you will be the one to break the code. Im also not as skilled as most music-posters here.

I was going to ask too, cause seeing the sale reminded me that it even exists. SoundTestRoom has a video from 2months ago that might show how capable it has possibly become.

I tried to watch that update and found it uninspiring. How unlike Doug.

Best video I've found to demonstrate someone working with Tomofon is this:

  • So basically it takes any sound, and turns it in to a pitched up squeezing a rubber chicken sound.

  • Yeah... after reviewing a number of additional videos on Tomofon yesterday I decided it was definitely not for me. I get better sounds out of Tera Pro, so Tomofon at any price is not interesting to me.

I just felt that results fell into that uncanny valley where they didn't sound as realistic as good physical modeling or sampling. Yeah, just very meh overall. I genuinely can't understand what all the hype was about at this point.

I’ll say this. It’s certainly one of the more polarizing apps I’ve seen come out in the last year. Personally, I love it. And I don’t find the sounds very samey. I’ve made some patches I quite like as well as used it as a center point on a song on the album I’m working on.

Klevgrand seems to be really hit and miss with people and I guess I can kinda see why. Their apps are generally too niche to appeal to a wide audience outside of some of their effects. Kinda like the Teenage Engineering of the iOS world.
