Depending on what 'category' of apps we're talking about I'd say there needs to be at least one music app that breaks the 'magic' $100 barrier so what ever it is $99 intro price and >$149 regular price...

Sure nobody will by it so at that price they will leave the iOS market soon after they enter it , selling no more than 10 units lol

Depending on what it is, and what it offers, some people will certainly buy it

Some people is not enough, in this forum how many will pay 100 usd for an iOS app ?

Ask how many bought the FabFilter bundle when it initially dropped for ~$139?
...I bought it because I knew what I was getting :sunglasses:

For a 'fully featured' high-end daw/host I'd be happy to spend some cash even for the iPad...
...I chose the iPad over a MacBook Air for a reason...

  • I don’t want a stinking old piano 😝

And again the few buyers will not have follow up or upgrades from them. I prefer high end brand to stay in the desktop market that to abandon quickly the iOS with abandon software as we saw in the past.

There are exceptions of course like Fabfilter , Steinberg ….

So you think that Pianoteq doesnt worth $149 ?

It is not about if an app worth that price but if iOS musician can afford to buy an apps at this price target. Psychological price but even considering many went to iOS music as it was cheaper too.

I am not poor , I want to go to a Swann saxo to enhance my ambient music , but the app is around or even over $40 and I need to think deeply if I want to pay such a target price. I got Logic Pro X on my MacBook Air M1 but without any VST as Logic Pro self contain so many things that I don’t need any more.

I do music as a hobby like many here , don’t make any monney. For pro musician it is a very hard time to make a decent living , to pay their bill many need to sell some harware.

There are plenty of second hands hardware at low price on the market , more than buyers.

So for iOS apps beyond $40 the market is very tiny. Like other here to eat I pay more and more each month at supermarkets, in April food prices were 22 % up compared to March… so for Swann I will buy it only at a sales price.

I know many pro in Belgium, Germany and France. They lost 50 % or more of gigs, no budget for events , no contracts even as DJ with many clubs and bars ( play for free they say to them) and the weddings trend is to invité few relatives and organize a travel rather than a big event.

Lots of people. Myself and many others have gotten the GSDSP app bundle. Then there’s Fab Filters stuff, Cubasis 3+IAPs, Auria Pro, etc. Not saying I wish for apps to become that expensive, but if what it offers is worth it, it will find its audience.

I’d happily pay that for a full fledged DAW. We’ve been spoiled by cheap prices on iOS so much that now people complain if an app is over $20, which is still very very cheap.

  • I paid for Cubasis 3 and IAP less than $30 , other daw including Auria less than $30. Fabfilter bundle was my only expensive one but think it was on sales deal around 40 usd.

You don’t have any garantee of updates with an iOS app, you can’t resale it as you can resale VST. You got many instable apps , bugs so for professional producers they can’t rely only on iOS apps.

Ok.. so how much will this (possibly PianoTeq) cost?

Unknown. But I'm sure the good members of the AB Forum can easily squeeze a few more pages out of this thread hazarding guesses on that 😂 👍

If the momentum starts to fall off then someone can always mention the "S" word.

    Subscription 😈

  • Meh, I have enough space on my iPad for a piano decent sampler pack. But I am 100% not the audience for pianoteq.

Oh come on don't drop the "S" bomb

Me neither. Though I’m short of space at the moment.

I can see this being a big deal for people who’ve been aching for it, and who are particular about their pianos. For me, if it’s expensive, I couldn’t justify the cost, considering the use I’d make of it, and my (lack of) skill level.

All of which boils down to each to their own/horses for courses etc.

Yeah unless it has a crazy low intro price I probably will not buy it. I love pianos but I’m not so particular that what I have now won’t work. I mean Module, Pure Piano, Numa, Jax, etc all sound great to my ears. Plus I’m usually running them through distortion anyway 😂

  • I am not a pro so I can’t pay high price for using sometimes a Piano , and the piano sounds modelling got them in my Yamaha PSRx600.

I got Pure piano and I am very happy with that.

This apps is for pro musician making their living but for sure they prefer harware like the wonderful Kawai , the other bought the VST for their studio but don’t need it on iOS even they will never go to iOS music at this stage.

I k ow many keyboard players and nobody too is interested by such a app on iOS so I can predict if it come at high price that they will not sell many copies and they will leave the iOS market except if they can sell after pricey IAP.

We have all what we need here , stay in the VST that fine for me.

😂 The music I make doesn’t often lend itself to pure piano sounds (pun not intended). I do that occasionally but not enough to pay big for a piano app outside of Jax and PP. and I have I feeling Pianoteq may be the price of both lol

I have the same feelings with organs. The new GG app sounds great and I may or may not buy. But I already have Galileo, HaNon, and a few others. And that’s not including Module. And I’m usually running those through distortion to get that old Suicide type sound. So I have to ask, how much do I need it?

  • The age old question. Need vs want.

So, it turns out Pianotech is not the high-end brand that will be making an entrance to the iOS arena shortly. I know for a fact who it is but I’m not allowed to say under strict non-disclosure.

    But it rhymes with Cat-ivarius.

    Splativarius on iOS... confirmed!

  • I guess this meant PianoTeq?

  • Yes it was obviously pianoteq but this got flamed so badly he didn’t continue with the release HA sorry Ali

I think pianoteq prices are crazy because i wanted in on the group buy but i realized its like 25% off $200 or something like wow! I already have UVI Model D VST ($50) so I dont see myself buying anything more like that (unless it was SWAM really, they are kind of in their own class yes?)
