I thinl sustain support i in todo list.
Just to refresh my memory (i am not keyboard player so never used rhis feature), how it should work is simply when sustain CC with value 127 is received, synth should hold all played notes in sustain phase of envelopes until sustain CC with value 0 is received, and then continue into “release” phase ?

That sounds about right, adding to that sustain all additional notes played while sustain pedal is still held down. Voice stealing from oldest held notes if polyphony voices are exhausted. All held sustains going to release when pedal is released.

Thanks, will update Arto, i think this shiuld be moved to higer priority in some next update..

  • You mean I paid $25 for it and didn’t use it because of the crashing, and now it’s 9.99? 😂

it's released for iphone and 9,99€ here.
    is this a intro price?

if you already bought iPad version this is free update, if you still see price it’s just appstore glitch, after you try “buy” it it just downloads without charging you again

Just purchased and must say your patches are great. Really good! But...........no sustain pedal implementation, still?

    That seems... unsustainable.

Argh,.....I deduce Watson...we have a comedian of high repute on our hands, not so much Frank Carson......more Benny Hill!

    :D :D :D :D Always loved Frank!

  • But...........no sustain pedal implementation, still?

This update was exclusively about iPhone version and bug fixes and memory management improvements - there was really no time for new features, Arto worked nonstop since first release to adress all crash/memory problem/bug reports …

I think sustain support i in todo list.

    Yes correct.

    Values are 127=on and 000 =off
The midi CC number is 64 for sustain.

    Thank you.

BTW it isn't a massive deal as I look at Butter Synth as more of a soundscape/ ethereal sound machine rather than making electric piano patches where you would need the sustain pedal function.

Does this synth sound like Synthmaster 2? It
    Kinda looks like it .

For me, it is better, more capable and more stable!

As an Synthmaster lovers I’m curious, in what situations are SM2 unstable for you?
Stand-alone or as AUv3, in some specific host?

Have bought Buttersynth since a month back, but have not yet give it enough time, but it seems really powerful…

I still own and use SM2 and rarely have issues. I’ve had a crash or 2 and a situation a couple times where the effects caused the sound to cut out completely but those seem to be isolated incidents. I prefer Buttersynth as it’s become an all time favorite but SM2 still has its place on my iPad.

Before Butter Synth i tried force myself to use SM2 many times cause in terms of sound and modulrion capabilities it’s really great synth.
(Of course Butter Moves some details on completely new level, like flexibility of oscillators / filters routing, number of oscillators, advanced wavetable editor, more synrhesis type and much more built in FXs)

What was showstopper for me was UI - it’s just horrible mess. I was not able to do any more advanced sound design in it just because of that UI mess i was constantly sesrching where is some setting, cause they are spread across app UI in seemingly random manner.

But it’s probably great preset bank, if you are ok with just tweaking cutoff or few minor param, and just browsing presets witjout deeper sound design from scratch, then it is definitely useable

Dislike some details thoug, lile the fact that oversampling setting can be saved per patch which completely makes no sense to me and you need to re-check after every patch switch if new patch doesn’t override your oversampling global settings (may have significant impact on sound quality and of course CPU load)

I agree with you 100%. The UI for designing your own patches is not good. Whenever I use SM2 it’s for quick presets I’ve favorited. I may make some minor adjustments but I just can’t get inspired to make my own presets in it. Buttersynth has it beat there by miles. Sound wise I think they’re on about equal playing ground. I’d give the slight edge to BS just because I have some patches I’ve made that I love, which is something I can’t say for SM2.

meanwhile checked speciffication, it’s actually any value <= 63 is off and any value >= 64 is on

BTW, I see no way to favorite presets in ButterSynth.
Not possible or am I just blind?

unfortunatelly not for now, it’s on todo list ..

only workaround for now is to create category “favourites” and save presets there … not much usable workaround, but only one which comes to my mind

  • @Kirnu. Hopefully this will reach you…resample from synth options in the wavetable editor tools cause the synth to crash. Both standalone and AU.

  • someone knows how long that half price lasts?

  • Does anyone know if there are scales somewhere in the sequencer section?

I promise when i one day start making music apps, i’ll never do sale. Full stop. 😂

Maybe contacting other app developers who’ve solved that problem could be informative. Yes, I realize this is a competitive market, but you’d be surprised who might be willing to give some pointers.

It’s not that, it’s the fact that I haven’t been using it because it crashed so much. It’s a bit of a burn.

OK, I get that. Fingers crossed.

  • Anyone else having crashing problems with the Resample feature in the ButterSynth wavetable editor? Clicking on any of three Resample options results with immediate CTD.

Also one patch playing one octave higher after the last patch (issue is in AUM and LP4iOS, I’m certain because of frozen track)?

    (iPad Pro M2, iOS 16.5.1)

yes, known bug, already reported it to arto

  • Is it possible to import/insert single cycle waves as 'frames' into an existing wave-table?
Does it have a 'morph' function when creating the wave-tables (ie. morph from one frame to another over x-frames?).
(I've checked the manual and no found mention of this, or maybe I'm blind?).

The Resample Synth Output was one feature I was potentially interested in but seeing that it makes the app dive I've got no rush to get it at the moment...

  • anyone got experience with buttersynth in cubasis 3? is it crashing?

yes you can import wavetables and butter automatically morph between them with “position” knob.. for example if younload just 2 completely different waves and then sweep postion knob it continuosly sqeeps across whole range from one slot to other one … it simply spreads all slots you loaded always across whole position knob range so you simply morph across all loaded samples

yes something got broken in wave editor custom sample loading / exporting routines it was working ok before and now it’s crashing, weird .. reported all and sent crashlogs

  • Seems to be crashing in Drambo for me. Works okay for a while, then crashes. Two instances loaded but it also happened when just one was present. Known issue @dendy?

I get that, I was more referring to adding actual 'morphed/interpolated frames' into the wave-table.
This is something that both Nave and the PPQ WaveGenerator can do.
A similar method for creating samples was used in CMI Fairlight where the resulting sample morphed from frame one to frame two over x number of frames.

Precision wave-sequencing can become a bit tricky when using a 0-100 range where there's a little control over which frame the actual value ends up selecting or if it selects a 'mid way' between two frames.

Then again 'wave sequencing' and 'wave table scanning' are two completely different synthesis methods.

I can always go back to SunVox and create a meta-module that triggers single-cycles waves and cross fades between them in a controlled manner when needed :sunglasses:

    Cheers!

The only way I can use Buttersynth is with Garageband and it has now proven to me that it is very unreliable as an AUv3, despite the nice sounds. It will not retain the patches I load, so every time I open a project I have no idea what i’ll be getting on Buttersynth tracks. Unfortunately, I’ll be asking for a refund. I’m glad there’s no issue for others, but it has not worked out for my purposes.

I’ve had this in Logic a bit. It’s something the dev’s working on I think.
