also it makes big difference if you add multiplies of base harmonic (2,4,8,16,32,64,…) - those add like “in tune” harmonic sound, but if you add some out of these multiples, it adds more “disharmonic” character to sound

Cool, thanks @dendy, really appreciate the tips for me to try. Cheers.

    It needs an update.
I wonder, why the crash in the wavetable editor is not fixed yet.

Sorry about that. I have been on summer vacation and just started reading the feedback here.
I'm really glad that so many of you like the synth and I'll promise you all the bugs will be fixed (even the Logic ones) eventually and there will also be new features implemented

  • Anybody have some tips on reducing the cpu usage while I am producing. I would set it back to high quality for final render.

if you enabled oversampling in app settings you can disable it .. other than that there is not much to do, just resample to audio …

Turn off oversampling and limit polyphony

Thank you I was already doing both. Freeze time.

Also, limiting grain count/length in the Granulator might help.

I really want to like this synth. I like how it looks for sure. Deal breaking criteria for great iPad synth for me is Filter quality and ease of configuring midi/matrix for wind controllers like Aerophone or EWI.

Currently cannot create custom CC map preset at all. Also don’t see Breath Control (CC02) or Expression (CC11) as destinations in the matrix. Why? Those are bare minimum universally common mappable controls for modern synths.

Midi learn also doesn’t respond to Breath Control. Dude.

Hope I’m just overlooking something. As it stands pretty disappointed.

All of Beepstreet synths, Mela 4, Qithesizer, Moogs do this very well. Many others, those are just my favs on iPad.

  • ButterSynth is reallllllly heavy on the cpu as well. It is a monster of an ideal synth in many ways though.

  • Thanks @tja Hopefully @Kirnu can make Butter Synth configurable for wind synths by midi learn and atleast CC02 (Breath), CC11 as destinations in the matrix rather easily in a coming update.

It can be, but not always. As with any synth offering these synthesis types, effects etc, it depends a lot on settings e.g. concurrent number of grains, , polyphony, number of oscillators active, oversampling etc.

Exactly. To be expected when you’re going all out and making crazy patches. I have a few that have been CPU heavy but in general use, it’s not too terrible for me.

  • in relation to the features the cpu is alright.
still buggy but a great synth.

  • Anyone managed to use the midi-learn? When selecting midi-learn in the context menu of a knob, nothing happens. I tried 2 different midi-keyboard (with assignable knobs). The both work in other apps. I tried to controle the wavetable position and the filter cutoff.

Known bugs need to be fixed.
    Did you inform the developer?

    sure

  • How are the bugs these days? Planning to use it as an AU in GarageBand (iPhone)

  • MIDI learn bug will be fixed in the next version which will be released soon.
Loopy crash problem with low buffer is still under investigation. I'm still waiting for response from @Michael

Oh! You are? I don’t see anything! Would you resend?

Please could you give some indication as to how long it will be, this Midi Learn bug is really spoiling the fun 😟

  • Is there any option to turn off the save changes before switching presets? It gets very annoying to tweak a preset and decide to go to another and some annoying pop up message prompts me to save changes or not.

I'll release new version this week

I'll make showing the dialog as a setting so you can turn if off

  • @Kirnu, can i just check whether ButterSynth is able to import .wtb wavetable files as exported by Waldorf Nave? Currently it doesn’t seem able to - i assume that’s as expected?

No support for that format. Can't you export pure wavetables from Nave? That is wav files

Unfortunately not, no. I guess it’s fair enough that they want to limit the use of wavetables created in their synths to only being reused in their own synths but it’s a shame nonetheless. Many thanks for taking the time to get back to me, really appreciate it. Cheers.
