Some desperately seek attention by creating threads and formulate the content like they ‘know’ something that others don’t. I call that social media / influencer disease and it’s more like a toxic virus.

Until we get our hands or fingers on it we can only play the ‘feature guessing’ game.
I suggest we all keep cool until the 23rd and then post our reactions…

    On point as always.

Well, I’ve just worked out that a similarly specced iPad, cost more than my 1/512 Mini + monitor last year - so they’d actually be making more profit from taking desktop sales.

The iPads that can pull enough weight to accommodate iOS Logic ain’t gonna be cheap.

I just bought 11” pro 3rd gen for £399 and sold my old 11” pro 2nd gen for £375. £24 + eBay fees upgrade.

    Good deal!

I’m rubbish at buying second-hand stuff, and I usually hang on to old devices (I’ve still got my original iPod and 3GS iPhone here somewhere), but I may seriously look at an Apple refurb this time, and possibly a trade-in with my Air 4. Or stick it in the drawer with the others…

Biggest reason I know to recommend buying iPad/iPad Pro from Apple (refurbished) versus a private party? Because of the battery. If you buy a used several year old iPad you are risking getting a battery that no longer holds its charge. The refurbished models all get new batteries from Apple and you can get an Apple Care+ warranty for repairs (I always recommend getting this coverage because it has saved me from very costly repairs many times in the past).

  • I use Pages on desktop and have tried to use it on iPad. They are different, the iPad version is a bit of a PITA. I also use FCP on desktop and it looks, by the video and screen shots, that there will be missing features on iPad. But both Logic, and especially FCP, are thick thick thick with features. (I actually look forward to a version of FCP that is streamlined.)

I think it's very possible there will be differences between iPad Logic and desktop Logic. They may not be that meaningful, though. It's going to be fun,

This. I gave my old iPad 6 to one of my kids, and then got a refurbished iPad 6 from Apple for the other kid. The refurb unit lasts much much longer on a charge.

Yeah, nice to have a new battery and guarantee. I’m thinking a refurb M1 is the way to go.

  • Hmmm...

All I can say is that I've had Logic on the desktop for years now. It works well... has TONS of great effects, instruments, samples, loops, etc. It's pretty solid and reliable.

Yet... I still find myself preferring to play with all the apps I have on iPad instead.

It's not like the desktop version hasn't basically already had a touch interface with the Logic Remote App. And yet, when I screw around with sound stuff... I'm still preferring to use the plethora of apps I already have on the iPad. I like apeMatrix and AUM. I never had any real issues with Auria Pro to speak of. I messed around with it the other day and it seems to run just fine.

Granted, I don't really consider myself a musician, writing tunes, or producing content to release on bandcamp, etc. I like playing around with sound and sometimes using it for art videos, etc.

Sooo... if I've already been able to enjoy the full version of Logic on the desktop for years... AND use a touch interface with it via Logic Remote... why would I be chomping at the bit to be able to also use Logic on my iPad?

I'll try it out for sure, but I doubt I'll be paying a subscription for it.

My only real concern with all this news is that Apple might try to make FCP and LP for desktop subscription also. I'm not quite sure what I'll do if they choose to do that. My guess is that I'll look for non-subscription alternatives for desktop and mobile.

  • If apple goes sub for the desktop as well i say hello to reaper. I tested this already, i could live with that.

You don’t have battery issue if you change the iPad every 4/5 years. I had ipad 1, 2, 4, air 1, air 2, pro 10.5, pro 11 v1, v2 and now v3. The only ipad I’m having battery issue with is my 10.5 and it’s only because I kept it because of the headphone jack. The battery life is shorter but nothing major.

    Just checked:

    Refurb IPad Pro 11” 3rd gen 128gb Wi-Fi + Cellular £759
Exact same model I just bought £399 from cash converters with 1 year warranty.

    That’s £360 difference!!

Transferring data between devices is such a breeze these days that there’s really not much point in getting attached. I can’t even tell the difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen other than the cpu meter in loopy pro has gone from 80 to 50%.

Yeah I don’t use it on desktop anyway. I won’t do two subs, so I’ll do most of the leg-work on Logic iOS, freeze and export the stems, and then add a bit of polish in Live.

Thanks! Some good prices for 2020 12.9” iPads, I’m hoping for an M1 though.

All still academic at the moment though, as the upgrade will depend on how I get on with LP.

I think along the same lines as the honourable members above. I have LPX on the desktop, and I use it in a very different way compared to how I use music software in the iPad. Different workflow, different plugins, different everything. And I like both ways, I'm not looking to unify them at all. But sure, a free trial never hurts.

I got an 11in Pro M2 in December (xmas) :) and have already sold my 2017 10.5in Pro.

I'm loving it yes... but if I'm being completely honest... other than the fact that I have a usb-c port now for direct video editing to disk in Lumafusion... and a couple of machine learning apps that do a great job with uprezzing images (Photomator)... I'm not seeing a HUGE difference in the rest of my use. The screen is great, etc. etc. but seriously... I feel like I fell for the latest/greatest once again.

If I were you, I'd consider a refurb 11in M1 with plenty of storage. Or maybe the 12.9, but those are too heavy IMO for casual browsing. Even with the 11in Pro M2 I often put it on a stand.

Also, I'm running a 2.5k external display off the M2... it's cooler than I thought it'd be. It's like a modular computer setup (not as in audio modular). I can use my keyboard/trackpad with 2 screens like a desktop... or, nab the iPad and go sit on the sofa surfing. For the usb-c and external display (not mirrored) feature... those 2 things alone were worth the upgrade. You can do that with the M1 as well.

I hope the OP is in fact a social experiment. If it is, it's working beautifully. 🙂👌

Since the announcement, commenter after commenter has confidently asserted how LP for iPad will be a full equivalent to the desktop version. Without any evidence, of course, as the actual product is not available yet. Pretty much none of them were called out, as that would go against the feeding frenzy.

Now comes a guy with an opposite prediction. Also with zero evidence, as there still isn't any. But he's called out immediately, often by the same people who made the previous, similarly unfounded predictions. Hilarious, but entertaining.

The eye of the tiger. 🙌

Seeing the screenshots again, I’m not seeing any fancy automation and most importantly I haven’t seen a single screenshot with audio warping or transients.. If they’re calling it Logic Pro, you’d expect the same product and features on a different platform. If there’s no decent audio editing and proper auv3 automation it’ll be huge bluff so I surely expect them.

  • The other thing, again this is speculation, is that there isn’t any real incentive to push all the features of Logic Pro immediately. All they have to do is slowly and steadily release iterative upgrades that add more features that we would have seen in the desktop, and people will renew their subscriptions to try them out.

  • I can't believe how much people are trying to predict what this is or isn't based off a few screenshots. 😂 It's pretty ridiculous. I personally would love a moratorium on all logic threads til the app comes out. Would anyone here think it remotely rational to judge the capabilities of AUM, for example, based on a couple of screenshots?

Come on people, we've got to be better.

This is not a jab at you Tahiche, in particular, by the way! You're a great forum member, and in your last post you point out that the screenshots don't reflect your idea of what the app could contain.

And we're all excited about this sudden news.

But this idea that we can judge what's coming based on a few screenshots or vids is pure madness. And I'm seeing this all over the forum.

People focusing on a few pics or screenshots and making their mind up about what's coming based on those. Sheer madness. A deep app like this will have many windows. No one or two pics is going to ensapsulate what it can do.

  • Not the pro version, but this logic will fit any screen... looks flex-able too...

I don’t think $5 a month (Sub) will do much for Apple. I think the idea is to sell more iPads.. I think we will hear more on Logic Remote (for LPXiOs)…

Cheers Skip! Yeah, I think the M1 is a good fit for me, I wouldn’t want to go lower than that, and the M2 might be excess for my needs. The money saved could go on extra storage, which would definitely be needed if I gel with Logic iOS.

I think I also need to try out a 12.9” for size, as I’ve never actually seen one (the nearest Apple Store is a 3 hour trip away), but a mate has one so I’ll go and check that out.

Aside from lack of space, I’ve been happy with the 64gb Air 4, but if Logic ticks the boxes then I’ll have to sort out this upgrade.

    My take on this is:

If Logic Pro for iPad are missing advanced key functionalities from the desktop version, Apple would call it Garageband Pro…

Remember, there are a lot of prestige here - Apple will certainly deliver now on the Logic Pro for iPad…
Also, if this release is crippled, it would have been released for many years - Apple have been waiting for a big market that has bought enough with capable iPads who can run full fledged Logic Pro and Finale Cut Pro…

So, crippled down versions will not happen…
