True for many but not for me. As a subscription there is 0 chance I'll use it so no point in trying it. I already know why I don't want it.

I found it difficult to follow the logic here in general. I mean, if you "know" you don't want it, you're supposed to have an idea as to why you don't want it - that's how "knowing" works. If you need a trial "to figure out why you don't want it" (instead of figuring out whether you want it or not) then you clearly don't know yet. 🤷

    4. Apple still needs to sell desktop Macs. It makes no sense to cannibalize their sale of that.

Well, I’ve just worked out that a similarly specced iPad, cost more than my 1/512 Mini + monitor last year - so they’d actually be making more profit from taking desktop sales.

The iPads that can pull enough weight to accommodate iOS Logic ain’t gonna be cheap.

I just bought 11” pro 3rd gen for £399 and sold my old 11” pro 2nd gen for £375. £24 + eBay fees upgrade.

It requires a bit of time to find one under average price used and then sell yours over average price.

In other news I bought a 6s for my daughter and delaminated the screen while trying to replace the battery so, all in all the luck evened out. 😅

    Nice!

I did the same thing last week. Scoured Ebay for hours looking for a bargain Gen 3 11" Pro. Finally found one and was able to get $400 for my Gen 1 11" Pro. Net cost to upgrade from a 1TB Gen 1 (A12) to 2TB Gen 3 (M1) was around $500.

  • So, these are my thoughts. But hey, I could be wrong. I actually vouched for Logic to come on the iPad, yet I’ve got rid of my M1 iPad and I’m definitely satisfied with the iPad 9.

It looks like the Ipad Logic will closely duplicate the desktop based on Apple's posts. Probably when the next Logic desktop update is released (which is imminent:)

I'm not entirely sure what you are on about mate, but it seems like you're having a tough time with people asking questions or having a different opinion, let alone not understanding your brilliant points. But hey, that's okay, whatever floats your boat. Do what you gotta do👍

Are there any reliable rumors coming out of Apple that there will in fact be a new version of macOS Logic Pro soon?

  • I think I read they'll be announcing Logic Pro Apple Watch version at WWDC 23.

I haven't seen anything, but it's hard to believe they wouldn't move quickly to add plug-in tiles to desktop Logic, and of course Sample Alchemy and Beat Breaker.

Yes, if total parity isn't available soon I can't imagine desktop Logic Pro owners will be happy about that.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Logic Pro 11 announced at WWDC, or even as soon as next week. Or maybe we'll just get a point release in the short term to add the new plugins.

I don't understand why saying that iPad’s Logic is a light version is so unpopular here. Actually, I do..

For now, everything seems to be going in that direction, video teasing and rationality: Apple still needs to sell Macbooks and pros DON’T f**ing care about a Logic on iPad.

I'm sure some would take great pleasure in ruining this thread so that it will be deleted.

Hold in mind - The newer iPads with M1/M2 CPU has thunderbolt 4 support, so, Logic Pro on iPad can be run on external monitor, complete with a Thunderbolt 4/USB-hub and you can also run keyboards and soundcards, external SSD etc etc…
Easy to connect a mouse and keyboard - the newer iPads is extremely powerful and versatile…

As I’ve said, non controversially since no one really does or should care about what I think about logic on iPad, I’m probably not going to be checking it out since my iPad only has 64gb and it’s a 9th gen basic iPad. BUT, my immediate thoughts on your post was that it’s not really practical to run all of that on a device with only 1 Thunderbolt port. Then, my next thought was, “Oh yeah, my MacBook Pro only has two ports and a headphone Jack.”

However, I think the biggest impediment to logic on iPad if someone is ok working with the screen sizes available, external monitor excepted, is iOS itself, because without a file manager that functions like finder, moving files around still takes way too many steps and too much thought, at least for me. Maybe that will change, or maybe I just don’t use the files app enough to realize it’s not as hard as I think.

I have the same model with the same amount of space. Gonna be tight, but I've been assuming that the benefits will still outweigh the negatives.

Depends on if all factory content is really needed?
I think a base install with the essentials will land at around 3-4GB the rest will be optional.
(Desktop Logic install with the essentials is ~2.5GB).

Apple have pulled some bullshit over the years, but forcing people to have to pay huge amounts for extra storage seems at odds with the cheap 'No barrier to entry pricing model for the subscription. I could be wrong, of course.

Also, If their motivation was to force up-sales on internal storage they likely would've held off adding the possibility of shifting the desktop library to an external drive. It wasn't always possible. Back in the day if we wanted to download the entire library, it was oly possible to store it on the internal.

  • Actually, if anything, being able to push stuff to an external drive at least necessitates the purchase of a dongle ;)

That is speculation. The actual size of the Logic Pro app for iPad is unknown at this time, but when samples are involved you're going to get a bigger app. When I downloaded Logic Pro on desktop I chose to not download GB's worth of loops because I don't have the space. I presume this option will be available on iPadOS also.

Of course it's speculation. But on desktop, they made the initial package (Itself, not obligatory) is only 2GB.

And again, on desktop, it's possible to offload re-locate all data to an external drive. So if you do have an external for your desktop you might find certain of the included sample instruments worthwhile.

Apple have made it possible for apps to use data (not programs) on external drives. We see that already with a few apps such as Pure Synth Platinum. I will be really surprised if Logic Pro isn't able to do this right out of the box. If not, then I'm pretty certain they'll be forced to add it in some capacity soon.

Do you think we could use an external drive for the iOS Logic libraries? That’d give my 64gb Air 4 a bit of a breather.
