I think future humans will look back at this time in dismay and wonder how we could have been so stupid to allow the A.I tsunami to roll over the world and decimate our jobs.
Pitchforks? Torches? What does the opposite of 'allow' look like and how do people avoid going to jail? Asking for a friend.
In other sectors of industry it started a while ago, just named automation, A.I. isn’t the problem just it’s use, same as any other tech, it’s just perfectly natural in essence, evolution, but we get to decide that evolution or hand it over to A.I. Lessons sometimes have to be painfully learned, fools rush in…..
Realistically I can't see any way of stopping it. Rumour has it that a company already has AGI up and running and can perform math at the level of grade-school students. That doesn't sound that impressive but it really is and it's a massive big deal. I've also heard that one of the big stumbling blocks in developing A.I is feeding it enough human information. The've worked out a method now where the A.I can generate that data as well.
Imagine an agent running on a machine that monitors a worker. Sees an email come in, sees the worker transfer that information to another app that generates an order and then see's that order being sent to another company. Eventually that agent see's another email comes in and attempts the same operation but get's it wrong. The operator corrects it to the point where it gets it right. Multiply that across all the people in that company doing the same task and then multiply that across all the tasks done by everyone in the company that sits at a computer.
You can see where this is going.
Yes it’s growth in terms of knowledge could be exponential only limited by storage of that information, you also refer to the hive mind learning, collective or central server, when one learns information that would become near instantaneously known to all.
They do have other limitations aside from storage, they’re still energy inefficient. Then the big one if we allow it self reproduction.
So it sounds like you are saying that "the future humans who look back at this time in dismay and wonder how we could have been so stupid to allow the A.I tsunami to roll over the world and decimate our jobs" are just dicks then.
AGI will be complimentary to human survival until these models are completely self-sustaining. That might happen years before we anticipated, at least according to the “Singularity” timeline theorized by Ray Kurtzweil.
By the way, “decimate” only means “reduce by 10 percent”. Perhaps you meant “obliterate”?
Have you seen how quickly very dexterous robots are now being developed? Tesla’s Optimus robot is on the leading edge of becoming the first general purpose humanoid robot, capable of replacing all low-wage, entry-level labor in the world. There will be a wave of manual labor replaced, never again to be populated by humans. I think this could happen in the next 5 years. And this means that the desperate attempts right now to flood populations with migrants to prevent countries from collapsing due to population drop will be completely in vain. Millions of people in countries where they won’t be able to get work will result in economic and political collapse.
I was actually just quoting cyberheater and forgot the quotes... edited them in now to my original half stolen comment.
( also, seems like 1 and 2 are in conflict. even words can't agree with themselves. we are doomed.)
This is going to be a big change, and whenever that happens there will be winners and losers. It's also a massive opportunity - those who embrace the change and use it in new and creative ways that bring value and benefit will be rewarded. Some will try to use it to make a quick buck without any consideration for who gets left behind or steamrolled over. My point is, if you fear AI and what it brings, you won't be able to take full advantage of the opportunities it offers. When cars came along, the entire industry of horse driven vehicles and equipment was decimated. It took a long time, but very few would want to go back to the old days. Progress is going to happen, but what we need are people who will guide it and manage it in a way that benefits the majority, not the minority who have the access to the AI tools and technology. No one knows what sort of amazing things will be done with AI in music, or what new jobs and opportunities will arise. Just because things will be different doesn't necessarily mean they will be worse. That is determined by how people behave.
Over time the true meaning of the word “decimate” has been obscured through popular misuse.
That's normal, language evolves. Main thing is that in modern English it means something close to annihilate, so I think we have more important things to be discussing 😂
Yes, language evolves… through misuse and misunderstanding all the time. 😂
Not necessarily misuse in every case, but certainly usage changes over time.
Similarly the word ‘awful’ at one time was complimentary, as it meant awe inspiring.
Forgive me... But can we have a definite definition of AI as it pertains to Music Production... If it the Lumbeat's approach (would that be AI?)... There is no question AI is the future.
True “A.I.” doesn’t exist yet (unless you believe the rumors about OpenAI’s supposed breakthrough***), in every case we’re only talking about machine learning systems. None of them are artificial general intelligence.

This scenario is closer than we might think.
As long as all we are left with is broken hearts. Her and Ex Machina are the two best takes on AI I’ve seen so far. Let’s hope for Her.
awfully good comment that
I thank thee sirrah!
In general, I think AI will be more central in video production than audio production - because the human eye is more forgiving than the human ear when it comes to reconstructing a cogent whole from a series of "events". But I think AI will be a very important and useful part of music production.
In terms of predictions, I wonder when we'll stop referring to it as simply "AI".
You should turn your attention this very minute to http://www.suno.ai and see for yourself. You'll be shocked how fast this has become viable as a means of creating music (especially pop, rock, rap, etc.).
Here's their showcase: https://suno-ai.notion.site/Chirp-v1-Examples-cc71e6c0c79f4e03acf39aa5d5a3dd09
No way to stop it
Yes, it absolutely will [written and posted by my bot]
That does seem to rebut my point about cogency coherence. The generated music does sound coherent. However, it is not music I care to listen to, which is why I wrote that AI will not be as "central" in music creation.
To create music that I care to listen to requires (at this moment) that there be some interplay of elements that changes over time. I think it's easier to create this (e.g., from prompts) in video than in music.
Deep down, I suspect that I don't want to actively listen to music created by non-beings, but I'm trying not to resort to that argument quite yet.
In 6 months to 1 year from now, you honestly won't be able to tell the difference. Only 6 months ago Google was creating generated music that was barely listenable. It's going to be 10x better in another 6 months.
Now we're getting somewhere. I added a reminder to my calendar.
I was kinda impressed with suno and Google’s VoX. I do like how Google collaborates with real singers, and that you can isolate the vox. I do look forward if they get more singers.
As a hobbyist, I feel indifferent about music A.I. No matter how great the quality of A.I. generated songs become, it won’t stop people from trying to produce their own material, even if their level is currently inferior to that of AI. Just as player pianos didn’t stop people from learning to play piano. Aspiring and amateur guitar players didn’t give up the instrument because of apps such as Riffler. Scaler 2 didn’t discourage writers from better understanding theory and composition. The tools either get used as a crutch, and or can aid in learning and spark curiosity.
Right now I pay for a subscription for human VoX samples to incorporate as sample sources for my stuff. . Eventually, AI vox will improve where you can tweak the accent, region, tone, and other attributes better. I’ll just substitute one subscription for another is all. Good vocalists will be able to use AI to aid with their own demos in the areas where they lack, just as producers will use vox services to help showcase their own unique production skills. I say, hooray. Humans will continue to collaborate regardless.
I do feel for professionals being negatively affected, but adaptation has always been necessary for professionals in the arts.
Mark my words, the future will be making ugly music…. Cuz AI is gonna make all the bangers lolol. My lack of skill may be a superpower in the future!
