  • Cool!!! Instabuy for me. :) For AUM.

  • What are the faders like?

Are some daw faders made long better for mixing, than some controllers and maybe encoders?

Will long faders ( full screen ) be better than midi mixer?

  • Looks great to me!

Keep in mind that no matter how long a fader is, the resolution is limited to only the 128 available cc values.

Unless sending out pitchbend, I suppose?

Yes, but then the receiving app has to be able to map pitch bend to a control. There are also 14bit NRPNs that can be used for higher resolution, but both the sending app and the target app would need to support them. I haven't checked if the 4pockets app can send them from faders.

But for most intents and purposes, 128 steps is all there is to work with.

Mostly dealing with this shitty old iteration of midi when new better midi implementations are a possibility. Is it really so hard for apps to implement the new midi 2.0 specs?

  • oooh i like the look of this. Could use it as a custom control surface effectively replacing the inflexible UI in Mozaic (and just send CC messages from this to Mozaic).

Yes, it is probably (a shitload of work) deeply difficult to adapt for the majority of apps. A lot of effort for probably a tiny minority of people who even know or care about it and hardly any controllers and hardware that support it either.

  • I watched the video.
This is going to be extremely helpful for a lot of people.
I didn't get any sense of whether 14bit NRPNs could be sent from faders and knobs. I did see that buttons can send multiple messages and even bulk dumps though, so maybe.

  • Looks great. Can see the potential to create a custom keyboard incorporating chord pads, a standard keyboard layout and an isomorphic keyboard in the geoshred mould. Been wanting to do that for a while

    cool.

  • i’ve grown to love the 4 Pockets apps, this one looks very useful!

  • Oh man I’m definitely getting this. Would be perfect for AUM.

  • Never one to rest on his laurels!

I start watching the video: whoa! …… what? …… holy moly!

  • This is realy cool... Paul is incredible ... he is just pushing one cool app after other ..

    Me too.

Paul has a collection of really useful apps that are not too expensive and not too hard on the iPad's CPU. A great developer!

  • This remind me of TB MIDI Stuff - an app not available anymore on the Appstore…

Also, this kind of app would have been something Jonathan (AUM) could have built into the AUM it self…

Agree on that Paul is a great developer…

  • it can be controlled by side midi plugins? mLFO, Drumbo, etc?

  • Instead of wasting time making mockups of how something should operate, now we can make our own full functional one. I like it very much! Thank you Paul! 🤩

  • hmmm, this could be exactly what i was looking for when it comes to controlling a new hardware synth i just got.

  • Having this as an AU will be fantastic.

Wait a minute, this is AU indeed?!

  • I have bought a few of these controller builder apps over the years and never ended up used them because they weren't auv3, so I'm quite excited about this, even though the UI style is not to my taste. Potentially very useful!

  • Powerful looking thing, though it triggers some repressed memories of Visual Basic  Imagine if the standalone let you draw borderless audio units as well as controls. You could build your own DAW!

...and if it also had a "sub module" you could charge yourself a subscription.

You can import custom PNG (transparency supported) on buttons, finger crossed we could do this with background too.

Will be great for FX chains, take the most relevant controls and use them on one small custom surface. 😎

  • This is brilliant. Will be a great addition to drambo!

Yes, the only problem with that is that any knob or slider in an actual app that you play directly has many more than 128 discreet levels. This is why playing on an app itself is better than playing via a midi controller of any kind for certain things - filter sweeps for example. Still, undoubtedly will come in handy for most uses.

From the video it seems pictures stay in background, so you probably just have to stretch it to cover the whole canvas
