There’s no note offs? I thought I saw it in there, but I’ve only had a handful of test runs with the app so far…
Thank you good sir.
Apologies for so many comments, lol.
I asked the developer Paul about the Note Off, and he confirmed the way to do that is just a Note On with velocity zero, and if you look very closely you'll see that's how he handles it in his tutorials on YouTube.
@McD - I haven't been following what you've been creating closely but I've noticed the word "Chord" a lot. Just checking ... have you seen explored the Chord Pads object type? Paul covers it in one of his videos.
I’m coming close to the end of my journey into this one. I need more programmable features to sustain interest.
Unless people request solutions I’m running out of problems to solve. I do not like filling out forms as a general rule. My thumbs are getting worse. I should keep a Bluetooth keyboard handy or go deep into voice control. I’ll bet fixing speech to text errors is a nightmare just using voice… maybe just using thumbs for errors would be OK.
@McD - I've taken to using the mini keyboard and typing with my index finger rather than thumbs on my iPad. I don't have problems with my thumbs, but am finding that this works lots better for me. I also like that it doesn't cover up so much of the screen, and can be moved out of the way if it does cover up anything. Might be worth a try.
A bluetooth keyboard is ideal, but not as mobile even with a handy foldable one like I have.
Good tip. ON the iPad I type with a Smart Keyboard but the iPhone has been getting a lot of screen time and it’s destroying my arthritic thumbs. I told the doctor it hurts when I do that. He says “Stop doing that.” Like most doctor’s advice: loose weight, exercise more, drink less… I’m taking it under advisement.
The Surface Builder platform has been approved at patchstorage:

Great work folks.
Fantastic! Thanks to everyone who voted and commented.
Yup so has loopy pro and Sunvox! Hooray!
I have a surface file from patchstorage. According to the app I should be able to drag and drop surface files into Load Surface, but that doesn’t work. Share is unable to allow surface files to be loaded. There seems to be no way to load these files. Any workarounds?
Did you do it this way? Should be working as intended.
What iOS do you have?
If that doesn't work, you don't have to use drag and drop. You can just find the file in the files app (or under the safari downloads button), then long-press to bring up the popup and tap Share. From there you should be able to send the file to Surface Builder.
Thanks. Yes. The file icon bounces back as if drag and drop is not an option. I will reboot the iPad and see what happens. I should have done that before posting.
Be sure to run the app once in standalone first too, if you haven't already done that. Sometimes that's needed by apps in order to set all folders, permissions, etc.
Thanks. I did that as well. Not sure what the problem is.
Have you tried what I suggested - importing from the files app instead of with drag and drop?
If that doesn't work then I think your only option is to export any surfaces you want to save and then reinstall the app.
By importing you mean sharing from the files app? Did that first thing. It does not show up as an option. All other apps that utilize drag and drop work flawlessly. Thanks for your help with this!
Looking again at your screen shotI think there's something wrong with that particular file. It's the only one greyed out. I would delete it and try downloading it again.
Can you send the URL where you downloaded the file from?
Maybe you are referring to my demo screenshot, when you start dragging a file, the initial location is grayed out. Screenshot was taken in the middle of the dragging.
Oh yeh, sorry for the confusion.
Nothing to be sorry about, your willingness to help someone is inspiring! 🤩
Absolutely!
Quick question: is there a command to send the state of all knobs/buttons in a surface?
Can you explain further? Are you looking for a report or a view that would show the settings for every object on a surface - e.g. something that has this type of information all in one place (rough example below)?
Fader "Track 1" - MIDI Ch1 1 Port 1 CC 10
Knob "Pan" - MIDI Ch1 Port 1 CC 20
X-Y Pad "Reverb/Delay" - MIDI Ch 2 Port 1 X= CC 11, Y=CC12
No I meant a quick way to send all of the current MIDI CC values for all of the knobs and buttons as a way of syncing the surface screen with a target synth's parameters. That way the knobs on screen will reflect all of the current parameter values on the synth.
Got it - that's a great question. I've used the app a lot but don't know of a way to do that. I second your question.
Actually, I guess if you just set up and take a snapshot, that would do it. I assume snapshots take all current values and would send out all of them at once when the snapshot is selected. I'll try it. Essentially you could program an "Init" patch and start a synth programming session that way.
Brilliant! If you don't mind, Ive tested it out using some faders that I was using in an AUM project to control BeatHawk per-pad volume, and confirmed that at least in the scenario that I have, it will send the MIDI values from all of the objects including the one that changed with the snapshot. In the screenshot, only the value on the second fader from the left has changed when changing from snapshot 2 to snapshot 3, but you can see the sends on all of them.
All credit for this idea goes to @kudamm99
Sweet! Thanks for testing it. I'm building a surface for my Craftsynth 2 that's not yet finished so I think I'll add some snapshots to the environment.
