Dang wish I wasn’t about to go into work. I’ll definitely watch it later though. Have fun! Sorry I gotta miss it.

  • Auto Bass being ‘musical’ :)

  • Aweome, @cem_olcay
Love this short track/jam. Gonna even check more from this channel

Btw, semi-off question. I don't have Chordbud 2 yet (only Chordbud 1), can we use it to drive chords on other buds?

You can pair it with ArpBud 2, a classic combo

    wow... silly me
    Gonna try it right now
    Thanks

  • I used Polybud, Rhythmbud and Stepbud to make it a bit more lively, and did a quick comparison with some random basslines that I generated in Riffer and Rozeta Bassline.

    @cem_olcay couple quick thoughts.

    1. have no idea how difficult it would be to implement, but I really feel like adding in ratcheting to individual bass notes would take this to another level. You could set a ratchet range, 1-5 or whatever and then a percentage for the amount of chance it will be applied to the generated notes. Like ratchet or repeat in Stepbud, other buds… I feel like it would really spice up the bass lines. Adding in a few extra notes in there to move the bass lines along.

    2. Also… adding doubles, triplets.

    3. I do like the converge, descending, etc… options you can set to the bass line, but it would be dope to expand upon that. Maybe things like Octave, Fifths, Slap, Shuffle, Arp, a few other melody/bass line type shapes or flows. A few eluded to this…

    4. This one is a lot to ask and not what the app was necessarily meant for, but…. if you could send midi in, like a chord, then have it play the notes of the chord in the shape of the generated bass line, that would be crazy. Maybe by playing the nearest note in the chord, or rotating through the notes in some way, heck I don’t know, but the idea of sending in chords and getting a sweet bass line out that has always intrigued me. This could also tie in with #3.

These are good suggestions, thanks. I’m working on improvements 👍

Awesome. Autobass is #5 in the US Top 200 paid Music Apps. Congrats!

Great combo. Several apps work well in combo.

  • @cem_olcay Have you ever considered a modular host for your buds? To me it seems like a wining idea to simplify the process of using your apps.

Last year I did an experimental AUv3 host app with SwiftUI, but it was mainly an educational project, I was learning SwiftUI. Then I made Patch Roulette for Apple Watch & iOS, which was a super fun game for modular noodlers like me

I'm not planning a host app for now but I was thinking about a 'experimental mother app' with the subscription model for my experimental stuff. I could add a new experimental AUv3 app to the mother app every month only for subscribers, like Patreon.
I love making super weird stuff and I don't wan't to release them as standalone products, but it might work with that model.

All good, just thought I'd mention as it would be super useful to have a Momma Bud app for me. I love the buds and would use them more in that type of environment. Momma Bud auv3 could be a separate app altogether, sort of like a giant auv3 bundle.

  • Any chance that we could specify a chord progression in the future?

  • The new version v1.2 is ready for the beta testing. It improves the sequence generation algorithm. Also fixes some minor bugs. Let me know how this version works for you. It will be live on the store soon.

I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the features of Auto Bass. I was hoping it would be something like Riffer on bass steroids. Almost everything that has been asked for in this thread Riffer can do and much more all on one page without menu diving.

In the end, it's just another generative midi note sequencer up against the best competition. Given the name of the app, which raises certain expectations, I miss some kind of algorithms that generates more than arbitrary notes within a root note and scale, but rather usable bass lines. iBassist and also Riffler, although the latter is guitar-centred, constantly deliver really convincing results that can also be edited and expanded quickly and easily according to your own wishes. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and use many of Cem's bud apps but Auto Bass leaves me a bit of a loss.

I agree, sorry to say. This can't hold a torch to many other apps doing similar things, it doesn't remotely feel to me like it generates anything a real bass player would play.

That’s crazy, it’s my favorite Bud app thus far

I have to set the tempo to double time to get the resolution I would like. I’m used to making beats in 80-90, but double time is no problem.

Would be cool if we could set the timing resolution. And the ability to slide, bend, hammer on and pull off.

Cool, different strokes for different folks!

  • Hey @cem_olcay had a very minor hiccup and sent you a DM explaining the situation. Not sure if you saw it or not yet so wanted to reach out here and make sure you saw it. Cheers.

I definitely like the idea of sliding or bending, he did add the accent feature which is cool.

  • The new version is live on the app store!

    • Random generator algorithm improved.
    • Improved complexity parameter's responsiveness.
    • Added double whole and 1/32 notes to the extreme ends of the complexity.
    • Density parameter is no more regenerates the whole sequence when it's changed.
    • It will update the current sequence in-place instead.
    • Added "Rate App" and "Feedback" buttons to the settings menu of the AUv3 plugin.

It’s an even better app now!

    🙏🙏🙏

  • The new update is coming soon. You will be able to move the notes individually up and down on the piano roll grid!
Just enable the move mode in the edit menu and drag them around. They will snap to the notes in the scale.

  • The new version is live. Let me know what you think!

Ooooo that’s awesome. Thank you 🙏

  • Nice! The ability to adjust bass notes is something I really wanted. Sometimes a pattern just needs a little tweak to make it right. Works great.

To tell you the truth I'm quite annoyed because it's just as misleading a tool as half of your apps.
You'd think if you saw random options with a piano roll that you could edit it. I also run through the description with my poor english and not paying attention I see the "Edit" upgrade doesn't include basic functions like moving a note left to right or even deleting a note. Similar good things can be said about rhythmbud where you can't fix the measure. Joke. Likewise with Chordbud, where I could even understand it, but before buying it, one would assume a basic option would be to move chords within a given length range without changing the length of the range. Ok they don't cost too much money. Maybe that's the reason i can forget it. Otherwise Apple unfortunately refuses refunds.

It's like ordering a Schnitzel and potatoe in a restaurant, seeing the price and realising when they bring it out that it doesn't come with a fork and plate. And you're to blame, why didn't you look more carefully.

Bro, it's explained literally on the first tutorial box in the tutorial section. There are lots of youtube videos and pages of discussions here. You can't say I'm misleading people with my apps. I've released 20+ music apps so far. They are all very specific apps for very specific purposes.

Let me 'update' your metaphor. If your order didn't have a fork and plate, you can ask me to bring them. Just read a few pages of this discussion. I wasn't even going to add the basic editing functionality but people have demanded it and I add them with the updates eventually, like I did with my other 20+ apps.
