  • Is 'MIDI learn' hidden somewhere in this synth (like Zeeon and Sunriser)? Had a quick play today with this, but couldn't figure it out!

    They're all in your DAW.

Ok, thanks for the info, I'll have to see if something similar exists in Logic Pro. Shame it's not the same simple 2-stage MIDI-learn operation as Zeeon & Sunrizer.

  • Just bought, after reading the thread, but on ios17.1 on iPhone 13 ProMax, it crashes on opening. Works on iPad though. Looking forward to investigating the hype of the filters. I’m sure the current bug will get fixed soon.

Glad you said that...that's the exact phone I have too

Just had the same experience on 17.1 on iPhone 15 Pro (couldn’t resist the $6 sale price!) A restart of the phone seems to have set things right. I’ve seen similar behavior from other AUv3s before.

  • Oddly enough I forgot I had this synth in my arsenal of Inst Plugins! Will have fun playing with this tomorrow.

  • @mjm1138 Yeah, that worked for me too. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Got this today in the sale and I’m blown away, you guys weren’t exaggerating. It’s up there with Monark for me.

  • I had to read the manual to get up to speed on this one, but now I know what all the knobs and switches do I’m impressed! The tone is incredible. I like that there aren’t too many presets, and the ones included seem like jumping off points for sound design. I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of Dagger, WELL worth the $6 sale price. Honestly a bargain at full price.

  • I was glad to pick up Dagger in the Halloween sale (Boo!). And I was glad to see that it exposed it AUv3 parameters for external control. But when I examined the list, I realized that the variables they control were not obvious. So I methodically tested them all and created the attached list (DaggerParameters.pdf). Hope someone finds it useful.

  • Love the sound on this, wish i could set it up for breath control like Zeeon.

Yeah it’s great. It’s hard to be unique in the synth department but they totally nailed a wholly unique sound and approach. Stands on its own for sure.

My favourite thing about Dagger synth is playing it in paraphonic mode, driving the filter hard and playing one note sustained and then playing another note and getting lovely distortion tones that changes depending on which combination of notes you hold down. If that makes sense.

Adding notes like 2nds and 9ths to the sustained note result in the kind of sounds I’ve only really achieved with hardware (circuit mono station and Behringer pro one are great for this) before.

Agreed. Paraphonic synths can do some cool stuff. I know lots of people generally want either mono or poly but I think paraphonic synths have their place too

  • @klownshed I don't even know if I've even heard a song that really utilizes the paraphonic aspect of a paraphonic synthesizer. I understand that it allows you to have the filter sweep over the course of two bars, while you sustain the root note and play other notes.

If you or if anyone knows of a song that utilizes a paraphonic synthesizer to its full potential, I'd love to hear it.

Many early "polyphonic" synths were paraphonic. The PolyMoog and the Arp Omni were paraphonic. They had polyphony but only one filter.

Check out the bass (Moog Sub 37) on this Stephan Bodzin track, the bass comes in at 1:25, paraphony comes into play at 2:08 and really sings at 3:00

If we’re being pedantic all those classic electric combo organs are technically paraphonic synthesizers.

And as others mentioned any track using using the PolyMoog or Realistic MG-1. The Waldorf Pulse is a classic para synth too.

What's the problem? I don't remember what Zeeon has for setting breath control cc, but regardless you can just use Mozaic or some midi filter in front of Dagger to get it working with breath controller.

Zeeon has a matrix so you can set BC/Aftertouch to modulate or control whatever you like which is amazing. Dagger doesn’t appear to have any midi settings beside assigned channel which is pretty disappointing unless I’m overlooking something.

I’m definitely not buying Mozaic or anny other app to make this app better. Hopefully @giku_beepstreet adds ability to assign breath control to which ever parameter (midi learn?) but if not it’s fine…there is no shortage of apps that can. If I’m particularly inspired to do extra work to cover the deficiency I’ll set it up in AUM which allows you to map whatever midi controls you wish and thereby any apps it hosts.

Apologies to dev if it’s possible and I’m just missing it which is very possible. If these type of settings aren’t easy to find or intuitive I typically delete the app because Aerophone is my main midi controller. I don’t even glance at midi keyboards anymore.

What host do you use? If the host has midi control of AU parameters (loopy, AUM and others do this), you can use the host to map the cc to whatever AU parameters you want to control.

You must have missed the second paragraph where I mentioned using this workaround. I even have a few states and sessions saved as templates to skip some steps.

However, there are way too many synths that sound great and have this basic functionality so its more likely I’ll continue to skip Dagger until it’s updated with midi learn or has at least the minimum BC or Expression maps. Sunrizer is super old. However, the same dev was aware of these essential assignments. In fact, Sunrizer and Zeeon are among my fav synths for wind instruments along with Qithesizer and Mela 4.

Dagger is the only app by Beepstreet with such a basic omission. I’m sure he’ll fix it eventually. I seriously doubt Giku wants his synths inaccessible in this way. Especially when the fix is dog easy.

It’s excellent. And a really unique synth, which is hard to do these days lol

I don’t use it nearly as much as I should.
