We definitely save it in the space that Apple says to, following this guideline. https://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/data-storage/index.html

It sounds like you have an external app that's doing something we can't prevent. @Synco, if you get any more details let me know either through here or my email: [email protected].

My recommendation is to save your presets often, through iTunes. It's not a great solution, but at least you'll keep your work.

We have an update for iProphet incoming. The fixes are going well so far. No ETA yet, but you bet I'll inform you guys when it's sent in. :)

Thanks for the update. I'm waiting to see some of the issues that have been mentioned in the reviews and on this forum to be sorted out before I pull the trigger. In particular, I'd like to see the MIDI implementation improved.

    Good luck!

Just out of curiosity, do you have any specifics on what you want improved for MIDI? Just so I don't overlook something crucial.

I've seen this 'cleaning' process kick in on my iPad in the past. iOS is doing it:
    http://osxdaily.com/2014/04/07/ios-app-name-cleaning/

But it should only delete temporary/cache data.

Personally I'm a fan of user-bank export/import through email. iTunes is cumbersome.

    Looking forward to the update!

  • One small midi improvement I'd like to see is the ability to map the joystick. Probably the best performance controller in the app cannot be mapped to a hardware controller for performance.

Would love to see two more CC added:for stick XY movements. And the ability to record this data in a sequencer like cubasis.

I've just been going by what I've read on this forum and in iTunes reviews, which, admittedly, is always dangerous, but here are some of the things that have stuck out:

First, full MIDI implementation, Virtual and Core, in AND out (some developers have been leaving the latter out -- not sure why, especially when the synths usually have keyboards that can be constrained to certain keys while DAWs with MIDI (Cubasis, Multitrack Studio) do not!). Along these lines, it seems that iProphet works with some, but not all, MIDI Sequencers, controllers. Obviously, it's not entirely on Retronyms whether iProphet works with all other iOS MIDI apps, but stuff like this gives me pause:

"Anyone else having an issue where iProphet will only recognize other midi apps/devices if they were plugged in/running before iProphet is opened?"

"Yes With midi, it listens but doesn't seem to work with setting virtual midi to its own midi. Example midiSequencer set to send out its midi works but setting it to send out to iProphet does not. Similar results with Arpeggionome Pro. To get around this you can use MidiBridge so that apps like SoundPrism and Orphion work. You also need to launch the app sending midi first so it can see it inside or outside of AB. The little red light to the right of the midi will light up when it receives midi. Running iOS 7.1.2 on an iPad mini retina."

Second, better MIDI documentation. Someone claims that there's no info regarding MIDI in the manual, and that it's unclear how to un-learn a MIDI CC assignment.

As always, thanks for your consideration.

  • Thanks for the detailed points, @papertiger. That's very helpful. Luckily I've already fixed the issue with needing to launch other apps before iProphet (and I believe this was in iMini too, which is also getting an update).

Also, if there's a particular app that iProphet is not playing well with, feel free to drop me the name and/or iTunes link and we'll get the app and test the issue.

Retronyms by our own admission is a bit lacking on MIDI, that's not really a surprise, and we're definitely always looking for a good chance to update our MIDI support. Adding some details into the manual should be an easy update.

  • Xynthesizer doesn't want to seem to connect to iProphet, even if you open it first.

@mana Regarding improving MIDI support, talk to @dwarman, he's quite an authority on the subject.

I would, but sadly I don't own iProphet yet. :) Using with MidiSequencer, Xynthesizr, and recording MIDI into Cubasis (and playing that MIDI back) would be high on my list. I think someone stated that the app works with MidiSequencer.

That's big of you guys to admit, and I'm optimistic about your comments regarding updating MIDI support. MIDI is a necessary evil.

And thanks again for participating. I've accumulated so many apps, that I'm now starting to put the brakes on acquiring them, and looking to support committed developers.

This is like a cold cold beer on a hot hot day. Cheers @mana

    +1 on joystick midi.

  • +1 Joystick midi!

Haha as I skimmed through the posts I totally assumed @papertiger was @Sebastian because of the logo...silly me

  • edited October 2014

This is a great synth, but I've used it less than an hour and have experienced the super low stuck note bug/issue twice. :(

Both times on patches I made (not presets).

  • if joystick will get midi, then mpk mini mk2 is the best joystick controller :)

  • Does the MPK mini send CCs in all four directions? The limitation with most joystick controllers is that they only send on both directions of the X axis and up on the Y axis.

  • @papertiger Playing the onscreen keyboard or external?

    Playing on-screen keyboard.

  • Should not make a diffefence i guess, since it's also a bug in the PC software. Can't imagine anybody is playing the PC Prophet serious on it's keyboard with mouseclicks :)

@Crabman I was thinking the other Way around: i played iProphet mostly from the onscreen keys and experienced very few stuck notes so far. So I thought perhaps it occurs more often with incoming midi data from external keyboards. But Papertiger's reply proved me wrong :-)

As already mentioned earlier in this thread, If you get stuck notes switch Unison on and off (better than changing preset and loosing your adjustments).

Just came here to report this. Looking forward to the update!

  • PS. This is a common problem. Lots of apps get around the overhead of polling or similarly distasteful business by including a 'refresh' button on the MIDI ports view. Most of us are used to seeing them at this point.

  • Has anyone been successful in syncing the lfo's to external MIDI clock? I am sending sync to iprophet on my ipad from Ableton and the MIDI button stays lit in iprophet as if it is receiving the signal. I have sync enabled on the lfo's but no setting on either dial syncs to the Ableton click tempo :-/ The synth sounds very cool, though!

  • @mana-any chance that there will be an "INIT"/default setting in the future? I really prefer to make my patches from scratch. It's a minor thing, but I'd imagine it would be easy enough to program.

  • @StormJH1 said:

I've just about had it with trying to use synths of any kind via IAA on my iPad2. It's getting time to replace that device anyway, but pretty much any of the newer synths through IAA in a DAW is a glitchy, stuttering mess. To my knowledge, IAA does not allow you to increase latency, whereas you can increase the frames in AudioBus.

Glad someone else has noticed this with IAA on an ipad2 - thought it was just me!

I tend to avoid anything that's not supporting AB these days.

Played iProphet a little more today and experienced the stuck-low-note-bug a lot when playing 3 or more notes simultaneously and swiping up an down the keyboard :-(

  • @mana

So,any news about the updates?I hope it was not the typical retronyms "say yes to everything in the first 2 weeks (to encourage as many as possible to buy it) but don't give a f*ck afterwards because we already moved on to another shiny product in the works"

  • that is why i didnt buy it... looks like it will not happen

  • If they ever release updates for iMini,iMPC or iProphet already doesn't have an impact about my decision to not buy their upcoming PSD synth or other stuff. But i just couldn't resist having a Prophet V recreation on my iPad.

Good to know that Casio is also working an an Emulation of their old CZ synths ;)
