Good. The dev deserves the money, imo. Koala is a staple of my workflow and I’m sure it’ll be more than worth it. And I’m happy to support the dev.
Oh I’m absolutely buying whatever this IAP is. If it’s a built in fart machine I’d still get it
Would it be a physically modeled SWAM addon? 😂
Any koala update is exciting af - my favorite app. Could it be AU fx integration? Super stoked - the Samurai update was incredible - this one gonna be Shogun?
No longer a rumour.

I honestly never the secret with these things, i find it really hard to get excited about an unknown, curious yes, but excited 🤷♂️ It could be anything, and maybe something that I don’t like, bit like Christmas when you’re no longer a kid 😂
I’m sure it will be something cool, but why not just tell us once you know it’s not going to be impossible to deliver and it works nice enough?
I’m excited to read just your speculation! 🤣 And I'm the guy who uses Koala for something it was not designed for! Haha!
And I only just noticed all my typos 😆
Thanks.. can’t wait…
Curious! Can’t wait to see what this big new update thing is all about, although I’ve been slacking on the Koala usage… maybe this’ll get me back into the groove.
So not about AUv3
What do you mean “not about AUv3”?
Fair play to you! I don't really find it surprising though. Much of the pleasure in addiction comes from building up anticipation for the next fix and then enjoying the release that comes when you actually get it! The unknown element adds spice. Like, imagine being a sex addict and being told that some night soon some really hot and equally horny lady (sorry, I'm going to give this analogy from the perspective of a horny straight male) is gonna knock on your door for a wild one night stand at least, more likely a long term casual thing with no strings attached. And all you have to do is buy her a coffee or two 😂 (couldn't resist trying to squeeze in a coffee analogy here if we're talking about app prices lol). You don't know when she's coming exactly but you know she's coming, she's going to be your type and you're likely in for a great time. What's not to be excited about? 😂
Can't be about hosting auv3s as the update will be for Android, too (assuming both platforms get the same update).
But now we know she’s coming on Tuesday 🤣 and she’s not bringing AUv3 😅
Thing is, we don’t know if it’s that, not a randy donkey or a pope on a rope at this point, just some unknown possibility that something good might be coming. I kinda get that it’s late stage capitalism style nonsense to build anticipation for everything from biscuits to supercars, but tbh I’d rather be treated as an adult 😅
I think koala has enough of a reputation of not implementing randy donkeys so that we can be legitimately exited for an update announced as big!
She ain't packing. That's a relief!
Hahaha, a randy donkey. Thing is, given the dev's previous form, it is likely to be very good isn't it? And even if it isn't, people still enjoyed the days (weeks?! 😂) of fantasising about how good it would be. They don't even have to fork out for it when it does drop if they see a youtube vid on it and decide it's not their thing, and then they'll have the anticipation of the next big exciting drop of whatever to look forward to anyway haha.
But yes, definitely valid to call out the negative side of this kind of marketing and how manipulative it ultimately is. I guess most people like being manipulated, at least in certain ways associated with positive affect
She'll be hung like a donkey? 😂 🎉
And see, reading the other thread just now about iBassist, I can't help but think that Luis missed a trick there. People are stoked, but they'd actually have been more excited and it would have generated more chat if the only news that had dropped was that one of the existing apps was about to get the AUv3 treatment. People would have had more to fantasize and speculate about.
And we can't really blame devs for trying every trick in the book to generate more sales in a field like iOS music apps, where it's so hard to make a buck.
Still, it's hard for the average person to afford food and heating etc, so there is that...
Exactly, one person’s hung donkey is another’s cherry pie… 😅
Edit: I should go down the workshop or for a walk or something 😂
Glad it’s not auv3 hosting. Always brings a load of bugs from the many seemingly different implementations of auv3 there are. I personally always use it hosted as an auv3 anyway unless using a standalone feature like splitting stems.
But I’m trying to think what else would get me excited. Elastique as the timestretch algorithm? Better sampling like in bm3? (I don’t use bm3 but everyone says it’s best sampler on iOS)
This is this same app that randomly introduced a stem splitting feature that no one was really asking for. I’m sure it will be something fun and unexpected
I’m unreasonably excited for this. Koala is easily a top 3-5 app ever for me so anything that somehow improves it, is a biggie for me.
I’m guilty of getting my hopes up despite myself! I’m trying to think what’s “exciting” what’s for both android and iOS and what will cause most people to pay up. As the biggest competitor to koala is the sp404 in terms of workflow.. aesthetics.. niche etc. I think we will see an implementation of some of the features of the sp404 mk2. Now whether that is dj mode, that skip back feature, effects or something else I dunno.
The snug I found on YouTube or wherever was about making koala better for sound design, so maybe we are looking at a rethink of the effects.. effect buses, reordering effects, moar effects etc personally and egocentrically speaking that’s the best possible outcome.
But equally I think it could be a more robust envelope system, LFOs, automation.. stuff like that.
Or even an overhaul of the sequencing side of things… maybe bringing koala closer to an elektron box?
Maybe something completely left-field like a tracker page… bringing koala into untested waters.
It’s all speculation at this point… the beta testers are rightfully staying tight lipped
I guess in 72 hours we will all know
A global play/stop button! That’s what I’m expecting, anything else is extra toppings for me
I looked into the SP404 after hearing it was the inspiration for Koala and I don’t see it. Koala’s sampling is way way better. As far as I could tell (I read the SP404 manual iirc), you can’t instantly sample to a pd, for example.
I’d love a hardware Koala though!
For this release I’m hoping for better options for FX. Imagine if you could choose which pads get routed to which FX. Or if you could swap out, say, the Crush effect pad with an AU. You’d be able to “flip” an FX pad to dial in parameters, but during performance you still just use a single slider.
I’m hoping for a name change. Something a bit more heavyweight… from outer space maybe. Something that would kill a Koala just by exhaling some snot onto it.
Godzoala
(is that a type of cheese though?)
(domain name is available!!!)
This would be great. Of course if AUv3 is part of the equation, the new IAP features would be different between iOS and Android. Maybe automation will also be there.
But the thing I hope for is to be able to drag and drop patterns into some sort of a timeline sequencer like you can in Flip Sampler instead of playing back patterns live. I'd also love to be able to render the sequence of patterns as well. Maybe some sort of automation too (unless I missed something and Koala already has automation).
