As the biggest competitor to koala is the sp404 in terms of workflow.. aesthetics.. niche etc.

I looked into the SP404 after hearing it was the inspiration for Koala and I don’t see it. Koala’s sampling is way way better. As far as I could tell (I read the SP404 manual iirc), you can’t instantly sample to a pd, for example.

I’d love a hardware Koala though!

I could see a fully mapable koala with custom scripts for wxisting hardware would be a very good move condidering the people that use it.. Marek should team up with novation or some hardware manufacturer for a custom midi controller, koala is super big outside just mobile music makers

For this release I’m hoping for better options for FX. Imagine if you could choose which pads get routed to which FX. Or if you could swap out, say, the Crush effect pad with an AU. You’d be able to “flip” an FX pad to dial in parameters, but during performance you still just use a single slider.

This would be great. :) Of course if AUv3 is part of the equation, the new IAP features would be different between iOS and Android. Maybe automation will also be there.

But the thing I hope for is to be able to drag and drop patterns into some sort of a timeline sequencer like you can in Flip Sampler instead of playing back patterns live. I'd also love to be able to render the sequence of patterns as well. :) Maybe some sort of automation too (unless I missed something and Koala already has automation).

Ah yes, a timeline with automation would make a lot of sense actually

A global play/stop button! That’s what I’m expecting, anything else is extra toppings for me

:D seriously, the need to switch tabs to start/stop gets quite frustrating

Yep and I'd pay good money for that particular IAP. :) Well anything @elf_audio has done with Koala is worth the money, but honestly he should charge more money for his app and IAPs. Koala is the best universal sampler app on iOS.

(Some may compare it to BM3 on iPad, but BM3 is iPad only.)

On a 12.9" iPad Pro screen especially! On my iPhone it's just a couple thumb taps away.

I’m hoping for a name change. Something a bit more heavyweight… from outer space maybe. Something that would kill a Koala just by exhaling some snot onto it.

    Godzoala

    (domain name is available!!!)

    😅👍

Koala doesn't have skipback (hoping that's in the update) and a good bit more latency on the pads than its inspiration. Chopping and trimming samples is super fast with the knobs and pitch shifting and fx sounds better. SP is way harder to learn because it doesn't have many menus but alot of shift functions. Apples and oranges really, it costs a 100 times more. A SP is does everything Koala does except for piano roll and stem separation more or less.

3rd ipad. Is just for sample making and triggering. Offload stems to sampler ipad, so I can keep using fav synth on other ipad ( if not essential midi ) The sampler ipad hosts permanent mpe synths also which also sampled or stem triggered.

but its just theory on how best to make use of a sampler ipad. That works with other ipads.

Latency? I feel nothing. I’m rhythm deaf tho 😅

  • I swear if Koala gets a timeline of sorts, I'll probably start using Koala standalone to make my beats with.

The 404 and 303 are classics! Some amazing tracks and albums have been made with those. But I’m after dreaming of one for years and finally getting one last year, I ended up selling it and sticking with the iPad lol. Maybe I’m spoiled by Koala + AUM but you’re right, it’s waaaay easier to work with. And more fun/rewarding (for me personally). BUT I can see why people like it so much.

Imo, DawnBeat is much closer to the 404 workflow than Koala but they both seem to have quite a bit of inspiration taken from Roland/Boss there.

  • I’d never buy a sampler at this point having koala and a midi controller

True this - yeah if it’s automation and a timeline that’ll blow my mind

  • Probably best to use a sampler in a DAW.

  • Super track. Made with koala?

Not me lol. A pro artist. 1st album seems 1999 or something. Different names. Quench. Legiac. Funckarma ( with his bro ) and is Roel Funcken.

Theres better tunes but post this. Think he made for his Dog.

Just been pondering how to gain any technique ( probably from audio tracks ) along with midi in Drambo.

I agree. I bought a 404 last year and ended up selling because I rarely used it. My iPad + koala/Dawnbeat/etc is all I need and I found it much easier to work with as well.

I do miss my OP-1 though, but I used it as way more than a sampler.

  • just a few new features i wish for koala would be..

    1. a sample root note key finder, which for example an option that will help to find out the root key of each chop sample parts that have on each pads that would be a super great feature to have on Koala,

    2. two or four more sets of pads

    3. midi out for the sequncer which will be perfect for those like me who use Aum with Koala, and maybe for those who use hardware equipment

    4. an option on the piano roll sequencer to do note glide, like for example on the bass, which such feature also will work for a slow down record stop fx trick

    5. an automation control option also for the pianoroll sequencer, like for example, have a part where i can automate the pan, or even am fx at a point of the of a beat

That would make Koala Complete for me

As a wise AB Forum Member stated…. “One More Sleep”..😁

  • It's like Christmas eve! Except I'm starting a new teaching job tomorrow... terrified!

  • I don't know how much sleep I will get tonight anticipating what new features are about to drop.

  • 10pm UK time. It’s going to be a late night

Thank you!! It's my first time teaching secondary school kids! It will kill me or make me stronger I guess!!!

  • I have yet to really finish anything in Koala, but @elf_audio is a champ. I will gobble up the IAP just to support at the least.

If it’s clip style sequencing on a timeline a la Auxy/Gadget/Flip Sampler I won’t complain at all :)

I've finished a couple of Ambient pieces and a couple of Lofi HipHop pieces in Koala and live mastered them in AUM. Not gonna lie, I hope it's some sort of timeline sequencing, even if linear, although clip style would be my preferred method in an environment like Koala.
