Oh man. No midi learn in the AUv3. So no external automation at all when used as a plugin. The only reason I purchased it was to use it as a sequencer inside Loopy Pro. I've no interest in it as a standalone host. Fun to play with but not useful beyond that for me really as-is.

Oh well, I'll easily get my $12.99 of entertainment out of it, then likely set it back on the shelf until if/when those features show up. No regrets, I sort of expected it would go that way.

I'll exit now not to dampen the mood. Kudos on the release! It is a very impressive accomplishment.

@lukesleepwalker thanks for your feedback...probably the piano roll still needs some love. Since I thought about a maximum of 4 bars I supposed that double tap to delete 1 bar notes at time was fast enough...if I will increase the bars surely I need to think about a gesture to remove all notes in the clip all together.

I can add a OMNI option to record all midi channels simultaneously...

The ghost note probably is a note with a very small length...you hear on every scene because when you switch to an empty scene it will inheri notes from the previous scene. Did you try double tapping on bar 1 and on bar 2 to remove all notes?

Thanks for considering the affordances in the piano roll—they will help! With regards to the ghost note: I have tried to replicate the issue and cannot, so it must have been user error. I am getting used to the inheritance thing with scenes—would you consider making that a setting rather a default? Or at least a default with a setting to turn it off?

Thanks @ElliottGarage is the invite link somewhere in the thread?
[edit] nvm. Found it. Search surprised me and actually helped.

This is possibly my fault for bigging it up as a loopy pro sequencer 😬

These days I use LP for idea generation so I just need a quick way to get some midi going with as few obstacles as possible. For this Nodes is bang on.

Nope. I'm glad I went for it. Drambo will remain the sequencing workhorse for now, but this will provide plenty of creative fun and inspiration.

    Good.

It’s early days and there’s definitely more to come from this app.

  • Agreed on midi learn for standalone and AU.

Noticed that if I add more 15-16 nodes, the right hand list of AUs is not scrollable

  • I don't know if this has already been mentioned. But the chord type selections I see for Note/Chords and Arpeggio nodes include two Min-7 choices. Shouldn't there be just one? It's also missing Min 6 and Min7b5 choices, which seem like important chords to me.

Small thing, but the '-' in many of the names, Maj-6, Dom-7, etc. is a little offputting for me. There are many ways to write chord names, but I don't know of any chord notation that has a dash in those chord names. And the '-' creates some unnecessary confusion because '-' is often used to denote minor chords. I would prefer to see the names written like Maj7, Min7, Dom7, etc.

I am trying to record notes into the piano roll node using Xequence AU keyboard in the midi fx node. The piano roll is receiving midi but just not recording what I’m playing on the Xequence. I have also tried using KB-1 and same issue. Is there a way of using Auv3 midi keyboards to record into nodes?

I caved as soon as I found out it can also be an Au midi sequencer, as well as a standalone AU host. Really like it so far. Your videos were also very helpful, so definitely check those out for some good guides in a relatively short time. Congrats on the release @ElliottGarage honestly a really cool app, and quite an achievement as well. It was at #2 or #3 in US App Store paid music when I bought it several hours back, just so you know…

    Quick Request @ElliottGarage

    1. One thing I was hoping to see added in a future update would be the ability to save the note you select on the keyboard for the generative harmony or melody node, inside each pattern node, just like the rest of the pattern nodes save their information from each pattern. That would be super cool, you could have it generating in D3 in pattern 1, but in G3 on pattern 2, or whatever…

    2. A second thing would be to add swing to the generative node as well. It be great if the gen node had swing to “keep up” with the other nodes. If it’s possible. Also this might be a big ask, I’m not a coder, but a global swing that swings all nodes would be cool too. Just a thought on the global.

    Couple Quick questions for anyone…

    1. Can you use midi to toggle the melody/harmony, and the node generation speed inside the generative node? Maybe in the manual, guess I’ll check. I was getting some great results by physically switching between the two modes Melody/Harmony, and changing between the different generative speeds, and even rhythmically toggling the generative instrument on and off, to play at certain points and add some space.

    2. Can you only have chord per pattern when using the note/chord module?

    3. Does anyone know how to overwrite a preset?

Yea the ability to use as an Au sequencer sold me. So… will it work with AUM midi learn? Or is there no external mapping when using Nodes as an AU inside another host?

Not yet, but I'm very confident that midi learn will be added in the AUv3 soon. @ElliottGarage is keen to give the AUv3 some love.

Curious what kind of things you want to control Wim - triggering different nodes etc?

Toggling nodes on and off, changing scenes, the “volume” slider which scales midi velocity … basically the stuff that can be midi mapped in the standalone but obviously doesn’t relate to plugins since they can’t be hosted in the AUv3 version.

Ah yes, those sliders in particular would be useful to control from a controller, all that stuff you mentioned actually, cheers

I did join the discord, but first time using that and I found discord to be a nightmare to my eyes, so quickly came off it. I will post my only suggestion here. While I could ask for many things, the most desired by myself would be a way of recording individual nodes all at once during jamming on the app.

This would make this app the ideal ideas scratch pad for starting tracks. The Nodes is so easy to bung a few sections together and switch on and off nodes as you jam. To have audio stems to then put in a DAW would make this app indispensable to myself.

If this feature already exists, then 'Doh!'

Wishing you and your better half the best with the birth of number 2 son, or speedy paper work if adopting :)

  • First app update on the store 1.0.4

    • Fixed MIDI internal routing not being recorded in piano roll
    • Fixed SUS-4 and MIN-6 chord
    • Fixed mixdown crash
    • Fixed crash on devices with iOS previous to 16.4

@Poppadocrock you're right...I'm adding scene saving (and swing) for generative node parameters too

  • Any chance we'll get an audio node?

  • @Ailerom I have already some ideas about it...anyway here you can make requests https://eg-nodes.canny.io :)

  • Can someone post the following suggestions for features on the site (if they have not already), as I am seemingly unable to log in anymore:

Individual node record: ability to record all nodes separately and at the same time during a jamming session, so that audio stems are available.

Main key and scale manipulation: ability for a midi node to alter the main key and note, or ability to save a different main key and note per scene.

Thanks if anyone can help :)

Yeah, I bumped into this one, too, though I can see the value of being choiceful about listening and "printing" each lane. Still, there are times when it would be cool to just throw it all against the wall as a starting point (happy accidents, etc).

I also wonder about a "universal record button" that would allow for recording all nodes at once. I found myself looking for that option several times in my tinkering. I also use Nodes mostly as an AU MIDI app in Loopy Pro so having MIDI learn will be essential for me eventually (though I'm still in immersion mode as I learn the tool).

After several hours, I offer my congratulations @ElliottGarage. You've certainly got something here that has a lot of value right from the start and has a bunch of further potential. Could I do everything that Nodes does in another tool? Yes. But the UX is intuitive and reduces the friction points that make musicking a chore rather than a joy. There are several rough spots that have been mentioned but nothing that I've seen that would suggest the core of the product has major flaws. Well done! (And best wishes with child #2!)

I have noticed a bug while recording piano roll using third party auv3 keyboards like KB-1 or Xequence AU, the notes are being recorded but not being played back in real time. The only way to hear or visualise what you have recorded is to press stop button/ stop playing and hit play again back and forth. No issues whilst using internal nodes keyboard.

Recording from other keyboards, Scaler 2 connects and records fine. Chordjam does connect but Unfortunately doesn’t record ( whilst playing the keys/ keyboard on those plugins).

(Edit) Chorjam works, just needed enabling destinations inside Chordjam settings. Only issue in Chordjam is crashing constantly

Hold down the control note button (to the right of the swing button) and then tap on a lane that you wish to randomize.. let go of control note button and tap the dice button (above the steps button).. repeat with different lanes.. can’t randomize all lanes at once yet..

I’d love to be able to shift these randomizations forward or back (1 step at a time) in order to align things to the downbeat if needed.

    Noice! Thanks for the hint.
Any chance to have different speed per lane?
