What is the Line Select Knob A,B,C & D referring to?

    Those are filters

Btw @HotStrange - those performance buttons - Phase Hit etc - are all exposed as AUv3 parameters, I just checked

Thanks! Glad to see they’re exposed so there’s a way to modulate. I’m assuming those take the place of the patch points on the actual hardware. I’m about to watch Hainbachs new video on the plugin to getter a better view of everything. So far though, I’m loving it. Really fun.

The tweet I posted earlier has a 1300 word walkthrough on this, very useful I think

You can actually format and post text here too, e.g I just did. (I boycott X)

Yep, X is tarnished goods. Please post it here too @Gavinski !

Actually, I also put it in my YouTube pinned comment

    Nice work 👍

Cheers! Yeah , this interview is nice. More interview sbuggets to come!

    I love a good snugget

It’s funny because I meant to type it the way you did at first “sbuggets” but my phone autocorrected it to snuggets. I guess it learned the word finally 😆

  • Did a kind of sci-fi thing using noises and lines and Gauss looping lines and rymdigare. This app is gonna become a fixture for me.

Ha thanks!! Yeah a floating nic cage! The ultimate

  • I my me! I only just noticed the "rhythms" and "scapes" presets!! Got so caught up in the Basic ones that I failed to even notice these, ha!

  • I wonder what the function of the original unit was. The description says ‘It mimics the „worst case“ for message transmission’, but why does it mimic this?

Good question, 😂. Thing is if you listen to my interview, there is basically no documentation about it extant apart from some patent apparently. But I guess it was used to improve things on the receiving end? Like basically create a system that can handle and improve low message quality? Really not sure tho

I can see it being used to test lines and speakers and such with jittery unstable signals and see how they would perform? Perhaps in a convoluted way to compare it to faulty lines and pinpoint the type of transmission failures 😄

  • @Gavinski @hghon These explanations most certainly makes sense. It’s a mysterious box. Maybe it can communicate with ghosts too, have to try it tonight with an ouija board :)

There were a few manufacturers of units like this. The idea was to test early modems which used sound via landlines to transmit data. Something like this:

Heh, me too. I swore I’d skip Mantis, then bought it. Same with Minibit, which I ended up springing for last night!

Haha I was the same way with Mantis, especially since I already had Ratshack. But then I saw a demo of it and it wore me down. I have them all now 😆

Is it different to rat shack?

@wingwizard Rat Shack is way more limited, a simple thing. Mantis is a full delay with much more complexity to it.

Ratshack is cool as hell, though. And very cheap. When you need that “alcoholic, 2 packs of Marlboro a day, works at an about-to-close skating ring as an announcer” sound there’s nothing like it.
    Just get it too!.

  • What do you recommend if you already have that sound, and need to get a golden-throated 50s beauty pageant announcer sound?

Something from Eventide for that “cocaine hangover” feel 🥳

This. I actually find myself using Ratshack more though I love both and I’m glad I have both. Ratshack has just been a personal favorite for a long while now.

Same here! It’s a pretty unique effect. The sum of its parts is anyway. I love it over acoustic instruments. Especially organ and piano so far. Also pairs well with their other app, Noises.

Even as an instrument it’s just excellent. And it gets sufficiently weird and spooky which is perfect for the season 😂

Doesn't look like we will get another silent movie soundtrack out for Halloween (Synthi has been in touch btw - he's great and was very happy with Metropolis btw, he's just been super busy). But we should maybe put together a little album of spooky 'non music' and sell it on Bandcamp or something, perhaps for charity? (cue massive forum argument over which charity it goes to 😂 😂 😂). If anyone fancies taking on that job, feel free to make a thread on it. I could contribute but don't have time to organise.

Not also an effect, but Tera Pro, esp the BrainZ module is excellent for creating glitchy experimental noise sounds
