Favourite horror movie soundtracks / scores? Raising a hand here for Berberian Sound Studio, Werner Herzog's Nosferatu, Mandy, The Omen

If you asked me that question I’d have a hard time answering - I tend not to pick up on soundtracks generally, unless they’re exceptional (a non-horror one that immediately springs to mind is Neil Young’s soundtrack for Dead Man, which is one of my favourite films, too). But the Popol Vuh soundtrack for Nosferatu is amazing. Oddly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the film itself.

Ah, the film is beautiful too.

  • count me in. i love evil dissonant sound design stuff.

I’ll raise my hand as a maybe in the hope it will also give me an excuse to put a finished piece together.

I love the industrial noise and found sounds in Eraserhead and the OG Texas Chainsaw.

  • I’m definitely in. I’ll start working on it tonight 🥳 I’m stoked

  • I’m in.

  • If orchestral spookiness is welcome, I would definitely enjoy cooking a little something !

I don't remember the music from these but they're both amazing movies in their own ways. Quality horror is one of my favourite genres, pity there is just so little of it (to my taste).

Edit: Also, yes, just to be clear, I'm in unless something comes up that makes it impossible time wise. There seems to be no need to cap the contributor numbers this time, unlike with the movie soundtracks.

    1. By -1db truepeak, do you mean -1db headspace? (I'm glad Barricade has truepeak mode lol.)

    2. Where should I upload to? Would uploading to my DropBox in .wav format and PMing you the link work?

    3. May I also upload to Soundcloud, or is this exclusive only? :) (It won't be a part of my Koala EP, not to worry.)

I personally don't see any reason to force people to only have their piece available in the album, I reckon people should be allowed to put it wherever they like, it's their track and nobody is making any money from this anyway.

This is true, and I feel the same. I'm not making money from creating music. My "payment" is enjoying what I make and sharing with others. It's the kind of feeling money can't buy.

  • I’ve updated the original post with all the details.

Other important stuff… name and artwork? We can keep it simple like “ABF horror music compilation” or something like that, or give it a cool spooky name? Also artwork?

  • I like the old English word “Egesung” which means “a terrible act” or “dread”. Also there’s a kind of musical link with “sung” in it. :)

That's pretty cool, don't think I know that word.

We have loads of digital artists here I think, maybe people could submit some artwork and ppl could vote to decide which one gets used?

I’m a die hard horror nerd and I even love the bad ones so I’m always pretty happy with the state of scary movies lol but yes those are 2 of my favorites. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Spoorlos are amazing as well.

Saw the first one so long ago I could watch it again and probably would be like watching it fresh. The other one I haven't heard of, thnx.

Last House on the Left is worth a mention!

  • Super stoked to hear what everyone comes up with! The last project was fantastic!

If you end up watching it, lemme know. The ending is a gut punch for sure.

Last House on the Left is also excellent. Especially for its time.
