I think the old girl is still doing well (what? you didn't know that online communities were feminine like ships and cars and sausage rolls?), but like all life, she won't last forever, thus enjoy while able etc.
i wasn’t much active in recent weeks but just because i was hardcore overloded in work … i feel same vibe when i read discussions, same good people and same very few trolls .. in general no change, i am perfectly ok with current stage … still great place to hang out in free time and discuss first class world problems like how good sounds filter or what “crucial” feature is missing in DAW X 🤣
tldr; love you (almost) all guys/girls, lovely community in general 😂
I’m genuinely not sure whether that was just an elaborate way of taking the piss out of my post or a way of trying to be sincerely inclusive @gusgranite?
@Gavinski, this thread of yours asks about the vibe of this forum. All i have done is give you an impression of it as a newcomer here, that’s all.
New threads are now on page 7. gusgranite is on pages 1-6. My vibe is irritated.
Put some cream on it otherwise you’ll have sore misgivings.
Sounds legit 🔥
Definitely no intention to mock in any way!
It was just a daft goodwill gesture to not leave any threads of recent months lingering without any comments.
I’m going to keep more of an eye out for ignored threads going forward but no more big blasts… 🙂
Oh yeah, I don’t mind at all! I just genuinely don’t agree, at least not as far as my own attitude goes. I genuinely think you just got unlucky with your posts being ignored, but I definitely don’t have any problem with you stating that you felt ignored as a new member, I think it is useful for people to hear that.
Ah, cool, thanks for clarifying! Cheers.
Cool, good to hear. Cheers.
I would say the same as Gav - it’s likely to be down to anyone who has answers or comments not being online and the post quickly dropping down as others are posted. You can always bring them back to the top with a comment on your own post to bump it back to the top.
I have sometimes just missed posts that I would definitely have commented on if I had seen them. I certainly haven’t ever ignored posts because I don’t recognize the poster.
hahahaha
I think @gusgranite did it for all the right reasons… more power to your elbow, index finger or whatever appendage you use to hit the keyboard 😊
Not that I've noticed.
I check here now and then but over the years I got experienced enough at coding as a hobby to pick up a day job in that field and so now I have to think about code all day then run out to gigs/rehearsals rather than getting up at 10:30 and messing around with music tech until going out to play gigs for money in the evenings. Playing and releasing more original and creative music than ever though so not all bad
Prague a couple of weeks ago:
Again, thanks for clarifying. Cheers.
If just a few people developed this habit you wouldn’t find a thread without a comment after a few pages.
I like to do this in creations because so many listen but have nothing to reply… the creator that watches a track slide away gets the wrong message. Every time I find one and think of a helpful comment it gets a 2nd chance. It’s also good to ask the creator a question about the work.
Over a few years I have developed a positive feedback loop with like minded creators and it helps me get a response that’s often beyond generous because karma is earned.
In other words, I give and get back more in the end. Try it. You will enjoy the forum a lot more when you invest in people and their art. Seek commonality but also take an interest in genres you know little about… “who’s great at finger drumming and what apps or hardware do you use?”
Pet peeve: members who feel the need to post "me too", or "I have the plug in too" or "can't wait" or "instabuy" etc etc. in Every. Single. Topic. Every. Single. Day. Beyond the recent GG spam. Definitely clutters up trying to find actual useful information. As this post does...
Me too.
Oops…
(Sorry, couldn’t resist)
I can understand and relate, but I also see the other side in that…more activity can lead to more activity. Even if it’s a low content reply, it can inspire others to post.
I think a lot of people lurk here. But I believe that they probably would add substance to the forum if they actually started posting.
And the struggle to find useful info on this forum is an entirely different issue in my opinion. The search has rarely given me a good result.
I like this place.
I’d participate more but I’ve lost interest in iOS music stuff.
Mind I ask why?
I can identify with the comments that it can seem a little cliquey here, I have felt that at times.
Funnily enough, I have a running joke with myself that every time I reply to something, I think to myself, let's see if I can kill this thread by commenting (hah!) but for me the reality is on a forum, threads get buried fast and it's nothing to do with your input, it's just the nature of the medium and competing other posts.
That said, I've seen occasional posters reply and then a forum regular replies and everyone thanks the regular for the solution, I think that sometimes leans into the feeling of this clique thing but I think it's the familiarity people have with regular posters, you guys are great and trusted.
Which leads me to the point. This place is full of talented, passionate, experienced and helpful people.
Personally I enjoy it more since the off topic stuff was parked. Those threads were, for me, quite distressing to read and occasionally triggering (yeah, I can choose not to read them but you don't know till it's too late!). To be honest, it put me off this place for a while, a place that I found in 2020 as a new iOS hobbyist music maker.
I've seen people who I thought were trouble makers grow and become more considerate with their posts and the core helpfulness, diversity and passion is still here and this is why I still come back to read everyday.
I don't feel a change in vibe that much, but since the Logic's release, which did generate a lot of negativity despite it's awesomeness (imo, ignoring the sub), maybe this place has attracted personalities that come from a different place?
To be honest, I don't think anything needs to change, if things feel a bit different, it's probably just a cycle of change I guess. Like I said, the reason I still read this community is because of the diversity, open mindedness and passion that you don't get elsewhere.
Yes! It didn’t really have any positive benefits here, and there are plenty of other places online if anyone wants to have that type of discussion.
It’s definitely better when people don’t start posting their opinions on non-music related things.
A few reasons.
I have a love/hate relationship with the touch screen. I find it great sitting on the couch, terrible on a desk/mount/stand. I will continue to use the apps I have, but it’s more leisure at this point and not something I want to put any more money into.
👍
I know people tend to associate this with “social media”, but I’ve found “reactions” to be a real boon in Slack at work and in Discord with my friends. They replace low-content messages and help encourage some feedback that would be skipped because it would be low-content that someone would feel isn’t worthy of a message.
Many times here I’ve wanted to give a thumbs-up and been sad that I can’t without posting a message, which would then have to also include a quote to be clear about what I was responding to. And when I do post a message, it would be nice to know if it was well-received by anyone even if they didn’t have much to say in response.
When it comes to how to improve the vibe, lightweight feedback like this could go a long way towards helping each of us to figure out how to improve our contributions.
@fisherro I wish I could like your post. Completely agree. Very good points. And I’ve also felt the same many times.
Fair enough. I do use iPad for works but I can definitely see it being a pain when using on a desk for extended periods of time.
Yes, let's keep it about the music, I reckon... the political Off Topic threads were almost certainly contributors to increased division and disharmony here. Well meant, and I enjoyed them and participated at times, but by the time they got the axe it was already pretty clear they should have been axed long before.
@Gavinski Wow, I didn’t know all that happened. I took a few years break from this place, so I missed all of this drama.
I’m actually kind of glad lol
