So, I got STRNG- ran it thru all of my midi generators and it all sounded like shit, unless I use an actual controller. weird right?

So I loaded it up in MidiStep and it sounds absolutely incredible. I'm not certain why midisteps excelled where the other generators failed.

I haven't tried it in Harmonicer yet- but anyone have a similar experience with STRNG? Like I was super dissapointed, until I heard it in midisteps. Maybe it's hard to get lush sounds with it, I dunno. I usually use MODAL for string stuff.

I’ve never gotten s t r n g to sound good lol. Everytime I open it I end up disappointed again. Kind of just let it gather digital dust at this point.

Really isn't well designed, even for what it is. Hard to play, poorly calibrated envelope, etc. Sad consolation prize for missing the tardigrain sale, lol. Gawd I wish I would just watch a Doug vid before buying something. That's what he's there for!

$9 total in pointless trinkets isn't too bad I guess for the season, though I should've taken the forum's advice and just bought one cool thing like MidiStep, or for gawd sakes Hilda.

I’m not great with hearing envelopes but it’s something I hear often in music related threads about apps and I would love to know how to hear a good one compared to a…. Less than good one. If you have any tips or somewhere to point I’d appreciate it. I suppose I could duck duck go it but my minds a blank on what to search 😅

Man good rule of thumb for Bram is just get any of the apps your even semi interested in of his and call it even lol. Hell I got Fluss without a huge interest in it and I have 0 regrets. Lovely instrument. Someone gifted me Ruismaker Noir which was super kind and I’ve been lost in that app for hours, all in all his apps are priced appropriately imo- I bought Mononoke in September and Hammerhead in October haha. But legit no worries cause of the quality and what I’ve been able to get creatively out of them.

In all honesty only gotten 2 of his apps on sale.. Hilda last year and I think I paid $1 less for Salome than it is now and truthfully I have never regretted paying full price for it. One of the rare purchases I can say that for in this music plugin ecosystem.

He’s one of a kind gem of an app developer and we’re lucky to have him!

You can do cool things with s t r n g! Get some awesome percy plucks and pads. Play the high and low end of the keyboard on each tweak you make and they will be a lot different.
Tighten the strings, mess with the noise length until its a tight pyramid and add some delay , it can do some cool sounds but it isn’t the best app he made. Shape synth is a great one tho

Set it up like this and play octave 5/6 and its nice n clicky, then play low octaves for some noisy dusty bassy piano

After that raise the attack a lil bit for some more cool keys

Alright I put strng on my homepage and I will mess about with this tomorrow morning and see what I can get. Thanks for the tips 🤟🏽🙏🏽

For sure! Its the kinda synth you have to get weird with and kinda not think about how you control other synths but think of it as something different other wise the sounds are kinda meh. Do weird shit and see if it takes it some place nice

  • @ejacul337 said:
Speaking of esoteric, I was hoping to get Moloch Vox and that other esoteric synth shit dude has. The design reminds me of those custom midi controllers on Etsy.

    I'll post some STRNG w/ Harmonicc X'amples

    Here is said X:

Here is STRNG w/Midistep. Just hit random and tweaked string tension.

It sounds so much better, both example are just stock StRnG with the two generators. triggering strummed chords is where strng seems best.

I look at it as an industrial string.

Update: Actually it sounds best with Autony. I'll post another example- but sound much better than the onboard keyboard. The controls are kinda weird, a lot like k-devices controls.

Look at AUtony running like a pro:

Damn I really only said post a vid cause I see you do that on here and you were like “bet” and got em up lol. Cheers.

I agree with the industrial vibe and yeah it sounds best with autony _ I’ll try messing with some settings and use some sequencers on it and see what I can get going.

For sure man! It can get some good sounds but it still is pretty limited. I’ve used it in maybe 2 jams total but i did like what i got from it. Its def limited tho but finding the sweet spots helps. And using all lfo controls

Is Radiooooo worth it? You can do a similar thing with Samplette

  • Samplette is great for jacking gospel, Bollywood and stuff. How do u use it? Just link to the YouTube and rip it?

I see people trying to copy bbl drizzy using Hindi shit, Kanye and Pharrell already appropriated and re-landscaped that Nash.

    https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTYyRSfKN/

That said, love sampling Louis FarAkahn and the story of Yacub.

Radiooooo is free actually unless you subscribe for more options (5/month). Since you can’t use it as an auv3 (shout out to RadioAU who does), it’s a bit less useful for the production itself. I use it more as inspiration. It’s on my front page to remind me to become a better producer I need to also be a better listener.

The music on there is curated imo opinion better and with more easy ways to explore than say Apple Music at 3x the price. So yea, I love it actually.

I don’t use it much, but when I do, I try to dig for albums from tracks I find on there. This is often impossible though, so I do end up just ripping straight from YouTube. A few well known underground hip hop producers are ripping straight from YouTube, so no shame in it. I’m just old, lol..
