Sorry, I’m missing something I think. Where’s Memphis to buy? The ms20 is one of the ones I’m really after. Do you need to buy standalone iMS20 to unlock it or something?

That's right, in order to unlock 'Memphis' iMS-20 purchase is needed and it will NOT for now be available as AUv3 until Korg updates the stand-alone app.

Personally I'm waiting for the iM1(Darwin) and iWavestation(Milpitas) to get AUv3's support as those are the only Gadgets I feel a 'connection' with, the others will be 'nice to haves'.

  • @AndyPlankton On the play screen use the GATE TIME control to change arp speeds and pattern types😊👍

Yep. The big two. Can’t wait. Might have to take the day off when that happens.

  • I’m a bit wary of updating my phone to Gadget 3 but I don’t want to cause any disastrous cloud save clashes with my iPad which is on Gadget 3. Which gadgets can’t we get on iPhone for now, the transferring thing isn’t working anymore is it? Cheers.

Great Update/Upgrade and also free.. nothing to complain, well done Korg!! Love that it still works on my old ipad air 2.
The only thing which could be a bit better is the sidney-sampler-performance.
Quite high in cpu usage.. can imagine that the reason for this might be also, that its not possible to turn off the separate loops. For example, a loop i use in blocs wave is at a cpu usage of 4%. the same loop in sidney uses around 35%

Nothing to worry abou too much.. i still use blocs wave until i have a new ipad one day ;-)

Another cool feature would be to be able to mark specific midi regions as bass, synth, chord etc. and then create a "genre-template" from this

I’ve updated to version 3 on my iPhone without any problem, the mentioned gadgets Darwin and Memphis (iM1 and iMS20) function normally.
So if you already had Gadget installed on your phone you should be alright.

Cheers Doug, not quite the number of options on the timing I’d like, but hey, you can’t have everything 😂

  • I agree with you @Samu. iM1 and iWavestation are the 2 I’m most excited for.

Regarding Gadget though, how does everyone like Stockholm? I’ve had all the other sampler Gadgets for years now but never gave that one a try. Does it offer anything vastly different besides playing Rex files? Also is there an easy way to get Rex files via iPad.

I’m glad they finally added velocity sensitivity to the on screen play surface, but disappointed you can’t change chord types. Also very disappointed the erase button didn’t make a return. However the new sound browser is very very welcome, new fx interface is great. Probably won’t use Auv3 but good job for that. A no brainer function to add would be loading genre patterns as needed into an existing project. The whole interface looks and feels better. Is Santa Anna worth it ?

As a guitar player I find Santa Anna sounds extremely fake. Let your ears be the judge.

I do wonder if some random midi note velocity would improve the fakeness.

It's all up to the included loops I would say. They're a little to short to include enough variations in articulation for my taste.
I'm using Stockholm with really good REX guitar loops that I cherry-picked by my own taste, sometimes I'd even fire up good ol' ReCycle and slice my own.

Any tips on where to get those sweet REX files?

  • I refuse to believe Rosario and Durban aren't going to be AUv3.
It doesn't make any sense whatsoever that the FX gadgets can't be used as uh.. FX.. on an input.

  • Anybody else find them very crashy in NS2? I touch anywhere on them and it’ll crash most times.

    There's an app for that.

  • So.. close.. to perfection. I almost entirely used the IAPs by the end of my Gadget run. But I for once choose to hope that they have that next on their to do-list. Great to see Gadget 2 is alive, Korg is my favourite of the big synth companies and has been for some years. They keep innovating, not just making stuf bigger or smaller. Way to go Korg!

No problem here (iOS 17.2 -- iPad Pro M1/11). Recife gave some strange screen but I just reloaded it and it was fine. Now, I have not done that many minutes in NS2 yet but so far so good.

They work fine for me. What you are describing sounds like what happened to me when I initially loaded a Gaget AUv3. It appeared to crash, with a spinnig wheel, and the words “Loading (AUv3) editor…” It seems to take forever. Eventually it loads. A Restart might have been involved as well.

I’ve a project I’m working on where I added an instance of Lisbon and Wolfsberg ok. Admittedly I bounced their output to audio asap and unloaded them so they weren’t around for long, but as an exercise they both worked fine without crashes.

    I’m on iphoneXR running ios17.0.3

  • Was tempted by Gadget 2 and now with gadgets been AUv3 I went for it 😅

There is no way however to create project templates, correct?

    Thanks

    Thanks

Gadget manages projects very nicely, create the file you wish you use as 'template' and save it.

Open the 'template' and work on it as you wish, the original 'template file' will not be over-written when you quit or close Gadget as you will always be working on a copy of the original until you manually overwrite it. This makes it easy to revert to the last saved project in case one messes up by simply opening it again.

I've created an empty 'render' project I use for creating loops sampler fodder with just a few instruments, eq settings effects etc. so I can use the 'template' as I wish without fear of trashing it.

    Nice one! Thanks
So basically, just work on it and if I decide to keep it I just "Save As" 👍

I have to say that in terms of UX, gadget has quite a few little nice features! (maybe with the exception of that "flick" gesture that was mentioned in previous posts )

CORRECTION: Gagdet AUv3 are NOT working fine for me in NS2 IF I use the Gadget keys. If I select a preset in Miami (or any other synth) and just play the NS2 keyboard, I get sounds as expected. If I try to play AUv3 keys or pad it crashes with “Loading Miami editor…” Are the Gadget AUv3s working normally in other DAWs?

It has been a while since I used Gadget. Anyone know if and where you set the arp speed for the arp in the play screen ?

It hast “types” that are a mixture between speed and rhythms

  • Not sure if mentioned already, but I stumbled upon undo/redo history by holding the button.

I just wish they added 'quantize selection' since it's pretty tedious to manually snap every note to the grid after an unquantified recording...

  • Sorry if this has been answered but this thread got massive really fast!.
I owned Gadget but never really clicked with it. The one thing I did enjoy was how it auto-mapped to my Korg nanokey studio, nice and easy.
Is that the case with the auv3 version?. Are the controls nicely mapped to the knobs and controls of the Nanokey Studio?. Cheers!.

I don't think so. This is a function called "Native Mode" that works inside KORG Gadget, automatically matching your controller and Gadget's controls.
However, in AUv3, the daw host (Garage Band, Cubase, etc) is the midi boss and will not make it for you.

Not exactly. The standalone Gadget integration is deeper than just matching up CC's. It's a native mode that dynamically configures the NKS and changes with the plugins used. There's not a "native" mode with plugins. That's not possible because the host has control. However, the plugins have a really nice representation of the CC mapping front and center, and remapping them is a breeze. Just tap the parameter and move a knob. Done. It's the best implementation of CC mapping I've seen.

There's also the AUv3 parameter mapping route as well.
