Hi. Interesting that it has a DX engine in the device. Does anyone know if soundmondo works- ie if the sounds are compatible?
If not perhaps yamaha could do this in an update. There are hundreds of DX sounds. I use soundmondo on my modx and its really useful.

Hey @am1001 i did some research for you. There is no seqtrak on the list of devices on sound mondo at this point. So naturally any transfer of files is not possible. Anyway, i got curious if reface DX patches can be imported in a traditional form. I'm have downloaded reface DX factory samples but after drag & dropping one of the files to seqtrak, the seqtrak app stopped responding. That's my experience on windows. Perhaps someone on Mac could manage it. As for the DX engine, you can check a few screenshots with Synth sound design i have posted earlier, and decide by yourself if this is the full DX engine. Cheers

I couldn't care less about bundled samples. Worst is when they can't be deleted. I'm buying a machine to make my own content with, not sound like everyone else with cheesy and/or generic preset packs.

Another good/fair point. And I’m the same way, I prefer to use and make my own (though it’s nice to have some factory drum sounds).

What I was referring to above was the plugins themselves. Akai advertises having all these full blown synths and drum machines in their MPCs but it doesn’t ship with them. You have to make an account, restore an SD card, update, and then download and import the plugins. Such a PITA for something that should just be there.

It wasn't like this when I got a first MPC One. It was ready to rock out of the box. But Akai added a lot of software products for MPC since then. Of course they had to built anti piracy protection. It's quite similar with NI Maschine+. But syncing of the content is more or less automatic. You just need to log in to your NI account on the device.

The seqtrak only has four operatior fm so no.

  • @israelite : Does the seqtrack have a built in arpeggiator?

  • I was all gassed up when this was announced. After doing a little research I stopped my preorder from Sweetwater. The price is great but for me it’d be something that probably wouldn’t get enough use. If I didn’t already own a bunch of gear that I still need to spend time getting to know better than I would probably get this thing. If someone doesn’t have too much hardware I’d say go for it. It seems pretty neat.

Was also searching for an info regarding this. So far there is none but it is designed to have one. I guess that's reserved for a future firmware update.

I would love to hear what it was like back in those golden days of yore

Yeah that kind of thing is definitely annoying. The 707 has all the factory stuff loaded, though if you want to buy and install any Zen Core packs you need to do it after the fact. The worst is Push 3 Standalone for me so far. Any additional packs you install need to be downloaded and installed one by one, and after you install each one it dumps you out of the list of packs available requiring more navigating. It takes AGES.

Good point. The larger your sample collection becomes, the more it becomes a challenge navigating through them, even more if they're organized by packs instead of by instrument types and styles.
I'm still trying different approaches, including audio features analysis and AI, to make the process of finding samples much more straightforward.
I'm sure we'll see new and better tools on this front soon 😉

It was very straightforward, just plug and play. But also the device was quite "bare" in comparison to the collection of software it can be loaded into it now.
It was pretty much only factory selection samples, Electric, Bassline and Tubesynth. There was even no Drum Synth in the first firmware versions.

What was cool: you could download additional free expansions in desktop MPC software version. And there have been a few of these... And just drag and drop the folders with expansions to an SD card and it was then accessible on standalone MPC One. It was a lot of samples (!) But at the end I sold the machine since I didn't like the synths sound signature. Came back to ipad instead😁

@Telstar5 update: there is an ARP but so far only accessible via the app (and only for Synth & DX tracks)

A that’s a shame. Having the arp to use with the samples would be super fun.

Yeah but is there any hardware sampler that has ARP functionality?

Not that I can recall. I can you send midi over USB? If that’s the case it’s really a non issue since there are so many midi arp plugins

Now that I think about it the OP-1 kinda does as well.

The best thing. Jeans tag has a custom PCB board on top, not connected to anything and without function... Yamaha engineers 😂

This made me laugh so hard. Whaaaaat?! Lolll

Is this what the little fabric is bolted onto?!! Whyyyyy???

These epoxy PCBs are easy to add when you're having more PCBs produced anyway, drilled holes included.
And that tiny pcb used for fixing the tag (which I had thought was an SD card for samples when I saw it on the first official pic 😂) will outlast the whole Seqtrak for sure!

    ARP for samples?

  • Yep, if you sample something and assign it to a Tone track, you can then use the arp to play it.

I was ACTUALLY thinking about this before the op-z went on sale for 450

  • Thanks @israelite : BoBeats has a new video out on Seqtrack.

  • Who had both the op-z and this? Whcih did you prefer and why. ?

The only similarities between these two devices is lack of display. When Seqtrak is very intuitive and a joy to use, opz is very complicated and you need to spend time initially to find out how it works.

  • You can’t load your own apples into it via iOS..You need an actual lap/desktop
Dealbreaker and this isn’t the kind of thing that usually gets updated..

I wonder why they've placed a textile tag instead of an SD card slot at the rear...

There is already first firmware update. Hopefully the app will be also updated and sample import added.

The time has come to customize the machine. I must say that a simple 3D printed knob adds +100% to ergonomics of it's use.
I do understand that factory knobs look good but I ask myself a question why ergonomy was not a priority when designing knobs on the seqtrak?

And after putting a bit bigger knobs in the orange section, the spacing between knobs is super tight. This machine should be at least 10% bigger.
