Obviously not into refined classical literature either. 😉

Oh. Sorry, you're correct on both! Although I do live very close to the British, geographically 😉

:) you're correct, but I think I would find the experience of writing around limitations of hardware in a very necessarily simple, down-to-earth language far less frustrating than writing around "artificial" limitations.

(fun fact: I have written games and other stuff in assembly, but for the x86 architecture. But that's a mess in its own right!)

  • Apple just approved the likely final Beta before release! This should fix the last remaining issues.

Thanks so much for the support! 🥳 And let's hope for reasonable sales so Meow can have a bright future. The roadmap surely is full of good stuff to add!

I only got up to Assembly code to control a direction-aware icon with the joystick (C64 or how it is called in the world)
That never got anything farther 😅

A sprite probably? :) I didn't do any 6502 programming, but I do watch YouTube videos about it from time to time from a guy called '8-bit show and tell'

😄 thanks! In the future, when adding more features, the price might increase, or there will be a separate "Pro" IAP.

    Hi all,

Meow is a simple and efficient audio and sample editor for quickly and easily getting general everyday audio and sample editing duties done.

It will be a universal app for iPad, iPhone, and probably soon Mac.

The first Public Beta is now available!

    https://testflight.apple.com/join/8hrRo0m0

Would love for people to participate and get lots of bug reports and suggestions!

The main focus of Meow is to provide a simple and efficient workflow. It doesn't have a ton of features, but the features that it does have should work great!

Full description below. A "Record" function is just being finished and will be available in the next Public Beta.

    Thank you and have fun!

    KEY FEATURES:

    • Fast, smart and efficient navigation and selection with optional snapping to zero crossings
    • Undo and Redo (number of steps depends on file size)
    • Automatic Crossfades (adjustable length) for most editing operations
    • Interactive adjustable fade-in / fade-out points with various curve shapes
    • Nudging of selection start / end or playhead for fine-tuning the selection
    • Touch and mouse input fully supported
    • Hardware keyboard support with extensive keyboard shortcuts including in-app reference
    • Smart AutoZoom to reduce the need for manual panning / zooming
    • Clipboard with automatic resampling and rechanneling
    • Tempo and time signature support for editing and snapping to bars or beats
    • Resampling between any two supported sample rates (see below)
    • Sample-accurate editing and playback exactly according to selection
    • Seamless and sample-accurate looping playback of selection

    SAMPLE PROCESSING:

    • Editing: Cut, Copy, Paste (Insert / Mix / Replace)
    • Processing: Gain, Normalize, Silence, Reverse, Invert
    • Filters (with live preview): Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, Notch
    • EQ (with live preview): Peaking, Low Shelf, High Shelf
    • Channels: Make Mono / Make Stereo / Swap
    • Supported sample rates: 96000, 48000, 44100, 22050, 11025, and 8000 Hz
    • All processing done in 32-bit floating point

    IMPORT:

    • Supported formats: WAV, MP3, AIFF, MP4, AAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless). Note that very long audio files (> 20 minutes) are not supported.
    • Import via Files or Drag & Drop
    • Dropped files can be merged into existing audio (Insert / Mix / Replace)

    EXPORT:

    • Export to Files or Share directly from the app
    • Supported formats: WAV (16-bit / 24-bit / 32-bit float), MP3 (adjustable bitrate)

    LIMITATIONS:

    • Editing very long audio files (> 20 minutes) may cause instability and limited Undo functionality, as all processing happens in memory (RAM).
    • Editing very large files can result in slowdowns.

Thank you! I downloaded it via TestFlight with the link. I’m gonna test this one thoroughly. I love your apps, Trinity is amazing!!

Get comfortable with the Working Copy / Loopy Pro license model!

This is THE solution for getting money regularly without reducing the customers to those who would subscribe.
And it is quite similar to the desktop licensing model.

Most don't seem to understand this 😅

I understand it, but it's too complicated both for users and developers. I'd rather go with 'Meow 2', 'Meow 3', etc. to get paid for new features. This is the 'Xequence Model' 😄

  • Sooo, I've just pushed one last update™ that finally should fix the 'Mute switch mutes audio' problem.

As soon as Apple approves it, please test playback with the 'Mute' switch enabled thoroughly! It should never be silent while the app is in the foreground. Also, everything else also should still work 😄

Not for v1.0, but at least VariSpeed (i.e. just speeding up / down) is planned for v1.1.

To do pitch shifting / time stretching, I'd probably have to license some commercial algorithm to get good results, which would probably be cost-prohibitive. Or maybe there's some decent open-source time-stretching / pitch-shifting algorithms with an App Store compatible license?

I’m not sure regarding the algorithms but glad to hear varispeed is in the works. Thanks for the reply :)

    What is used by PaulXStretch?

The developer of PaulXStretch got a special permission from the original developer to publish it on the AppStore.

The only viable (ooopsie it's been changed to paid model) option as far as I know is Rubberband which is pretty decent.
    https://breakfastquay.com/rubberband/
(It's used in Koala, Renoise and a bunch of other apps).

Paul stretch is really intended for extreme stretching and I don’t think is great for standard time stretch use

If I recall correctly Koala uses its own homegrown method and is better sounding than rubber band. When I posted time-stretch samples a couple of years ago, people rated it as highly as BM3 and Ableton for the samples posted.

  • @SevenSystems , I still find it confusing (annoying) that after recording some audio and via Edit -> Delete deleting (all of) that audio, then changing the samplerate and hitting record again, that there pops up the question if I want to resample my file! For me there is no file (anymore)!! Also after closing Meow (after deleting a recording), and opening M again, it asks if I want to restore the previous session (with no recording): useless. And after restoring such a 'empty' session, I can Edit en Process everything on/for an empty screen!!! I know there's a BUFFER, but that must be empty too, right?
I don't think that I'll use M for recording (also because my iConnectAudio4+ interface (with 4 inputs) is not 'recognized', but if I 'must' (and because I'm beta-testing an App), then I hope there will come an option to save your own 'Default Samplerate' (I only use 44100, but M starts always with 48000 (after hitting Rec)).

  • @Harro : Is M starting with a sample rate other than the hardware sample rate? Is it possible that it is choosing 48k because that is what the hardware is set to?

  • @Harro said:

I think it would be indeed reasonable for Meow to assume that if the user deletes all audio, they want to start a new session, so the app could act as if the "New" button was pressed in that case. I will put this on the roadmap for an update soon after the first release.

Regarding the sample rate: Yes, this is unfortunately currently hard-wired to be 48 kHz for recording into a new project -- this will be configurable once a general, exhaustive "Preferences" menu arrives in v1.1!

    Thanks for the feedback.
