BTW, just putting this up for discussion here -- these are the current contenders for a future 'Preferences' pane in v1.1. Let me know if I missed something important and it'll be considered!
@SevenSystems : imo, the sample rate default should be whatever the current hardware sample rate is.
Yes, I think that would be better. I can't change this anymore before release, but putting this on the roadmap for v1.1.
@SevenSystems If you find a way to enable browsing inside 'document bundles' (.band, .logicx etc.) using the document picker which is used to open the files please consider adding support for it. (I've not checked the developer documentation in-depth yet but I'm quite sure it's doable).
The use case would simply be to be able to dig out audio stored inside GarageBand and Logic projects as neither app currently has satisfactory export functions for individual audio files used by the projects
From the file-system perspective document bundles are 'folders'.
Wim’s is a really good idea … and it had me thinking a “slip edit” option would be cool to have, as well. Slip edit would essentially allow you to lock in a selection size/duration and move it over the audio without changing the length of the selection.
Say you want to save a bunch of one bar samples from the same audio .. instead of having to separately move the in and out points along your audio to every sample you want to make and save, you could lock in a one bar selection size and move it over the audio to the place you want to sample, save the selection, wash, rinse and repeat.
Yes, I have that already on the roadmap... however, the question is how to invoke it. One way would be "Press and hold anywhere inside the selected waveform, then move", but that would compete with another planned feature ("Drag & Drop out of Meow into another app"). So... not sure! Maybe a draggable area could be added between the [ and ] buttons at the bottom, like so:
BTW, if it helps for now -- you CAN already move the whole selection at once, albeit only by touch and a bit awkwardly, by dragging BOTH handles at once with two fingers...
Regarding 'moving' a selection, could it be possible to 'lock' the selection length?
This way one would only need to move one of the handles? (ie. tap on the bracket and choose 'lock length' or something similar?). The only gotcha here is that it would ignore the zero-snap unless it's 'smart' and moves the selection so both left & right are at zero-crossing?
I'm all in for 'slip/wrap-editing' and swiping the area between the selectors could work for this even though many might try to use that area to move the selection...
That's a really good idea to put that as a toggle into the selection menus! Will add this to the list...
Yeah, I guess if you enable "Lock length", you REALLY expect the length to stay exactly the same, so I wouldn't want to snap both ends in that case...
Maybe it could snap to the side of the selection your finger is closest to.. so if you start to move the selection with your finger closer to the beginning of the clip it would snap to the beginning and if closer to the end of the selection, the end of the selection would snap .. of course , it would be good to still be able to disable snap altogether if you’d like, when in this mode
Just to be sure -- has anyone here actually tried the keyboard shortcuts? I'm asking because I can't get keyboard input to work in the Xcode simulator (the options are very confusing and I have no idea what to select) and don't have a bluetooth keyboard to test with my actual iPad... thanks!
You can already disable snap to zero crossings in the bottom left corner... or maybe you mean something else? (yes, otherwise snapping just the side that you're moving makes total sense.)
Only briefly using universal control (ie. share the Mac’s keyboard and trackpad with the iPad).
For me the iPad is a ‘touch first’ device so keyboard support isn’t really that important
Sorry that’s the one thing I haven’t tried. I meant to this week but I’ve been sick with Covid. I can try and breakout my Bluetooth keyboard later today though
I finally did some testing with keyboards. So far totally loving it!
It is much nicer than I expected to use a keyboard with this!
Thanks!
Oh don't worry, no stress! Whenever you have time!
That's good to hear! It's really designed keyboard/mouse first I guess! (there'll probably be a desktop release for Windows, Mac, and possibly Linux).
Anything that changes one end of the selection only will set the active handle. i.e. also tapping the handle, or dragging it, "Selection Start to Pos" (Ctrl-[), etc.
On the roadmap!
Not surprised, I use it with keyboard and mouse all the time. I really MadeTheAppForMyselfAtFirst™ (like Xequence 😉)
Keyboards not working with Meow on iPhone 12. They're working with other apps.
I'll keep trying.
See if it works after you've used a text field? (Filename in "Save")... iOS bug!
OK, I think I've narrowed it down.
Keyboards only work (on both devices) once I've used it to type in something. For instance, they will work after I bring up the "Beats" dialog in the tempo calculation and type a number in there. It seems that some regular typing has to happen in-app before the hot-keys start to work.
Yep, see my post above 😄 I've magically devised a workaround and have uploaded another beta to Apple. It's very hackish and might come with adverse side-effects, that's why the new beta...
Getting close to release! Uploading screenshots to App Store Connect (which is basically "Run the Gauntlet" -- find out which screen sizes and devices are currently required, find out which simulator is needed for each, make the screenshots, drag them into App Store Connect and see them appear in a random order so you have to rearrange them carefully in a small narrow area on the webpage, see random "An error has occured, please try again later" messages and your just uploaded screenshots randomly turning into placeholders, rinse and repeat... )
Progress works in mysterious ways?
A very optimistic way to put it 😄 but I guess I also get frustrated more easily than others at the "lack of perfection" (as if perfection was even possible...)
Thanks @SevenSystems! Just bought this and looking forward to trying it out. Will I finally be able to delete TwistedWave from my phone???
Thank you! 🍻 Haha, well, I'm not sure if you can! That's for you to judge. If you find anything that you miss from TwistedWave, let me know and I'll see if it can be added or is already on the roadmap! 🛣
@SevenSystems Wow didn’t know it is already released. Great audio editor, love the handlebars! But maybe let people know that app has been released
I'm always hesitant because I hate spammers! 😂 I might drop a little suspicious thread under the radar if nobody else picks up on it
I didn’t know Meow is out. Really nice app. I love how easy changing selections is. @SevenSystems One little piece of feedback from my “first start” experience: The boarding screen says “Drop audio on cat or press OPEN or REC”. My first reaction was to tap/hammer on “OPEN”, because my intuitive reaction to text in different font and color was that this is some kind of link. So I either would make these texts links, or change the text.
Thanks for the suggestion, good one!
@SevenSystems The 'fade in/out' handles feel a bit 'jerky/un-responsive' compared to the latest beta?!
