Hi there, is there any tutorial video for this? Thanks 😊
Currently, automation is available only through the MIDI Learn functionality provided by plugin vendors. Although major companies such as Fabfilter and Moog support this feature, there are some plugins whose parameters cannot currently be automated. We are interested in implementing parameter mapping between AUv3s on iOS devices and the SideRack DAW plugin to enable automation from DAW, but there is no definite timeline yet.
Currently, we don't have official tutorials. While there appears to be some video available on YouTube, we suggest trying out the 10-min free demo if you haven't already. We have designed SideRack as simple and self-documented as possible🙂
Thanks for your quick response.
The automation features from DAW side would be really useful. In my case I use Ableton live 12 with standard mapping. So I like to use SideRack as bridge to iOS AU world if it’s possible.
I downloaded this and really love it…in theory. My use case is to send guitar out, process with iPad effects, and return. Latency in this use case appears way too much to make it usable. Is my hardware just not up to the task? I’m using a MacBook Pro (whatever was immediately before the M1s same out) and the 11” iPad Pro. Connected directly to each other with no hub.
Thanks. Current implementation of SideRack is not optimized for real-time usage as its internal block size is fixed to 4098. Any device will use this value, so your hardware spec will not affect this plugin latency.
But we are planning to update this implementation as mentioned in my previous post.
Random question, what interface do you use that lets you connect to AUM and use iOS in realtime on Mac? Sounds legit.

Oh man! Why are we not speaking more about this?
How's it currently going @satoshiszk ? Still working on it?
And how's the community loving using this app?
I'm just hanging here waiting for the update that will allow adjustment of the internal block size. This can't come soon enough...
Thanks for the response! Looking forward to the potential of real time use. Already a very cool app and I would have purchased already if I didn’t have the iconnectmidi 4+
Watching patiently to observe how often it is updated, what the feedback is after 6-12 months, and how low they will discount it within the first year ... and still collecting top notch ios apps at a discount. I mean $16.99 ios for Fabfilter Saturn vs $75-85 bottom end on desktop ... if this does what it says on the tin, I'll pick it up eventually.
About to give it a serious workout this weekend, as it happens!
I pleased I picked this up it saved me money buying the same effect apps on desktop. Having it work as a AU, VST plugin is pretty cool. With 2 way audio also. The UI needs a polish I think plus app types need better division between instruments, effect and midi. Would love to be able in future to be able to host the iOS NovoNotes app in AUM for extra flexibility apart from that enjoy using it with a 2 machine system.
Yeah I think this would be a really big update regarding Live and real time usage.
Let us know how it goes after!
We're already in the final QA phase. While the outcome of the QA is unpredictable and we can't tell you a specific release date, we should be getting close. Thanks for your patience.
I‘m already hyped. 😄
We have been released v1.7.0 which includes the plugin latency adjustment.
We've added user preferences view to the SideRack plugin and you can edit Buffer Size Multiplier there. To minimize latency, set the buffer size multiplier to 1 and adjust the DAW's block size as small as possible. (Please make sure to restart your DAW after editing the preferences.)
We'd love to hear what settings worked best for your hardware!
Heyy!! Great news! Let's have the live performer people try it out! When i have a bit more of free time to be around music I'll definitely will give it a go.
I only tried a handful of iOS apps (Model D, Zeeon, Magellan 2) since updating yesterday with mixed results.
On my M1 MacBook Air (with a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5"), I initially tested with the default multiplier (4) and Live 12's sample buffer set at 256. The sample rate is set to 48kHz if that's relevant.
I was getting crackling consistently with all iOS apps so I tried raising the multiplier incrementally as far as 8 and even that was a bit shaky. I didn't realize at first that I had to restart the DAW when adjusting the multiplier so the whole first run may have been for naught.
Then today, seeing the posted recommendation to set the multiplier at 1 and adjust the DAW's sample buffer accordingly, I tried again. I also restarted the iPad to make sure no background processes were running.
In Live 12, the reported plugin latency is ultra-low at 1.3ms (IIRC) and SideRack worked cleanly as expected with Zeeon at a 128-sample buffer. But it's a moot point as Zeeon has a native Mac version. Magellan 2, an iOS-only synth app, was trickier and I couldn't get clean operation at 128 or 256. It was almost clean at 512 but that's on the threshold of live performance-friendly buffers, at least for me.
I need more time to fine-tune and experiment with SideRack to find the optimal settings.
It's working great for me now, but I notice that it doesn't save the state of the AU plugins used on the iPad. Is that expected? That makes it hard to use for projects, as you have to freeze everything and/or start over when you restart Ableton etc.
Thanks for your detailed report. It helps us a lot🙂
If you are using the plugin in free trial mode, this is expected. The state saving is disabled to limit its usage to testing purpose. If you are not in trial mode, this is a serious issue. Please report the details via the feedback form.
@satoshiszk I'm in trial mode! I didn't realize that was one of the limitations. Thanks for the reply.
Ok. It should be better to have some explanation shown at the beginning of the trial mode.
I get some pretty good results with a 128 Buffer Size setting in ableton live and the multiplicator of the plugin set to 10, which results in a latency of 26,7ms. I think it's tolerable, but can be better. I hope there is still optimization potential.
Nevertheless, I still think this is really nice product, keep up the good work!
So it's the audio stream that is used from an iPad to desktop...all controls remain on the iPad( user interface ).
That means i can have any auv3 from my iPad ( instr. or effect) being used inside my daw?
Midi cc mapping though, would be still from the iPad,right?
How is Push seeing the bridge?
Yes, you can utilize your AUv3 collection inside your desktop DAW projects.
As for MIDI CC, you can send it from your desktop DAW to your iPad.
This comment will add some extra details.
I think SideRack is currently the best thing on the market since the Studiomux no longer works in Ableton 12. I hope the SideRack is continuously developed and also withstands all updates from Apple. Unfortunately, the price of SideRack is a bit high for me. but all in all there is currently nothing better on the market...
