🤗 I must be dumb, but I can't figure out how to change the name of loops 🤔... is it even possible ?

On the pattern screen, tap the current name in the box at the top-right above the circle.

Sorry for dumb question, but is it possible to open P3 within AUM and send midi from P3 to other synths?

Yes you can. No app templates in P3 yet though like in Rozeta or Octachron etc so you have to configure the midi outs yourself and save as a preset at the moment I think.

    Ok, cheers Gus.
When I tried to do this I couldn't figure it out though....
I'll wait for someone to make a vid :)

I’ll record something tonight showing how if i can. Unless someone beats me to it

When I add an instance of Patterning 3 to Cubasis and hit play over my looped section it stops playing at the end of the loop… so everything else keeps playing as it loops back around but not Patterning. Anyone have any insight as to why this is happening perchance a thousand gratitudes in advance…

I can’t replicate that. It’s working as expected here. Can you provide more details?

Is P3 in song or loop mode?

Nvm. I was trying with the Cubasis loop section starting from the beginning of the song. When I loop a section not starting with the first bar, I see the same thing.

Thanks for confirming. I am indeed looping a section not starting with the first bar… after watching Jamie’s last livestream I thought I would try leaving some space before my initial loop.

I'm having problems with song mode in hosts in general. For instance, in Loopy Pro, song mode doesn't engage unless I tap play within P3 itself. Even if I have song mode enabled, it only plays whatever pattern is active in the pattern screen. If I hit play in P3 on the song screen and keep the window open then subsequent start and stop in Loopy Pro keeps the timeline running. But if I close the window, it gets stuck on the active pattern. [edit] Actually, it doesn't matter if I close the window or not.

I suspect there's something wrong with the way song mode is dealing with host sync.

    pinging @benkamen ...

  • @benkamen - on the pattern editing screen, the color of the names for the pads is the same as the background so letters outside the circle don't show up when the name is longer than what would display in the circle. Perhaps a contrasting font color would help?

New update 3.0.3 just released and might fix this. Let me know if it doesn’t!

Seems to be working well in Loopy Pro after a brief test. 👍🏼

The problem with Cubasis where the song doesn't loop if the loop region doesn't start on the first bar is still there.

Hi @wim ; it's not the pattern's name that I'd like to change, it's the "instrument's" name (KICK, SNARE, CL, CHH... etc.)
    Thanks 😊

  • Anyone know if it's possible to rename the kits in the project? So it's easier to know which one you're switching to?

Ahh. I thought "loop" = pattern.

Sorry, I haven't found any way to do that and can't really figure out how they get their names either. Sometimes the name seems to come from the first word of the file name and others not.

    @benkamen ?

  • It looks to me like it is the last word of the file name before the extension. Funky Break Kick gets labeled Kick. Funky Break Loop 2 gets labeled 2, for example. At least that was the case for the three kits I looked at.

It’s not possible, but the dev is aware of the problem. I suggested to use a thumbnail of the image on the drum kits page instead of the icon. Let’s hope this will be implemented.

I seem to remember some discussion on the beta forum about this, with a response from the dev that this might be coming - don't want to land him in it though! I've had a search on the Discord but can't find that particular discussion - probably best for @benkamen to let us know what he intends.

I asked him about it earlier in this thread and he said he would add it 👍

Yes, good catch @espiegel123 ; but it's weird that it's not always true 🤪...
Let's try with the samples folder called "3's Co." :

    • If you load the sample "3's Co. - Am - hh1.aif" ; the loop is named "HH"
    • If you load the sample "3's Co. - Am - perc1.aif" ; the loop is named "PERC"
    • BUT if you load the sample "3's Co. - Am - sn4.aif" ; the loop is named "3's" 😵‍💫🧐

So if @benkamen will add the possibility to rename the loop (or, at least, makes it easy to understand how it is named according to the file name), like @FordTimeLord said, that would be an excellent news 🤞🏻😁

Thank you all for your answers 🙏🏻👍🏻

Yes - on the todo. Right now it looks for some common word patterns in the file name when it first opens it. But I’d like to just be able to set the track name, so that MIDI tracks can have custom names as well.

  • @benkamen I'm sure you'll find the way. For now, I want to say that P3 is really excellent and LOT of fun to use 😁 ; Thanks 🙏🏻👍🏻

  • Hey everyone, the weekend flew by in a flash, and Patterning is a black hole in the best possible sense. I think I've bought literally every must-have drum machine for iOS and PC—from Battery and Microtonic to Playbeat, XO and Visco—but this is the only one where I actually prepare beats rather than randomly generating something here and there and abandoning it halfway through. Indeed, the tool shapes the mind o:)

The only thing I don't quite understand is how to load a drum kit witch locked settings? Wasn't this possible in the second version, or am I missing something? It would be handy to try new samples with an existing pattern keeping already settled setting for ADSR, LFO, send FX, mixer and master FX.

I have to rework the UI for that. Didn’t end up having enough time before the launch but I finally have an idea about how I want to do it.

No hurry and pressure, I will be busy with cloud kits, these are ace and there a lot of them!

  • Thanks so much for using Files for ....errr.... files!
As an irredeemable Windows user this is just awesome for connecting to samba shares.

I do have an issue with MIDI input:
I've connected and assigned a MIDI drum pad.

It triggers perfectly but does not record.
    Am I missing something?

I know I have reported a similar issue with @benkamen. I have to assume he is diligently working on it as he is with everything else. My experience with it came from me trying to record in another sequencer though the pads. I think its a timing issue. try and give him feedback through his support channels.

Cheers, yeah I'm on the Discord and we're working through.

  • Can anyone confirm that Patterning 3 comes with a free license for Ableton Live Lite 12? The app store description is a little vague, it reads:

direct export to an Ableton Live Set (including a access to Ableton Live Lite)

    Thanks in advance!

I haven't filled it out, but if you go into the Export menu there is a form to enter your email address to receive a license number for it, yes.
