  • Wow, indeed I never thought Apple would get on the bus. Awesome!

  • Surprised me too. Glad to see it though.

  • Downloading now. This has been an exciting day!

Nice! I was not expecting this. Since the previous update I have actually been pleasantly surprised by how GB handles itself in the background, so I'm looking forward to trying it out in Audiobus.

Anyone know if it is output only? Strings would be really nice as an Audiobus input =)

  • awsome awsome awsome....cooooooooooool

  • Output only :(
If you have more than one input, for example DM1 and Sunrizer both in input, they get merged as one track in GB (in the Audio Recorder instrument). Works fine on an iPad 2 so far.

  • So friggin' awesome! Big congrats to Mike and Sebastian. I'm surprised on one hand that Apple did this, but Audiobus is so well done that I figured they would.

@Htmx GarageBand is output only, at least for now.

  • Looks like you can use the sampler in GarageBand with Audiobus too! Niiiiice.

  • output only....what the hell? Are they kidding?Seriously, this behaviour makes me just speechless.Personally i have no use for this. And for those who thinks they gonna add the the second half of the bus later:for me this looks like the final proof that we NEVER gonna see at least audio copy OUT nor GB in the input slot.It seems part of their philosophy. What ever this weird philosophy means to be...

  • If you'd like other features like input, effects then leave a review on the app store. Obviously Apple is listening to what users want...

  • @Crabman, after having played with GB now for an hour testing AB I totally agree. I have both Auria and Cubasis so this added nothing for me.

  • Just expended my energy writing a review and asking for input.

    @Sebastian done. Output only? Meh!
EDIT: well I still think "Meh" but from Sebastian and Michael's point of view it's fantastic news. Congratulations boys

Logic next maybe? This could open alot if possibilities in the future!

  • edited March 2013

btw,if you have more then one input slot and you would like to record them all at once:GB merge them into one track then. That's a pretty lame implementation compared to others.

    oh steve,where are you...

edit:ah,i saw that niklas already mentioned it.Sorry...

  • Wow awesome man. Never saw that coming. Awesome.

  • This is great, thanks to Apple for jumping on the bus. When Audiobus was first announced long ago, I never imagined that Nanostudio would be ignoring it, and Apple would be adopting it! Hoping to see more updates from Apple in the future.

  • No kidding. :-) It looks like they must have been planning this for a while and were just waiting for the sdk to go public.

  • This is such a big deal. Congratulations @sebastian and @michael. Acquisition in 3...2... :)

People upset about its lack of input slot should a) let apple know and b) recognize that GarageBand's primary purpose in life is to the place where things end up - a place to build songs. For that use case, focusing on output only makes an awful lot of sense.

  • Great that they added AB, not so great that it is output only. They seem to want GB to be the core DAW system, but if they want that, they at least need to increase the number of tracks and add some professional FX such as EQ and compression. Shame, i was looking forward to using some of their instruments to record into Cubasis...

  • It's my understanding that you can't get uncompressed audio OUT of GB, so I don't get the enthusiasm.
Def a testament to AB's influence and the dev's hard work though! If even 1/4 of the people who own GB get AB, the AB guys are gonna look like their pockets got the mumps! Congrats!

Kudos to you guys. Get on the bus or get out of the way. Awesome news.

  • This is truly mind-boggling. I have been in shock all day :)

Awesome they are now on the bus. And yes too bad they didn't include input slot. But on the other hand this is the same way they handle audio copy/paste. You could paste audio from other apps into GB but you couldn't/can't copy audio from GB and paste into other apps. It's like they are fine with taking from others but not for giving back.

  • And @rhism and all the other devs, the crazy thought is that every Audiobus app is now effectively available as an add-on for the most popular iOS music app ever made. I hope this blows up for your sales too!

  • Never saw that one comin'

  • @Dubhausdisco "pockets got the mumps!" haha :)

  • Supposedly, part of the update involves the ability to switch off playhead auto-snap, but I'm not finding that option anywhere. Has anyone found it?

If nothing else, this'll be a BIG call-to-arms for plenty of smaller app developers. Wouldn't be surprised if this is Apple's first step in acquiring Audiobus for inclusion of core Audiobus functionality into an upcoming iOS update.

    Thanks.

  • All things considered, what AB has achieved is remarkable... Why propellerheads didn't port Rewire over is beyond me..
All we ever wanted was sample accurate audio and midi without having to think about it, which we are well on the way to I think.

@Dubhausdisco you can definitely get uncompressed audio out of Garageband, but you need to export your project to Garageband or Logic on Mac.

I use this functionality quite a bit for finishing up song ideas I've gotten down on my iPad. And now with Audiobus I'll be able to have those ideas a lot more fleshed out before exporting.
