My Plugable USB3 hub does that now The iPad will pop up a message saying it can;t charge, but it does anyway.
the brand is 'Plugable' ?
There's one good thing i see in the fact that only one new iOS device will (most)probably see 2 Gig of Ram:Apple and all devs still try to optimize their apps for 1 Gig.Maybe i'll just stay with my Mini Retina for one year more.I'm not running a lot of different app at once eitheri,i bounce a lot.On the other hand:i love to use all Fabfilter goodies in Auria (can't have enough power for them) and i'm tired of Aurias"low memory"warnings. This two things alone let me think about an upgrade

Cool! Could you post a link? I need to buy that.
Edit: Is it this one: http://plugable.com/products/usb3-hub81x4
?
More ram for Auria ++
But what I actually meant is a hub that would charge its host (iOS device) like they pulled off on the iConnectivity thingies and the Apogee One when used with the lightning cable. It doesn't look like this one could do that. Also it still requires a CCK.
I'll have to look for the model number when I get in the studio, I don't remember off hand. But yes, you still need the CCK.
I'm breathing a sigh of relief... Practically no change to the mini means I haven't lost out by buying one in the summer. Surprised though, seems like all they've done is upgraded the camera and added a finger print scanner.
If anyone is interested I just called UK Apple customer service and they have confirmed that the iPad air has 2gb of Ram :0)
Here's the number I called..0844 209 0611
http://www.apple.com/uk/contact/
So.... does anyone know from what time (Timezone, GMT, ZULU) we can order this thing?
Good man Dave.
Cheers Magoo! Interesting that in this digital age sometimes the oldest of technologies give the best answers.
I really don't understand why Apple doesn't sell two versions of new iPad: 1 and 2 Gb. A mistery to me.
Store is down. Won't be long now.
And thanks @Dave.
If 2 GB is at hand, then I'm ready to move from my ipad 4.
I'm still annoyed that we don't have precision input (for drawing/writing), and that we aren't getting a ppi bump.
Looking at the current apple lineup I have to believe that if they do release a "pro" model with those features, the base model will open at $1000.
Their pricing structure at the moment strikes me as old apple elitism, and I'm having the first notions that this whole company can slip out from under Cook's feet if someone like Jobs isn't around to give him some perspective. And having a stinking scumbag like Icahn having any influence on Apple should make us all worry about just how close to the shitter this thing might be.
This presentation really stripped a lot of the confidence I had in apple last year that they would be able to follow through this year and make some dramatic moves.
But I feel compelled to upgrade this year since they will undoubtably slowly make my 4 choke on iOS updates if I don't obey the two year cycle.
I'll be getting the 64 GB Air 2 and also the mid-tier Mac Mini.
After sleeping on it, I think this is a killer upgrade for audio power users. Double the ram, 40% more CPU, I personally welcome the Touch ID, and there is no increased pixel count or anything else that will immediately devour the boost in performance. If it's all true and if I am calculating this correctly, 40% CPU increase over the current Air is like adding more than TWO additional iPad 2 processors on top of the Air processor if you go by the benchmark numbers. http://browser.primatelabs.com/ios-benchmarks
At approx 2060 benchmark, we are comparing to 2010 i7 macbook pros! So it's not like an iPad 3 scenario where you got a boost, but then the resources were gobbled up by the new retina screen which actually put the performance benchmarks below the iPad 2 (check the benchmarks). And of course at this point it is all still kind of speculative, but it is really looking promising based on the info we currently have.
For me, it's all about reliably running multiple apps at once for live use. I can't wait to get this thing and really have little interest in a pro if it is 12" as I prefer the size of the current iPad. Now come on and get that store back up and take my order!
Can't wait to get this. 128GB for me.
From discchord:
I called Apple after the keynote and asked specifically if the iPad Air 2 or Mini 3 have 2 GB or 1. After about 10 minutes on hold, the answer I got was 1 GB.

So is it 1 or 2 GB?
Tarekith is tearing his apart when he gets his so we will know for sure after that.
Until I get done tearing mine down, no one will know for sure. Been looking for my hammer all morning, once i find that, I'll post here and let people know.
I'm betting on 1 GB. We won't know for sure until some site opens one up. It doesn't sound like Apple support knows for sure, either.
@ Tarekith - Lol!
All members of the Apple support team probably don't know what is up. And asking about both devices in the same question could lead to confusion. But it is true, we don't know! This doesn't stop me from ordering one to have on hand just in case. But the Apple store still being down must mean they are having some issues.
To me, the price is a tip. And it seems to say: "1 Gb". But, who knows?
Why is Apple bent on keeping RAM size a secret? Anyway, I'm sure the support staff know as much (or as little) as we do at this point. And if they're not telling tech writers, they certainly won't tell customers...
They just replaced 32Gb with 64Gb for the same price. Even if RAM is much more expensive than flash, I don't think the price of a 1Gb RAM upgrade would have much influence on overall pricing. It's peanuts when compared to the development costs of the laminated screen or the A8X or the new camera.
As I said before, I put my trust in the leaked parts photo's. May be whishful thinking, but there it is... 2Gb is still my bet.
Order placed. Come on 2GB ram!!!
FYI- Shipment 1 Available to ship: 2-4 business days
Delivers: Oct 23 - Oct 27 by Standard Shipping
I can't remember Apple ever officially stating ram in iOS devices. If my memory serves correct, I've always found out about it via teardown articles online.
@tarekith, would love to find out about the Plugable model here, too. Can you have in keyboards, DI, etc. plugged in while it charges the iPad?
It is not possible to charge iPad when using a CCK no matter what USB hub is used.
Ordered! Woot.
It's no so simple. If you have twice RAM, you wanna use it. And use at the highest speed possible because you have 40% much power. So you have to modify some parts of the mainboard, like the databus, for example. So the physical costs are bigger, even not talking about design costs.
But I'm agree. It's ridiculous announcing the iPad non mentioning his RAM amount.
