The iPhones do have smaller screen resolutions which may account for higher graphics scores.
The 2D scores are probably right since they are "more than double the graphics performance" over the Air. The 3D, it's hard to say since a 4S beats the Air 2, but there are gains from the Air and the smaller screen vs. larger screen thing makes sense so it might be right on.
Interesting that the CPU score is nearly double that of the Air (wow!). Not sure why the disk score is so high either. And the ram scores, I'm thinking there needs to be some optimization to account for the 2GB, that or it only measures the performance of each chip (and there are 2?), otherwise moving to 2GB maybe doesn't increase speed as much as it increases capacity? Either way, I KNOW 2GB is going to help with apps so I'm happy with this upgrade on paper, err screen. As much as I wanted to believe in the evidence supporting 4GB to become a reality, I knew it was extremely unlikely and only really expected 2GB.
Apple loves to give its users a feeling of surprise with the devices they already have.
Kind of like Elektron.
So when the multi-window app is coming with the ipad pros that will let the apps displayed side by side, i´m sure apple will say "hey you can do that also with the air 2 that you already have". Of course it will be much more fun on a bigger screen, so people with an air 2 will ´test´ that and be baited for an ipad pro.
And in order to run multiple apps on the same screen the air 2 will most likley have 2gb ram minimum.
Do people fake these Passmark scores? I guess it's unlikely. (Don't have a clue though).
Reason i'm asking, is that from the looks of these Passmark specs, it think i'm going to go for it.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I strongly suggest waiting a few days for a tear me down, just in case.
iPad Air 2: 2-3 cores cpu, 1-4 GB RAM....
semi-confirmed
Mostly the first Geekbench 3 test from australia shows what's in the package. We see in 2-3 days.
My bet still dual core with about 1.7 Ghz 2 GB RAM and 8 core gpu.
Hmm... I think I might have to pull the trigger on this one after all.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

Maybe that explains the 3 billion transistors. If these benchmarks are true the iPhone 6 is dated
It's on par with older Macbooks now. If they now release Logic for iPad i might jump in again into iOS a bit more. Mmmhh..... but just 2 GB ram.... ![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)

Haha, now 2gb of ram is already worth complaining about?![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

Beer for me, not lemonade!
So it seems that this new Air is rather formidable.

I personally won't be satisfied until we have a 128-core 16TB ram iPad Pro Pro Pro. I can't even begin to think about making music until it's that powerful.
That's great, too bad it actually won't have a battery big enough to put all that power to use for more then ~1,5 - 2hrs. I wish this silly race between the companies on who can make the thinnest crap would just stop. You know it's getting way too far when your cellphone bends, and when things like the battery in a tablet takes such a massive hit on the longevity per charge, it plummets from those 10hrs Apple puts out there to around 20% of that nr, under heavy load . IPAD PRO PLS kthx
I agree, as long as you're only using 1 synth at a time.

I know... Just imagine trying to make a decent track with a few blocks of wood, some wire, some animal skins, a few magnets and primitive analogue circuits. The best music is the stuff we'll be able to make next year when we just get the tech problems sorted. No good music ever comes from the past.
Can't complain about the performance of my iPad 4 although future apps might begin to stretch it...but it's only 16 Gb and with the price drop for the 64 Gb model I'm tempted to go for that...the system specs are impressive...
But I don't have to be the first kid on the block to have it, so I'm holding out for a week or two to see if any flaws emerge...like the battery endurance Chris just mentioned, or any quirks of the new screen, or a vulnerability in that thin frame...there have been too many incidents with newly launched Apple products in recent years to just order sight unseen...
sorry @Ringleader
Mine arrives Friday, can't wait.
Just ordered one, should be here on Monday or Tuesday. It'll take some getting used to the full size iPad form factor again as I really like the mini retina, but I'm excited for the increase in power.

I'm going to really struggle when you guys start discussions about how much more you can do in parallel... Mind you Xmas is on the way, I'm sure my lad wouldn't notice if the iPad mini retina he gets is second hand..now, where did I put that white shoe box and the handy apple stencil?
Speaking of parallel... under what conditions does iOS benefit from multicore performance? Multiple apps running simultaneously? Or would the gain be more visible with single apps written to take advantage of parallel processing?
I would like to know that too, since the single core power is more important when using high cpu intense synth. Even on my Mac there are not much synth which uses multi core support.
Is there any iOS app which makes use of multi core support? Whatever, the iPad Air should be perform now much better for multi tasking with 3 cores and double the RAM. Maybe i change my iPad Air with an Air 2. This time wi-fi only to save 120€. Not sure why i bought the cellular version.... never used it in my iPad. So i would get for 100€ an new iPad Air 2. Nothing to loose eh'. But what will happen when i use 24bit samples..... will the ram be enough?
Can iOS swap RAM?
@Cinebient That's a lot of questions for something none of us has.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I read iPad Air 2 reviews at The Verge, Techcrunch, and The New York Times. None of them even mentioned RAM/memory. This is the best thing I've seen so far relating to performance and benchmarks: http://www.dailytech.com/Apples+iPad+Air+2+Features+Triplecore+A8X+Processor+2GB+of+RAM/article36756c.htm
O wait.... now the minimum specs for a full Alchemy are passed. So Camel Audio, when will you release the full Alchemy 1.0 for iPad? (But please finish Alchemy 2.0 before).
@telecharge several reviewers confirmed 2GB. Here's a quote from the Engadget review:
"Apple's making a jump from a dual-core processor to one with three cores; the CPU is clocked at 1.5GHz, a 100MHz bump from the original Air; the L2 cache doubled from 1MB to 2MB; and it also comes with 2GB of RAM, twice as much as the last few iPads. It's no surprise, then, why the company is boasting a 40 percent boost in CPU performance and an increase in graphics prowess by a factor of 2.5."

Big disappointment the dead of the Mini Retinas but i can't wait to get the Air 2 now.And 128GB.

how much apps can be opened in AB
Same—never used it once. Especially now that tethering is available on the iPhone, seems kind of pointless though I guess tethering serves to kill two batteries at once.
