How’s iOS 18 treating people?

I’m about to go for it, but curious how it’s working out for people?

  • I dig it! So far all the updates are awesome and being able to move app icons anywhere on the screen is great for grouping.
The dark mode for the app icons is cool.

So far all my music apps work but I’ve only tested a handful

Definitely go for it, it is a good update

  • Cant spare the extra 4gb,lol. Cool, it works on 9th gens tho

  • Is there actually any change that would be interesting to us music creating people?
Missing the times where OS updates brought groundbreaking new audio features like AUv3 :)

  • Yeah, those times are long gone. We get apps to be positioned where we like… after 18 iterations. Sorry, woke up on the wrong side of the but this is underwhelming

  • Everything has to plateau at least for a lil while

I have been on the beta 18 on all my newer Apple devices (Macbook Pro 16”, iPad Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max) since day one (9 june), and, zero problem!

Just now I have 18.1 beta 3 on the Mac and my iPad, but iPhone 13 Pro Max is too obsolete to get the 18.1 of iOS (!?)…

    So, don’t hesitate on iOS/iPadOS 18, it’s a stable and cool update…

  • Does it gobble up more storage space than 17 ?

Agree, interesting ipadOS updates are a rarity these days, though I do quite like the sound of the voice transcription feature in the Notes app. The rest sounds pretty meh for me personally

  • Game mode with reduced latency for bluetooth earpods could be a big thing for me if music app devs utilize it.
    We’ll see.

I thought this too, but according to the developer of Drambo, this is a flag that can only be used for apps marked as games on the App Store, and it's an 'always on' thing so there are no options.

I think we all need to lobby Apple!

That was discussed elsewhere and unless I misunderstood it won't be possible unless the dev categorises their app as a game rather than music. That seems kinda ludicrous, so either I misunderstood or someone with sway with Apple should point out to them that they're missing a trick by not allowing music production apps to work in this way.

  • For all brave new iOS heroes, thank you.

I’ll wait and watch from a safe distance. 🤗

  • Well this thread is a relief. Just accidentally started the install thinking it was 17.7. Maybe more reading instead of thinking next time.

I just took the plunge like a total kamikaze 😁 it's downloading now 🤓

Haha, I hope for the best! 🙏 You have all the apps in existence. If it works for you, it will be more than enough for me. 😌

  • Lol and here's me wondering whether to go to iOS 17 :-)

  • Been pretty ok overall for me

    Noticed this this morning
    Kinda fun

  • Not upgrading until 18.1

  • The more people that upgrade the faster eventual problems will be both found and fixed (greater pressure on Apple).

So, one could argue that you who don't upgrade and take the "wait and see" approach are halting development. ☎️

Then again, what do I know.😂

  • Do I understand correctly that upgrading to version 18.0 will cost me an additional 6.39 GB of space?

Hi! Luckily, no, because some part of that will just be replacing the old OS. So that 6.39gb is the size of the download, but it will likely not take up anywhere near that amount of extra space. But you'll still need to make sure you have enough space available to do the download and install.

I actually gained space. I needed 3.69 for the install but afterwards I had an extra gb.

  • Does Multi-Route Audio (in apps like Audiobus and Loopy Pro) still work the same as before? I know it was poorly supported previously. Hoping they didn't silently kill this neglected feature. No reason to think that they did, aside from my own neurosis.

  • Audio Modeling just posted on FB that iOS 18 broke the SWAM instruments. So don’t upgrade until they fix if SWAM are part of your workflow.

  • I seemingly can’t get logic pro to play through my airpods since iOS 18. Is anyone else seeing this?

  • Their is a warning about Zenbeats and iOS 18.

  • I would be cautious about upgrading -- I've seen a few messages from a few people running into some audio problems in Loopy Pro that are unusual and seem to coincide with upgrading the OS.

  • The only problem I’ve had is the same one I’ve always had. Finishing music 😂 but that’s never been iOS related

Its not even a fear issue with me... I just haven't seen any new features that has me excited enough to update right away
