  • My advice to all would be, Do not upgrade ipads until it is fixed otherwise they will continue to ignore us. There is strength in numbers.

  • Oh look, there's a package at my doorstep. Hmm, what could it be?

open it! we need people to use it, video it, and send the youtube link to Tim Webb.

no pressure, but we are all hoping someone will :)

In regards to the trolls and kiddies issue, without ignore settings this site is primitive.

A good example is TheGearPage. They even have an 'Ignore Thread' button right in front. No need to go into your user panel, that's really easy to use and is actually fun LOL. My ignore lists on quite a few forums are rather long and frankly, it helps IMMENSELY. It is an essential function for any kind of personality conflict.

A lot of people just stress me out. Nothing wrong with them, but with the age differences, and such, it makes the forum less enjoyable. I'm sure the feeling is mutual actually, cuz i'm a piece of work myself.

  • apple is really busy with its cloud and payment stuff now,

and ios8 was a big step into the future

    and steve is gone,

there is nobody that tells us we are holding it wrong

  • Yes @Nubus an ignore button would be a godsend I'm just to weak to simply ignore.

I wouldn't bother devs with it, because Apple isn't listening to them. They have no influence at all with Apple, and very little contact. What we're experiencing now cannot be changed by anyone, so all we can do now is make Apple aware of our grievances so that they do not rock the boat in the future. Make 2014 memorable to Apple as the year they pissed off a lot of long-time customers, and may think twice before they do anything to jeopardize what is now being built.

Uhm... it's not all that black and white. Apple does listen to devs now and then. And iOS 8.1 is clearly helping a lot. It's obvious from the amount of support emails we're receiving that people have a lot less problems now.

If you really think this will help, I'd say the OP is your best case scenario for something like this.

  • safari still freezes :/

  • That's good to know @Sebastian, but at what point will you be able to say that everything is stable and it is OK and worth it to upgrade to the iPad Air 2 and iOS 8.x. Are you saying that things are all running as they should be, or are you saying that things are just getting better? I'm on the threshold of upgrading to a new iPad. I have an iPad 2 and I've tuned and squeezed as much juice as I can out of that particular apple and I'm looking to get a bigger, faster juicier model that will do a lot more with what apps I have. The problem, is that I'm seeing posts of legitimate problems that I can't seem to be able to gauge. The designers of the ship won't speak, the tech savvy passengers are screaming that the ship has a big hole in it and that the ship is sinking, and the rest of us lemmings are searching for reassurances and trying to decide who to follow... :-)

I think things would be a lot better, if people could be straight with us and tell us what's going on, and what is being done to fix it.

  • To me, crackles at modest latencies is no good. Also, crackles when using multiple apps is not good either.

  • We need a system that is stable, low latency, properly supported, and sufficient for the task. Hardware-wise, one would think that an upgrade from an iPad 2 to an iPad Air 2 would be enough to see considerable improvements all across the board. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. It's got me worried. That, and the fact that we have to go through this uncertainty every year....

    Very disappointed by this!

Is this just an audio/music app issue or does it affect other types of apps (photo editing, games, video) as well? That would make it more urgent for Apple to fix!

With the release of iOS7 apple introduced a new bluetooth (MFI) interface for game controller. There are quite a few on the market now but they also fucked this up with iOS8 (not fixed in 8.1)

    http://afterpad.com/post/97859780580/warning-bluetooth-mfi-controllers-broken-on-ios-8

Most probably not related to audio, just another one on the list of weird things going in iOS8.

    Oh well... :(

btw, more impressions of the Air 2 would be welcome.Still thinking about a purchase.I don't really use AB anymore, only IAA in Cubasis or Auria.Maybe things aren't THAT worse when working like this.

@canis:i would like to thank you for your postings here as well!

  • Everything feels a litte shaky,

Standalone seams right now the only thing that doesn't have it's what was that moments
things will get better in time, repeat after me :)

  • With all due respect: there's been a lot of communication lately (see my responses and those of other developers in the Fireside chat thread: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/88150).

If you're not sure if you want to upgrade, don't. Just wait a few days or weeks and then make an informed decision. Also: make backups of your setup and don't update apps or the operating system on a device that you rely on behaving exactly the way it has been in the past. If you stick to those rules you're fine. iOS 8 has been one of the biggest and most complicated releases of software for Apple devices. Granted, it's not gone perfectly but it is getting better. I'm receiving about 80% less support requests since iOS 8.1 and apps are being updated to the new SDK left and right.

Lately I've got a feeling like everybody is commenting on every little hiccup like the sky is falling. It's really not helpful for anyone and to be frank, if you guys were just a little more patient you could just wait until the most annoying bugs have been fixed and apps have been updated. It is really just a matter of waiting a few weeks and not doing anything drastic.

If there's a bug with your favourite app, report it to its developer. If there's a problem with iOS, contact Apple customer support. This whole defeatist way of approaching the situation ("We're not being listened to at all!") is just not necessary.

You've been warned to back up your stuff way in advance. You've been told to hold back on updating to the new version of iOS way in advance. This place is full of iOS audio developers reading and replying to users. Apple is releasing updates almost on a bi-weekly schedule now.

    Chill.

    Thanks @Sebastian
    My two cents:
on ipad4, ios 8.1, pretty much all the instrument apps I love are working in, and are midi sequencable through, IAA and AB, into/from BM2...weirdly enough, same is true on iPhone 5s, on the last ios 7 version.
So we are clear, on either device, I don't run more than 2 synths and 2 effects at a time into a DAW and I don't depend on the rig live, in front of people...(though stability-wise I could).
In other words I don't have complaints at all music production wise with ios 8.1, and all the apps updated for 8.1 on my iPhone are running fine in 7 point whatever-it-is, on the 5s.

You're welcome. Also here's what I just posted on the discchord comment section:

This buggy behaviour might not have anything to do with the new iPad Air 2. We're just investigating a bug that seems to appear with long chains of multiple effects apps in certain combinations of apps in Audiobus. Since the new iPad invites to use such cpu/ram intensive chains the chance for stumbling over this bug is increased considerably.

PS: You can thank Christopher Rice for finding and documenting that bug. Chalk up one more for team indy developer.

  • And yes, as always:
    We're working on it.

  • Sound advice.

My impression is that much of the complaining and frustration comes from the fact that the user doesn't know if it is an Apple problem, Audiobus problem, or an app problem.

    Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

  • I'm not a great fan of NDA's :(

  • I would also like to know if the Tim Webb cloak and dagger stuff is a bunch of FUD, but I don't expect an answer to that. Time will tell I suppose.

Yeah, you might be right with that. I'm trying to shed some light onto what's going on.
To me it seems like some people are just now finding out that finding and fixing bugs takes time and isn't done over night but might actually take weeks if not months. But that's just how it is. iOS 8 might have been the rockiest iOS update yet and that's why people are so surprised because they are just not used to stuff not working on iOS.

    Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

    You're welcome.

Things might not be as peachy as they have been in the past but I don't really see any dark vampire zombie clouds on the horizon.

  • Kudos to Christopher!

  • First impressions of iPad Air2. The screen is nice, less glare, and thinner than my iPad mini 2. Rather than just copying my current setup, I'm going through the music apps and downloading those that are Audiobus compatible or are midi controllers. This process seems to highlight how many music apps don't quite make the cut over the years in terms of keeping up with the latest Audiobus SDK and iOS version. Really see the value of keeping the iPad mini 2 on iOS 7.1.2 so I still have the Audiobus functionality for some of the apps I still enjoy.

The wifi transfer download speed does seem to be significantly faster. Plan on actually playing some apps this evening.
