@sebastian, will a day come when I will be able to run the chain of synths and effects that I used to run with no problems on iOS 7.1.2 in iOS 8.x? Is that kind of use of Audiobus going to become obsolete?

If so, iOS music making will lose most of its appeal for me.

    Thanks!

@nubus: noticeable compared To the a7?
    less memory warnings?

My impression is that much of the complaining and frustration comes from the fact that the user doesn't know if it is an Apple problem, Audiobus problem, or an app problem.

    Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

With all due respect: there's been a lot of communication lately (see my responses and those of other developers in the Fireside chat thread: http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/88150).

If you're not sure if you want to upgrade, don't. Just wait a few days or weeks and then make an informed decision. Also: make backups of your setup and don't update apps or the operating system on a device that you rely on behaving exactly the way it has been in the past. If you stick to those rules you're fine. iOS 8 has been one of the biggest and most complicated releases of software for Apple devices. Granted, it's not gone perfectly but it is getting better. I'm receiving about 80% less support requests since iOS 8.1 and apps are being updated to the new SDK left and right.

Lately I've got a feeling like everybody is commenting on every little hiccup like the sky is falling. It's really not helpful for anyone and to be frank, if you guys were just a little more patient you could just wait until the most annoying bugs have been fixed and apps have been updated. It is really just a matter of waiting a few weeks and not doing anything drastic.

If there's a bug with your favourite app, report it to its developer. If there's a problem with iOS, contact Apple customer support. This whole defeatist way of approaching the situation ("We're not being listened to at all!") is just not necessary.

You've been warned to back up your stuff way in advance. You've been told to hold back on updating to the new version of iOS way in advance. This place is full of iOS audio developers reading and replying to users. Apple is releasing updates almost on a bi-weekly schedule now.

    Chill.

This is good news! I'd still like to know what Tim Webb meant though. According to him, something is really, really broken in iOS8, and will take "MONTHS" to fix. I just want my stuff to work well. I'll try to chill. :-)

I don't think it will become obsolete, but I too am very interested in @sebastian's response. :-)

Yes , it may be the uncertainty that's feeding most of the panic about this, and maybe the double whammy effect just after the 8.0 release.

I updated my iPad 4 fairly early and by now practically all apps I care about are running well. But my '4 has one limitation that just won't go away: it's 16 Gb storage capacity...When I purchased it a year and a half ago I was still blissfully unaware of its music capabilities so I misjudged the need for more storage.

This is actually my main reason for upgrading, besides that powerful processor, the highly anticipated RAM upgrade and the nicer screen I'd be getting a 64 or 128 Gb model! So, I'm still tempted to go ahead. But perhaps now I won't trade in that '4, but keep it just in case, and it might be useful as a second iDevice anyway.

@mmp If you have the choice, keeping both is a great option. Why not? As for memory, always pick the bigger number.

  • edited October 2014

Yep,128GB for me definitely this time.My Auria Folder alone is always floating arround 15GB...It's roughly just (my) music and some games filling most the 64.I would also like to put some iTunes stuff on it.And some movies. And some comics :)

  • yeah well, budget is tight...originally I was thinking of trading in the '4 to fund the jump from 64 to 128...

Hey @AdamMatza1967 , I know what your going as this Hallowween, the Boogie-less man.

    ^huh?

Adam, huge respect for getting far enough to complete albums and do live shows all iOS. I can't imagine how frustrating to have the whole setup go wonky. The facts are all there: what you shoulda done... Etc, etc... But it still sucks, and I'm sorry to hear you got caught in the iOS 8 rubble.

  • @Hmtx, thank you. I really did do everything I could to avoid this.

@WMWM, I have no idea what your comment means.

  • It was just a joke even if I can see how it could have touched the raw nerve.

  • Actually Suppy, I never touch them raw, I perfer them fried.

  • We're clearly on form today @WMWM

but the joke is to good to not laugh about it
    no harm intended

  • Cougar disco!

  • One persons solution to the iOS8 conundrum:

  • More money than sense.

  • UPS has apparently lost mine, the tracking number stopped updating halfway through it's travels and it should have been here by now. Customer Service has no idea where it is. Sigh....

  • Ouch. Sorry to hear it @tarekith.

  • Hopefully it didn't wind up in Germany. Jokes aside, I hope you get it soon.

  • @tarakith sorry to hear that, I had a computer that got lost once. They found it, only it wasn't mine...so they lost 2. Or some UPS employee at the time had a smokin fast dell 500mhz p4...
I hope you get a resolution.

  • @supadom, @wmwm

You guys are soooooooooooooo fucking funny!!!

  • freakin ups did that to me with a roland ep-30 one time, and then when I got it, I could tell it had been molested the bastards...

  • Looks like it might show up Monday or Tuesday now, so much for pre-ordering :(

I admire your restraint in not buying one locally and sending the other one back.

  • C'mon now, Apple doesn't pay me that much!

  • Anyone with an iPad Air 2 willing to give Fiddlewax Pro a try and let me know how it goes?

If you don't have the app already, message me and I'll see what I can do to hook you up. :)

    Cheers,

    Adam
