Audiobus is going to a new home! Forum is staying

Hello!

I have some big news: Audiobus is going to a new home. Francesco and Andrea are developers and musicians who are keen to pursue Audiobus’ further potential, keep it updated and enhance the experience for users old and new – and unlike me, they have the resources to do so! They’re full of ideas and energy, and I am confident that Audiobus will be in good hands.

We all recognise that the Audiobus forum has evolved well beyond being just the forum supporting Audiobus, and so it isn’t going to be a part of the move: it will remain with me, and it won’t change.

[Edit]: We have a decision! "The Loopy Pro Forum" it is.

But it needs a new name!

Some possibilities; do feel free to suggest your own (those who suggest Forum McForumface will receive dead fish in the mail 😄):

  • Touch Music Community
  • Touch Music Forum
  • Mobile Music Community
  • Mobile Music Forum
  • Mobile Studio Society
  • Audio Buffs Forum (started as a joke but has gained some traction!)

I'm leaning away from including 'iOS' in the name as that may have implications with stepping on Apple's branding; it'd suck to get Cease And Desist letters.

Thoughts? I’d like to begin the transition over the next week or so.

With love,
Michael

There are some available domain names with .io, like iosstud.io, mobilestud.io, portastud.io... Something that ends with studio could be a nice fit

  • I created a YouTube channel which I’m planning to do something with next year called the iStudio. Perhaps something like the iForum or the iMusicians Forum or iSounds might work?

!!! Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico!? ..Edward G. Robinson, Little Caesar

Thanks, Michael, for everything. Hopefully, you’ll post here when necessary..
    You cannot be replaced, however.

    “big news”

    Indeed!

    ———-

I don’t comment here much these days, but read virtually every day - as you see by my early responce..

    AudioTrain Forum.

    Audio iOS Forum.

    AudioSub Forum - (Bus-->Sub).

added: If they are taken, carry on!..

  • iOS Musicians United
    iOS Producers United

    iOS Music Society

    iOS Producers Hub
    iOS musicians Hub

    iOS Production Club
    iOS Musicians Corner

Let me know if you need some more top shelf ideas but one of those gotta hit the mark man

  • AudioMuse
    MusAudion (s)

I quite like audio buffs , though reflecting both the musicians and the audions would be great… I guess the mobile monikers would be predicated on wanting to keep things focused on that side, though I am firmly in all four camps ( mobile, desktop, hardware and acoustic ) and love reading / discussing them all in this community…

  • Audiobusted

  • edited October 16

Im also in all 4 camps, but since its focus is on iOS/ipados I thought it would be good to keep iOS as the primary platform in the name to keep it consistent

However if going for inclusive, we only gotta leave out Android as this place is for iOS and macOS and hardware/Mac desktop ??

In whcih case switch it from iOS to
    Apple Musicians United
    Apple …..

OR “The Audio Bus” which kinda of is a throwback to the name of the app that started it all as well as a vehicle containing a collective of many people sharing the same vehicle to different destinations, as well as a play on words because or audio busses/ing

Clearly I put too much thought into it
So those are my suggestions lmao

So yeah “the audio bus” - music production forum

  • I'd be a little careful about names that combine "iOS" and "Community". I believe "Ed the Outcast" used to have a site called ioscommunity. We don't want to get crossed up with that.

I think keeping it simple and descriptive is best.

iOS Music Forum - perfect if it is available. If not, maybe...

    iOS Music Network...?
    iOS Music Hub...?
    iOS Music Centre...?
    iOS Music Hangout...?

True, I'd love to see it succeed in all camps, but is it a risky move to go general ?

    Yes it is
Keeping it with iOS in the beginning makes this continue the same legacy as if nothing changed , as nothin is changing
We know what the place is and those searching will find it same way either way

  • Wow.

    Big changes.

  • I_OS.net
    WE_iOS.net

  • iOSTouchMusic

  • iOSMusicStudios

  • Wow! Congrats on the sale (change of hands?) for Audiobus, number one. Glad to hear the work will continue.

And even more importantly, it's great to hear this forum will remain under your stewardship.

Suggested names (I'm just going to assume you'll keep the ".us" extension for the time being:

    -AllAudio.us
    -Join.us
    -MusicTech.us
    -OneOf.us
    -MusicB.us
    -AppTech.us

If I think of any other names, I'll post 'em.

I see this site as welcoming to desktop as to iOS/iPadOS. But the common interest (IMHO) is both tech (apps) and music.

    How about iOSMusic.com?
I've just had a look and it's not taken.

  • Thanks for the info Michael and good luck to the new devs!

My 2 cents is that the title needs ‘iOS’ in the name. ‘Mobile’ is too general, surely, as this forum doesn’t cover Android. Regarding even more general names - hmm, although some users here are interested in desktop and hardware, this is definitely first and foremost an iOS forum and there are tons of other sites for desktop and hardware.

I agree with Dave’s earlier post also that the name The iOS Community should be avoided given the previous use of it by Ed.

Including any trademarked names owned by Apple in the new site name might result in legal problems for Mike. That's why I would discourage the use of iOS, iPadOS, Apple or any other protected name.

If the focus here is to be iOS or iPadOS (and I really don't think it should be that narrow), then you might use the word "Mobile" instead, for example.

    Fair do's.

I didn't realise that one cannot use iOS in the title.
There's a Facebook group called ,"iPad and iOS AudioUnits" and
alongside that one there are a few others that include iOS in their group titles
which seem to be doing okay however they are not an online Forum.

As a Facebook group, they don't have a unique domain name. And as a group/forum (not a business) it's less of a concern.

Maybe too cautious? Using “iOS” in the context of a community for music production on Apple devices should fall under fair use, as it’s descriptive and not trying to pass itself off as an official Apple product.

iOS, iPadOS and macOS are all trademarked names. And they can be quite litigious when it comes to their brand names. When it's your own money on the line, people generally take precautions.

There’s going to be a good chance that the domain name associated with whatever we pick is going to be taken, so we may need to play around with it, or make it a subdomain of loopypro.com. forum.audiob.us will remain active and will redirect to the new domain.

Thoughts? I’d like to begin the transition over the next week or so.

    @NeuM @Gavinski
I think Michael maybe already of the usage of iOS in the domain name.
Three of the names suggested have iOS in them.

Those are rough ideas. If we come up with something better, then I think he'd use it.
