  • Full Mpe would be real nice.
The aftertouch on Linnstrument with Atoms is real nice, definitely beautiful sounds but need that true mpe pitch bend and channel control/assignments.
Worth it as is but really could shine in the mpe world.

It would be excellent. Will it be added though? From the dev’s quote above, it sounds unlikely

  • This thing sounds cool.
I wish we could do more with the wave forms or the audio source or whatever this uses to create the initial sound.
It gets kinda samey as i scroll thru the presets, and also the preset doesn’t always change when you tell it too, as mentioned.
Maybe I’m missing something but it seems like you can’t shape the sound source really but only post effects on the sound?

  • Regarding the preset system bug, I tried deleting and reinstalling the app. This fixed things for a while but then the same problem returned.

@reasOne sure you can change the base sound! Maybe have a read of the manual, or watch some YT.

  • For anyone who enjoys physical modeling synthesis, this is a must-have. I never expected Baby Audio to boldly innovate in this direction. 🤩 Atoms is a truly unique synth and perfect for exploration.

Here are the Atoms infographics I created for myself and for those who don’t like to read manuals. ;)

  • Liking this so far but the ui is a bit tiny as au

  • So is this totally different from Klevgrand Tomofon?

Def need to lol, i haven’t had time to dig in but i messed around with all the settings on the main page.

I made a Test Drive Demo with 4 Atoms instances:

1 driven by Harmonicc Bass output
1 driven by Harmonicc Chord output
    2 Lead instances

I put an instance of the new “Frostbite 2” reverb set to “Echo Verb”.

Harmonicc is the new @cem_olcay chord sequence generator.

I think what distinguishes this synth is the “micro detuning” that mimics whale song. In a polyphonic context it has a disturbing, emotive quality.

This is a really wonderful, moving piece of music

It’s just Harmonicc driving 2 Atoms instances and careful selection of a bass and chord preset respectively. That pitch detuning feature and physical morphing of the long notes is pretty unique for an out of the box test drive. I looked at the controls to see where the pitch variation is controlled and didn’t find it. I’ll bet Doug or Gavinski can explain where the pitch modulation is dialed in.

Unlikely? No, just takes some time to get right with the resources we have available, as mentioned by the developer of Atoms himself.

    Very helpful. Thanks.

Just tried it out. It uses almost 50 % CPU as a single instance hosted in AUM on my iPad Air 4… so not worth to me. The interface is not very easy to handle. It seems to be a straight port and has tiny touch areas. Even when scaled to almost full screen, I had many false touches. Still crazy and fun sounds!

This isn't entirely inaccurate. Although we do our best to polish things for a touch-friendly experience at the end of the day we are making ports of desktop products :) I think it's helpful to manage expectations when it comes to these. We never claim to build any of our plugins natively for iOS. That's something we simply don't have the resources for at the moment. But there was a time when iOS in general wasn't possible for us. Things change over time!

Right on. It’s understandable. And like I said definitely worth it as is.

    The sounds are incredible.

Hi Tristan, I'm just curious—what’s stopping you guys from building slightly modified UI layouts for mobile? We often see iOS developers create different layouts for iPhone and iPad. Couldn’t you have two sets of layouts with slightly adjusted sizes?

  • This is Amazing

  • Really wonderful app. Love it for making sounds that add extra dimension to my analog synth.

I do find some of the buttons a little awkward at times, but the sound is worth it.

I'm getting about 40% processor task when using two instances of Atoms., one instance of Marianna and one instance of Rings FX in AUM with some fx too! That's not too bad for a M1 Air.

I suppose it's always going to be an issue for older iPads when running more modern apps that need a little grunt to run.

Definitely going to be in regular use on my iPad along with the new Waldorf synth!

You could use a lot LOT more 'heavy' AUv3s if AUM had proper multi-core support which I sincerly hope isn't too far away...

    Yeah one day hopefully :)

Because at the moment it's just not possible for us to put that kind of work into iOS when it's a fraction of a fraction of our total income. Every development team has different priorities and capabilities, and right now we're doing the best with what we've got, which admittedly for iOS isn't much. But again, there was a time when being on the iOS App Store at all wasn't a thing for us. Now we have a few ports, each one generally gets better and is improved upon over time with updates. Like we have planned for Transit on iOS. We do have ideas for iOS-focused products. Not ports but entirely new apps (not on desktop) that would definitely be more native to the iOS environment. I've been at BA for almost 5 years at this point, almost since the beginning (remember we're a young company) and I can attest that a lot of positive change and growth has happened since then. We recently met as a team for the first time ever, and of course we talked future plans. iOS is a part of our future plans. We just gotta take things at our pace -- which we understand can be slower than some people would like. But we aren't going anywhere. Progress will continue to be made, and we will get to where we need to be. Hope to see you there!

  • We've documented the preset-not-changing issue and will be looking into fixes for an update.
Thanks to those who pointed it out!

  • Great to see this land on IPad. Is it comparable to RingsFX (one of my fave iPad synths at present)?

I hear you Tristan and I appreciate the explanation although you might NOT wanna add this disclaimer on the store pages for your iOS products.. 😱😱

I can only say that BA's choice is somewhat a gamble because I for one will not buy your iOS products again* since they don't get the love they deserve, or service I as a paying customer expect. It's kind of a strange admission to do: the "you're hardly worth it" attitude is not sitting well with me (but, I'm an odd one so what can I say)

*You will get my undivided support when you say that we (your iOS clients) are equally supported instead of "fraction of a fraction" bull no one wants to hear. Cheers//

  • Not worth my money with zero effort put into the port. Your fractions will get smaller if you try to move into markets without caring about them.

You are really good with these, fast and easy to follow, and also, always complemented with a nice set of colours.

You’re certainly not alone; I’m sure many of us here feel the same way. Atoms is currently in the top 10 on the paid chart, so that level of sales has to mean something. There are a lot of developers with fewer sales than what Atoms is getting, yet they still manage to optimize their UI for iOS.

  • @tristan, I get it, that honesty is welcome.
