Koala Project Quokka - released!!

From facebook

"Marek Bereza
Group expert

I’m going to be on the koala beatcast on Friday at 11pm UK time to present Project QUOKKA, which will hopefully also be released at the same time (it’s a new, quite good, feature for koala). It also represents a new direction koala could go in if popular. (Ps: quokka will be free for people with Samurai). Pls drop in if you’re at a loose end. "

Oooooo!! Color me excited! I'll try and catch the stream! (6pm est for anyone that needs it)

Amazing! Thanks for the heads up! Always excited for new Koala goodness! (It was my first dip into mobile production, and still a current mainstay)

  • I wonder what a new direction might mean... Could it mean a synth engine? Auv3 support? Maybe something totally unthought of! I noticed that every time he's mentioned it Marek has said "quite" interesting... So either he's being very modest or it's relatively minor? I'm just glad he's still working on it!

  • Granular engine? Playback of samples in various directions?

Granular or flexi sampler would be a dream for me!!

  • I really have low hopes that koala will ever support auv3 but that’s my most wanted feature!

Allowing you to set a bar/loop length with overdub for sampling in or resample would also be my most wanted feature. Similar to how the 404mk2 works.

But I’m guessing this update will be something more along the lines of an update to how we manipulate samples like granular or something, or maybe even audio tracks to the sequencer.

Idk but what ever it is, it’ll be awesome I’m sure. Koala never disappoints!

Granular with a timestretch function like Time Machine in Kontakt would be insanely useful. Is there an app with this function on iOS?

  • excited for a surprise xmas gift from the koala :)

will leave cookies out for Marek

  • I would be down for the livestream if it was on Youtube!

    Koala is ace!

    Excellent!

I thought it was interesting on the "MIDI-out" video that Marek had added it to a "More" folder, with only one item, rather than a "MIDI-out" folder - space for something else!

Anything more on the MIDI-out or SP-404 compatibility would be great.

  • I'm guessing It's gonna be a synth, and you add it to pads the same way you add midi out. Synth's probably called Quokka...

  • My guess is some kind of collaboration or live jamming capability.

    That sounds like a possibility!

  • Did any of you guys use Endlesss the online collaboration DAW thing? If Koala goes down this route I think would be amazing.

  • The 'answer' is already here but please do keep the guesses and hype-train rolling in :sunglasses:

  • It could be a collaboration thing but that sounds expensive to maintain and large burden.

I’m not really interested in that aspect tho personally i prefer to work alone 🤣 with the occasional stem swap

  • Damn I’m smart.. The quokka is a small mammal, a herbivore and it’s NOCTURNAL…

    It’s a black theme ..

    Everything black..

Apart from a few pads, that will be a very dark grey colour..

    Thank me later..

  • If it's some sort of online collaboration thing, that'd be quite monumental.

  • Ooops I made a separate thread here covering the same thing, apologies @sevenape ! I swear I searched - must've typed it in wrong.

Have you messed with Dawnbeat at all? I know it has this feature on there.

Ever since you mentioned this a couple weeks back it's all I want now too lolol.

This sounds intriguing none the less.

Yah man! Dawnbeat is pretty awesome. I still grab koala most of the time tho cuz.. its koala. But dawnbeat is very close to being right up there with it! Especially with its ability to load auv3 instruments and effects… this is so much easier than using multi out in AUM with koala. Too much set up for me. If koala gets auv3 I’ll tip that dude 30$ day one.

And the loop endpoints I’ll tip em another 20 haha!

Alright! Now we have something to work with… 😂

  • What’s the answer?

  • It’s a synth feature as some mentioned. The clue is in the picture. Cats also make sounds.

HOLY SHIT KOALA IS WINNING METAL YOUTUBER OF THE YEAR AT THE NIK NOCTURNAL AWARDS?!

I bet it’s a synth too now that I’m thinking about it. Didn’t koala have some sub domains with synths up for a while?

Just a thought, you only have to set it up one time then save it as a template in AUM.
